Location! Locatio! Location! Why do people love San Miguel? Aside from the warm and wonderful Mexicans and the near perfect year round weather, residents and guests like to walk everywhere. A car is not necessary. This newly renovated lovely home is within a 5 minute walk to the jardin-the town square. You will want to walk there 3 or 4 times a day. Renters beware: Before committing to a rental find out how many minutes the home is

from the jardin and whether the home is on a steep hill.

Casa Central is a short walk from the most popular restaurants,

galleries, Spanish schools, the theatre, plazas, lecture halls, the

library, etc.

The exterior of the house is over 300 years old and one would never

know what is behind the door. You enter into a wide, plant-filled

entrance-way that enters into an outside patio area with comfortable

seating. To the right is the incredibly spacious master bedroom.

White marble floors, a king bed, large white marble bathroom with

two sinks and tons of closet space. The view from the bed is of two

window walls, inspired by Gaudi, that look onto the garden. Almost

completely surrounded by windows, this room flows outside to a large

patio that is surrounded by a cactus-filled garden that has two ponds.

If one walks through the garden to the back of the property, one

finds the second two bedrooms. One is very large with a king bed

that can be separated into two twins. Gorgeous bathroom made with

white tiles as well as a shower made from small, smooth black stones

imported from the beaches of Mexico. The other bedroom at the back

of the property can be set up with a single bed or it can be used by

renters for whatever purpose they wish. This third bedroom has a

beautiful green Mexican-tiled bath.

Above these 2 bedrooms is a roof patio acessable from the garden.

Now, going back to the main part of the house, one walks up a

beautiful, cantara-clad stairway to the living area. The living room

has a fireplace and lovely new contemporary furniture. The dining

area is next to the kitchen to allow for easy living and comfort

when you have guests.

The kitchen has incredibly beautiful granite counters and all new

stainless steel appliances. Microwave. Fine pottery dishes. Gas

stove. An eating patio is off of the kitchen facing the garden below.

Also on this level is a cozy little den with a fireplace, books,

sofas, a tv.

A stairway leads to the roof terrace where there is a 360 degree

vista of San Miguel, including the lovely main church. San Miguel is

famous for its sunsets.

The main level has a washer and dryer.

The entire house has purified water.

Summer time in San Miguel is fabulous! The weather is generally in the

70's with a little rain shower at 4 or 5 in the afternoon. This is why

San Miguel is so popular with tourists in the summer. Also during this

time the countryside is filled with all kinds of wild flowers. And winter is also perfect. That is why our high season is January, February and March.

About david cross

My husband and I visited San Miguel de Allende for ten days, went back to our home on the U.S. east coast, and couldn't get San Miguel out of our minds. We've now been here for 17 years. So we know the town well and can help you, should you desire, design your time here. We are serious about we have a long, detailed list with our subjective opinions.

Our own home is a 10 minute walk from Casa Central, so we can be on hand to help in any way.

david cross purchased this house in 2007

Why david cross chose Zona Centro

We love to design and build. So constructing this rental home was a fun project.

We always believe in location, location, location! San Miguel has many surrounding hills with lovely views. But the walk up these hills can be torturous. We want to live where the walk to all our activities is flat and close!

What makes this house unique

We feel in love with Gaudi when we visited Barcelona. So a few of the design features are based on Guadi's innovations.

Many, might I say most, of the homes in the center of San Miguel are dark. My husband and I find light to be essential. So we painstakingly designed the house to utilize as much light as possible.

We had a great time and so enjoyed this lovely home. The caretaker, Ramon, was so helpful and the location is great for shopping, dining and taking in the historical center of the city.

Beautiful spacious property in a prime location.

  • 5 of 5

This house is more of a compound than a house, with hummingbirds and a babbling brook in the garden and largely separate quarters. It was very comfortable for three sets of couples when we stayed there in March. Given how close it is to the busy jardin, it's quite quiet -- an urban oasis. The main noise is from a couple of roosters living at an adjacent home. The owner David is very accommodating -- so much so that when he heard my husband is a musician he had a keyboard brought into the living room for him to use during his one-month stay. The Gaudi-style windows are unique for San Miguel. The kitchen is well equipped. The bathrooms are great, especially is the master suite. The housekeeper and the property manager were efficient and accommodating. I'd definitely stay here again.

A magical house in a beautiful city!

  • 5 of 5

Obviously other reviewers loved this house also and the photos are very accurate. David was easy and pleasant to deal with. He had good directions on both the house and the surrounding area. The restaurants he suggested were spot on, especially the rooftop bar above Pueblo Viejo (can’t remember the name) the shrimp/ jicama tacos! We also enjoyed the Italian food at Vivoli.

As to the house, many mornings there were hot air balloons quite close to the house, usually 3 about 7 am. We used and enjoyed all of the bedrooms when our guests were here. The housekeeper Marianna was unobtrusive and friendly. Rarely saw the groundskeepers. Overall this was a very good house and lovely city.

great house

  • 4 of 5

The house is in a perfect central location. The grounds are beautiful, with a big kitchen (not that you need it much for all the great, inexpensive restaurants), efficient fireplace, comfy couches, large, bright master bedroom. The second bedroom is considerably smaller and darker than the master but has its own full bathroom and is very separate from the main house for privacy. The third bedroom is smaller but also has a private bath. David, the owner, and his groundskeeper/maintenance person Ramon are very responsive. A few things needed a refresh and they responded to requests within a day. David shared that he plans to do a larger refresh in the near future. The water in the whole house is purified, which a big deal to us. Marianna the housekeeper comes twice a week. David helped us with transport arrangements from the airport and dinner reservations for a special occasion. There is a book filled with recommendations, including the amazing massage therapist Sylvia, who comes to the house for 500 pesos. We had her twice!

We hope to return someday to charming San Miguel de Allende. It is a wonderful city!

I traveled to San Miguel with my husband and sister. We had been told about Casa Central by a friend who had stayed there. I expected a really lovely place. It was so much more than just lovely. In so many ways it was enchanted- so many visual delights that it was, to me, like a Fairy Land. You can see the architectural details on the web site. What you can't see is how it "plays" when it's all taken in at once. It is joyful to look around. Joyful to be there.

The reason? The owners. They are creative, warm, involved, and helpful. They "did" the property. You can feel them there.

We are going back next summer. Loved San Miguel and Casa Central! Food, weather, shopping, views, walking, people-- all wonderful.

Go there. Oh, and be sure to go up to the roof deck. It's an extra surprise. My favorite hide-away in the house. Great view up there. And from the roof you can see how you are right in the middle of town even tho' it is private and quiet.

I agree with the reviewer who say that it's not the best for kids or physically challenged guests because of stairs.

Comfortable, beautiful and unique

  • 5 of 5

We took the leap and signed up for three months at Casa Central, sight unseen. What luck to have picked Casa Central. The description on the website is accurate. No disappointments. The garden is truly amazing, with its babbling stream, enormous bamboo, and flowering bushes. The garden is central to life at Casa Central, with all the bedrooms, looking out on it through giant windows. The master bedroom is enormous, with a giant bed facing the gardens. The living room has comfortable seating around the fireplace--a great place to hang out, with more views through more floor to ceiling Gaudi-inspired windows. We feel we became friends with the housekeeper and gardener because of their open, kind personalities. The owners , who live in town, were eager to help us enjoy San Miguel, sending us regular emails of special events. The location was great. Best was that after a tiring day out, the short walk home was all downhill! What a pleasure to open the door and enter "our" cool, verdant oasis.
