Guestbook comments from the manager

Our first hike started right down the street and connected to Otter Creek Trail, then on to Ocean Path. We hiked Great Head, Jordan's Pond and Beech Mountain, we swam at

Echo Lake and spent time at Sand Beach. Tide-pooled at Bar Island, we actually did not make it all the way across the bar there was so much to discover! Ranger led programs are a must !!

We loved having this home to come back to everyday!

Great cottage and great stay

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was clean, well appointed, comfortable, and satisfied all our needs. Peggy, could not have been more friendly and helpful. We followed many of her suggestions for good experiences and were very pleased with all of them. Even though the weather was cool, the airconditioning was apppreciated.

Great place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We had a awesome vacation on MDI and the Parsons House was a great place to stay. We where close to all the great trails, close enough to Bar Harbor but far enough away to escape the crowds. The little store at the end of the street makes an awesome lobster dinner. And the weather was spectacular. I would highly recommend the Parson House for you MDI vacation.

Clean with a great location

  • 5 of 5

This home was so clean I sent the owner a message letting her know how great of a job the cleaners did. Floors, furniture, dishes felt clean and were clean. Kitchen had everything we needed. Sleeping accommodations worked out perfect for our family of 5. There are A/C units and fans in the house to keep cool if its even needed. The weather in June was cool enough that we only used the A/C to cool the home down quicker if we had been gone several hours with the windows closed. I also loved being able to keep our laundry clean during our stay.

The location is great. This is our second time visiting Acadia. Our first trip was in the off season and we stayed in Bar Harbor. This time we chose to Parson Cottage outside of Bar Harbor because we prefer being away from large crowds and congested areas. While we found ourselves in the congested Bar Harbor area at least once a day we were very glad we chose NOT to stay in Bar Harbor during peak season.

There are trails at the end of the street from the cottage. It was nice to be able to start hiking from the cottage instead of having to drive and find parking during busier times of the day on Park Loop road.

The otter creek Market is a 2 minute walk from the cottage. We had spent 12 hrs traveling and were too tired to get in the car again to get food. The lobster roll was really good.

Overall, our stay at the Parson's Cottage helped make our entire vacation amazing.

Great stay at Parson House!

  • 5 of 5

Parson house is very well maintained and had everything we needed for a wonderful stay with our two children! The location is perfect, very easy to walk to Acadia National park (we did the Cadillac Mountain South trail, you can pick up the trail head after a 5 min walk). The kitchen was very well equipped, towels very soft, and the house was spacious. Peggy was a great host and communication was excellent. We would definitely stay again next time we come to Acadia!

Outstanding home away from home

  • 5 of 5

We have been visiting Acadia every fall for years now, but this was our first stay at Parson House. It quickly became our all-time favorite accommodation on the Island! Not only is the proximity to the Park perfect, but all the little touches in the cottage -- from tourist maps/information to a thermos for hot-drinks to-go to a truly fully equipped kitchen -- made the stay both effortless and fun. Peggy has thought through everything, so all you have to do is show up and enjoy your vacation! Plus she must be one of the nicest people you'll ever meet, and she's super responsive to any question you have, big or small.

We stayed for a week and a half and could easily have stayed much longer. This is truly a home away from home, one we can't wait to come back to next year and beyond!

Traveling tip: As others have mentioned, this cottage has excellent walking proximity to Gorham Mtn. We also loved its easy access to Day Mtn, just a quick drive down Rt 3. Don't forget to walk the Lower Day Mtn trail as well to Hunters' Beach Cove, a very special place.

Parson House was a great find. Clean and comfortable.

  • 5 of 5

The house was clean and provided everything we needed. The corner convenience store/mini restaurant was only a short walk. The breakfast sandwiches and muffins were great and so was the coffee. Just mention that you are staying at the Parson House and you will receive a special discount. The location of the Parson House was very convenient for exploring the many trails in Acadia National Park. Bar Harbor was a very easy 4 mile drive and offered many choices for dining and shopping. We would definitely stay at the Parson House if we return.
