Best Getaway at an Incredible Value

  • 5 of 5

First, the kids (4) had one of the best times of their lives. I could not get them to come in to eat, they want to be outside so much. Most nights they slept on the large screened in porch.

Second, the adults (3) ran like we where kids again. Went fishing in the BACKYARD!!!. Tubing for everyone....

Needless to say but I will, a spectacular time was had by all.

Logistics: this is just about at the center of everything we wanted to do. It is close enough to town to get supplies yet far enough away so we don't even know there is a town close by. Tubing was just about 1 mile away, which by the way the start point is in the Great Smokey Mountains National Park... the ending point the BACKYARD!

You will more than likely experience the same one issue we had. This vacation was too short for such an amazing place.

PERFECT LOCATION FOR A WESTERN NC VACATION

  • 5 of 5

Chestnut Lodge was part of a near-perfect vacation. Our favorite parts of the property were the screened-in back porch, the fenced-in backyard area where the small children could play safely, and the deck overlooking Deep Creek. There were 8 of us and the house was very comfortable, and large enough that no one ever felt crowded. We ate outside on the deck every evening, enjoying the cool breeze from the creek. In addition to playing and tubing in the cold creek, we made trips to Bryson City for shopping (Buttermilk Farms = awesome shop), went whitewater rafting on the Nantahala River, took the children to a nearby gem mine, took the scenic train ride through Nantahala Gorge, went to the shops and museum in Cherokee, enjoyed a couple of local restaurants, and went up the Road to Nowhere. The house is in a great location, with a short drive and easy access to everything we wanted to do. The owners were responsive and always helpful. We will be back!

Owner's Response: Can't say enough about sitting on the deck and enjoying the creek. Plus so much to do between Cherokee and the Nantahala Gorge.

Chestnut Lodge on Deep Creek is perfect!

  • 5 of 5

This spacious, well equipped home in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains is perfect for a family vacation. The yard is huge with many beautiful trees, the back deck overlooking Deep Creek made it the ideal place to cool off, enjoy dinners outdoors, thrill to the firefly show each night. Our grandchildren took their tubes to the tube put-in at Deep Creek in the GSMNP & tubed all the way back to our comfy lodge, caught fish & spent many hours playing yard games. White water rafting in the Nantahala Gorge was 9 miles away. The house was spacious & everyone had their own quiet place & sleeping to the sounds of the creek was just incredible. The kitchen is extremely well equipped & the house itself is clean, comfy & just the place to relax. It's only a mile to the Great Smoky Mountain National Park so riding bikes or even walking was easy and downtown Bryson City was 4 minutes away. It had everything we needed & more, comfort, convenience, fantastic outdoor space & the price was reasonable. We will definitely return. Thanks to your family for allowing us to share in your piece of Heaven. Pat & Philip Chamburs & Family

Owner's Response: There are many things to do in the area. Advantage of Chestnut Lodge is the close proximity to everything and being on Deep Creek you do not have to worry about driving up and down a steep road or driveway.

Great week and a great location

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at Chestnut. We have been to Bryson many times and this was the best stay yet!

-The house is very close to town and activities. I checked the map before coming and thought it might be walk-able, but didn't account for the winding roads and hills. Certainly a very easy drive and parking in town was never a problem. Going out the other way you are in the GSMNP within a couple of minutes. We visited that park three different times that week. Twice to put our tubes in and float home, and once we fired up the grill in the park and enjoyed a late lunch there as the park started to empty out from the early comers. (Tubing worked because we had two cars. We drove everyone up with tubes, then both cars went back to the house to drop a car off, then both drivers headed back to the park to leave a car. Tubed home and had the second car waiting there to drive back and get the other car. Since it was so close it was really just a matter of maybe 10 minutes.)

-It was overall very centrally located to Sylva in one direction and then the Fontana Dam and NOC in the other direction on a different day. Part of our group visited Cherokee just about 12 miles away.

-We spent a lot of time in the backyard so close to the creek. The screened porch was great and you could hear the creek from the house. The deck was great for morning coffee and dinner in the evenings. We put our tubes in the creek a few times and just 'sat' which is something you can't always do on vacation.

-The house had plenty of room for everyone in our group of 8. No issues with any of the facilities at all. Wifi would have been nice since our AT&T service was marginal. We were able to get a decent connection out on the back porch/deck to send emails and things back home. Town wasn't very far away with a lot of wifi connections and better reception for posting pictures and things.

-Full kitchen and plenty of equipment made eating in a breeze. We did breakfast in each morning and most of our dinners too. 3 grocery stores in town made stocking up very easy. The house had a griddle for bacon and pancakes all the way to a roasting pan to do a full ham dinner with all the fixin's for a dinner. We took those leftovers out on the boat we rented on Fontana Lake :)!

-Dave and Kathy were great owners to work with. Everything from the prebooking inquiry to some communication during the stay was responded to very quickly. A great couple with a great house!

Owner's Response: It is always great to spend time by the creek, using the BBQ pit, sitting on the deck or screen porch. Having a camp fire in the fire pit at night to roast marshmallows and listen to the creek.

Great weekend in Bryson city

  • 5 of 5

It felt like visiting family. We were comfortable and had e wry thing we needed. The kids loved the creek out back and playing cards on the back porch. We enjoyed a nice lunch on the picnic table also. We had a great Easter weekend that included the Peanuts train ride. We will definitely stay here again on our next trip to Bryson city.

Owner's Response: The Smoky Mtn Train ride is a great family adventure. We are planning to build a pavilion near the fire pit for more enjoyment of the creek.

Fantastic vacation spot

  • 5 of 5

Great house with tons of space. The only negative comments I can give are there is no dishwasher and no WiFi. If it had those it would be about as close to perfect as you can get. Dave and Kathy were wonderful to deal with and responded to questions almost immediately. I hope to have another vacation there soon.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the great review. We have worked on the kitchen, but would have to take out a cabinet to install a dishwasher. Hope to add Wi-Fi when local cable co gets their act together.
