wonderful cottage well situated in a quiet neighborhood with easy access by car or foot to Acadia.

  • 5 of 5

We spent 2 weeks at Summerwood and will definately be back. Situated with easy access to connector trails to Otter Cove and several hikes/walks in Acadia Natl Park as well as quick drive to the park. In a quiet area but convenient to the activities/restaurants in Bar Harbor as well as Seal Harbor, NE Harbor etc. Very centrally located and away from the crowds. We particularly loved spending mornings and late day on the covered porch and/or back deck. The cottage is as represented in photos. Great accomodations for a 2 week stay, equipped kitchen as well as grill on deck for when you want to enjoy meals at home. Peggy was a wonderful host and very accomodating and responsive to our questions/needs. Would highly recommend!

Just as we hoped!

  • 5 of 5

Great location, comfortable accommodations, and an overall positive experience making it our home for a week. We enjoyed being off the beaten path after fun days exploring all around MDI, and then being able to cook seafood dinners from Parson’s and sit on the quiet porch with a cocktail in hand. Hope to stay again in the future. Thanks!

Great location

  • 4 of 5

Lovely cottage, the location and the porch/deck make the place. You can hike out at the end of the street, and there is a market, too. You are on a quiet residential street, fyi. Note the main bed is high, and you have to go outside to the basement entrance to do laundry. The laundry and bathroom were immaculate. My only quibble is the pull out sofa. It has a piece of plywood in it to keep it from sagging when you sit on it. The pull out mattress is in terrible shape. I was really glad I brought at least 1 air mattress, but I wish I had 2 for my 2 teenagers. For this reason, I say the cottage sleeps 2, unless you bring air mattresses. Highly recommended still though!

Perfect location! The cottage was adorable and had everything we needed as Peggy describes. Decor was apropos and furnishings made us feel all the comforts of home. Hiking and biking to some of Acadia’s best was right from our doorstep. The 2 outdoor decks (with grille, back of cottage and a covered deck with porch swing) provided us with means to top off a terrific day in the Park with food and friends or just relax with a good glass of wine :)

Definitely would recommend to anyone who wants to be at Acadia and near Bar Harbor but separate from the tourist bustle.

We will return...thanks so much for contributing to our vacation!

We love summerwood Cottage! Return renters of this adorable and tasteful cottage in a prime location

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic week on MDI staying at Summerwood Cottage. We have stayed at Summerwood in the past and always love having the chance to return, this time with our 9 month old son! Although the early June weather in Maine can be finicky, we thankfully had a majority of beautiful days and enjoyed hikes, beautiful scenery, a bike ride on the Schoodic side of Acadia, popovers at the Jordan Pond House, and plenty of beautiful seafood. We also enjoyed relaxing and slowing down in the cottage on the few rainy days we had during our week. Based on a brochure Peggy provided in the cottage we tried Thurston's lobster pound on our final night on MDI and WOW, we loved it and found an immediate new family tradition for the future. We also discovered new hiking options that we previously weren't aware of, including the Gorham mountain hike that you can do directly from the cottage without having to get in the car. The cottage was clean and tasteful as always and the porch light was on with fresh Lupine's in a vase on the beautiful deck to greet our arrival. I was also happy to see the TV and Wifi had been upgraded since our last visit which made the inevitable moments when you need to stay connected with work easier to accomplish. We are already looking forward to our next stay at Summerwood Cottage!!!

Cozy home in a great location.

  • 5 of 5

My fiance, myself and our dogs had a wonderful stay in Summerwood Cottage. The cottage was the perfect size for our little family and the basement provided the storage space we needed for our bikes and the dog crates. We came to Mount Desert Island to run in the MDI Marathon which was a wonderful experience. After completing the marathon on Sunday we had hikes and bike rides planned for the rest of the week. We were able to start many hikes by simply walking out the door and down the street. It was really nice to not have to drive to every trail head. A word of caution for anyone planning to visit MDI in October like we did, the island is beautiful, but many things are closed for the season (restaurants, shops, bus service). This was not a big deal for us as we prepared many meals at home and found plenty of places still open in Bar Harbor when we wanted to go our for a meal. All in all you cannot beat the location of Summerwood Cottage. It is close enough to Bar Harbor to drive to town whenever you may need to but far enough away to avoid the crowds and traffic. We hope to return to MDI soon and plan to rent Summerwood Cottage when we do.
