Overview

About the property

House, 2 master suites and an extra room if you need more. 3.5 Baths, 6 Sleeps

Location! Locatio! Location! Why do people love San Miguel? Aside from the warm and wonderful Mexicans and the near perfect year round weather, residents and guests like to walk everywhere. A car is not necessary. This newly renovated lovely home is within a 5 minute walk to the jardin-the town square. You will want to walk there 3 or 4 times a day. Renters beware: Before committing to a rental find out how many minutes the home is

from the jardin and whether the home is on a steep hill.

Casa Central is a short walk from the most popular restaurants,

galleries, Spanish schools, the theatre, plazas, lecture halls, the

library, etc.

The exterior of the house is over 300 years old and one would never

know what is behind the door. You enter into a wide, plant-filled

entrance-way that enters into an outside patio area with comfortable

seating. To the right is the incredibly spacious master bedroom.

White marble floors, a king bed, large white marble bathroom with

two sinks and tons of closet space. The view from the bed is of two

window walls, inspired by Gaudi, that look onto the garden. Almost

completely surrounded by windows, this room flows outside to a large

patio that is surrounded by a cactus-filled garden that has two ponds.

If one walks through the garden to the back of the property, one

finds the second two bedrooms. One is very large with a king bed

that can be separated into two twins. Gorgeous bathroom made with

white tiles as well as a shower made from small, smooth black stones

imported from the beaches of Mexico. The other bedroom at the back

of the property can be set up with a single bed or it can be used by

renters for whatever purpose they wish. This third bedroom has a

beautiful green Mexican-tiled bath.

Above these 2 bedrooms is a roof patio acessable from the garden.

Now, going back to the main part of the house, one walks up a

beautiful, cantara-clad stairway to the living area. The living room

has a fireplace and lovely new contemporary furniture. The dining

area is next to the kitchen to allow for easy living and comfort

when you have guests.

The kitchen has incredibly beautiful granite counters and all new

stainless steel appliances. Microwave. Fine pottery dishes. Gas

stove. An eating patio is off of the kitchen facing the garden below.

Also on this level is a cozy little den with a fireplace, books,

sofas, a tv.

A stairway leads to the roof terrace where there is a 360 degree

vista of San Miguel, including the lovely main church. San Miguel is

famous for its sunsets.

The main level has a washer and dryer.

The entire house has purified water.

Summer time in San Miguel is fabulous! The weather is generally in the

70's with a little rain shower at 4 or 5 in the afternoon. This is why

San Miguel is so popular with tourists in the summer. Also during this

time the countryside is filled with all kinds of wild flowers. And winter is also perfect. That is why our high season is January, February and March.

About david cross

My husband and I visited San Miguel de Allende for ten days, went back to our home on the U.S. east coast, and couldn't get San Miguel out of our minds. We've now been here for 17 years. So we know the town well and can help you, should you desire, design your time here. We are serious about food...so we have a long, detailed list with our subjective opinions.

Our own home is a 10 minute walk from Casa Central, so we can be on hand to help in any way.

david cross purchased this house in 2007

Why david cross chose San Miguel de Allende

We love to design and build. So constructing this rental home was a fun project.

We always believe in location, location, location! San Miguel has many surrounding hills with lovely views. But the walk up these hills can be torturous. We want to live where the walk to all our activities is flat and close!

What makes this house unique

We feel in love with Gaudi when we visited Barcelona. So a few of the design features are based on Guadi's innovations.

Many, might I say most, of the homes in the center of San Miguel are dark. My husband and I find light to be essential. So we painstakingly designed the house to utilize as much light as possible.

GATE OPENED. MOUTH OPENED. GIANT "WOW" EXPLODED!

  • 5 of 5

I traveled to San Miguel with my husband and sister. We had been told about Casa Central by a friend who had stayed there. I expected a really lovely place. It was so much more than just lovely. In so many ways it was enchanted- so many visual delights that it was, to me, like a Fairy Land. You can see the architectural details on the web site. What you can't see is how it "plays" when it's all taken in at once. It is joyful to look around. Joyful to be there.

The reason? The owners. They are creative, warm, involved, and helpful. They "did" the property. You can feel them there.

We are going back next summer. Loved San Miguel and Casa Central! Food, weather, shopping, views, walking, people-- all wonderful.

Go there. Oh, and be sure to go up to the roof deck. It's an extra surprise. My favorite hide-away in the house. Great view up there. And from the roof you can see how you are right in the middle of town even tho' it is private and quiet.

I agree with the reviewer who say that it's not the best for kids or physically challenged guests because of stairs.

Comfortable, beautiful and unique

  • 5 of 5

We took the leap and signed up for three months at Casa Central, sight unseen. What luck to have picked Casa Central. The description on the website is accurate. No disappointments. The garden is truly amazing, with its babbling stream, enormous bamboo, and flowering bushes. The garden is central to life at Casa Central, with all the bedrooms, looking out on it through giant windows. The master bedroom is enormous, with a giant bed facing the gardens. The living room has comfortable seating around the fireplace--a great place to hang out, with more views through more floor to ceiling Gaudi-inspired windows. We feel we became friends with the housekeeper and gardener because of their open, kind personalities. The owners , who live in town, were eager to help us enjoy San Miguel, sending us regular emails of special events. The location was great. Best was that after a tiring day out, the short walk home was all downhill! What a pleasure to open the door and enter "our" cool, verdant oasis.

Unique Stay in San Miguel de Allende

  • 5 of 5

This is a perfect house to spend a San Miguel vacation in. It is a full of unique and architecturally delightful spaces and there has been much care in creating a modern space with the felling of a traditional San Miguel home. It is quite a surprise when you open the old authentic door from the street and are greeted with a flowering garden of delight. The bedrooms are all very very private each with unique bathrooms. There are so many different outdoor spaces it is hard to experience them all. The roof top patio has views around the whole city including the “cathedral” (and at night when it is all a glow- impressive)! The description of house by Caron on this website is very accurate and the amenities are bountiful…including its convenient location to the jardin and all the great shops and restaurants…a short walk away.

Caron and Dave are awesome hosts…and if you get a chance to talk them up about all San Miguel has to offer it will be time well spent. They are very open and helpful.

I Highly recommend this house if you want to experience San Miguel in the most unique way!

Thanks Caron and Dave for the stay. It was very much enjoyed by all of us!

Casa Central A+++

  • 5 of 5

Casa Central has that unique location; easy walk to the jardin, safe walk for single women. San Miguel has become more lively, especially on weekends. Being removed from nightclub noise, street crowd activity and loud church bells was divine. The house is extremely spacious, beautifully furnished, well equipped with many places to be outdoors (ground floor patio, upper level patio, roof). I stayed at Casa Central for a full month and had a series of house guests.

HIGH POINTS:

The ground floor master suite is downright glamorous.

The kitchen is large and laid out so that many people can work at the same time.

Bedrooms are very private from one another.

A+ location

Lounging and cocktails on the roof - spectacular

But the best thing about Casa Central is the Owners. They live full-time in San Miguel, have deep knowledge of the City and are very attentive and responsive.

Captivated by the Magic of San Miguel

  • 5 of 5

Casa Central was a very special home away from home and we were quickly enamoured with San Miguel. Loved the location within easy walking distance to restaurants, a grocery, the Warren Hardy Language School, concerts, the central library with its many programs, and our favourite breakfast cafes. The cobbles of San Miguel take some getting used to and living on a flat road makes a huge difference. Felt welcomed by our neighbours and loved to stop in to Las Conservas two doors away for the best paella and a friendly chat with Maria and her son, the Spanish chef Jorge.

The house has a huge comfortable light-filled master on the main floor with a superior bathroom and an immense amount of closet space. We didn't use the two bedrooms on the opposite side of the lovely garden but valued the fact that guests would have very private space and separate bathrooms.

The living and dining areas on the second floor are bright and comfortable with good lighting and a gas fireplace to take the chill off on cool evenings. The gas stove, refrigerator and marble countertops with all the necessary pots and Mexican dishes made meal preparation easy. And it was a delight to have unobtrusive housekeeping twice weekly.

The "Gaudi" design is complemented by tasteful art and furnishings. We made minimal use of the top floor patio but the views are stunning.

The stairs and balconies make Casa Central unsuitable for those physically challenged and for children.

Highly recommended. Go and be captivated by the magic of San Miguel.
