About Rick and Debbie Pattyn

Debbie and myself where both born in Nelson and have enjoyed everything that the West Kootenay area has to offer. We have raised 3 beautiful daughters here and cannot think of a better place for them where they can experience the outdoor lifestyle. We have had a great time renting our our Cabin to others, making new friends in some cases or offering privacy for others. We have also utilized the cabin for our family, finding the rent/use balance working out well.

Would love to share this laid back lifestyle with you.

Rick and Debbie Pattyn

Rick and Debbie Pattyn purchased this cabin in 1996

Why Rick and Debbie Pattyn chose British Columbia Mountains

We purchased this property to be able to offer guests an opportunity to experience the West Kootenay life style. We also wanted a place where our family can come together in a beautiful area and have a great time. We plan on saving this piece of heritage and passing it down to our daughters for their continued enjoyment.

What makes this cabin unique

We originally fell in love with the cabin location being right on the beach on pristine Kootenay Lake

The exposure is fantastic, located 1 km away from Kokanee Provincial Park and Store also makes it a fantastic spot. New exciting Zip Lines are now available in 2015, 10 minutes from the Cabin.

Come have some fun!!

A rustic beach haven of coziness!

  • 5 of 5

Two mamas and 5 kids, 5yrs and under for a week! This cabin is perfectly located, well maintained and full of character. We had plenty of space and the open air concept kept the cabin delightfully cool on the hottest of days. The water was warm and the sand was lovely.

We also utilized the provincial park 1km down the road for little walks, yoga classes, and the playground. Very handy! The Appy Cafe is one minute walk from the cabin, delicious food and coffees, Gifts, jewellery and friendly staff.

The owner, Rick, is super helpful and easy to communicate with. Ask him about the history of the cabin! It's fascinating! We'll definitely be back!

Owner's Response: Hi girls I am so happy to hear you all had such a great holiday:) I am very impressed ( as well as our neighbours ) with the way in which your little tribe was kept busy with activities, both on and off beach. Thanks for leaving the cabin in such great shape when you left, our housekeeper could not believe that you had 5 kids there. Was much appreciate!! Would love to have you back anytime. Take care. Rick

Beautiful rustic cabin with great yard and beach

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I plus our two children (8 & 9 years old) had a fantastic week long stay. While the cabin is rustic, it is very clean and well-stocked. The washroom area could use some updates, but it was functional. The beds were very comfortable. My husband loved the fireplace inside and the firepit outdoors. We enjoyed sitting around the firepit nearly every night. The covered porch was perfect for getting to stay outside on those less than perfect beach days. We quite enjoyed watching the hummingbirds and all the flowers in the yard were very pretty. The kids loved the beach of course and made some new friends during our stay. We will definitely consider coming back again! Thanks! Erin & John B.

Owner's Response: Hi Erin and John. Thanks so much for the great review:) I am glad that your family had a pleasant time at the cabin. Sorry that the week was less than favourable, would love to have you return in the future when hopefully the sun may co-operate a little better. Take care. Rick

A beautiful, rustic cabin to relax, and have family fun. Being dog friendly was a bonus.

  • 4 of 5

This 100+ year historic cabin gave lots of practical space for our family to be together for meals, fun and our favorite: Weiner roasts and smores on the patio fire pit.

The humming birds were entertainment all day long.

Truly a beach front property, but conveniently close to Nelson. The secure marina in front of the cabin was well used for boating, floating and lots of water sports.

This cabin has homey conveniences with everything Mother Nature has to offer, right off the front veranda.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for your great review. Glad you had an enjoyable holiday. Yes, I agree and it is in the works this fall for a couple upgrades, bathroom included. Not too much as to lose the character though:) Thanks again. Take care. Rick

Absolutely Breathtaking

  • 5 of 5

We arrived to the most beautiful place ever. Cabin was spotless clean, complete with fresh flowers throughout. The beds were so comfortable and with the fireplace blazing at night sleeping was NOT a problem, we were so cozy. Mornings were beautiful sitting on the covered deck having coffee and watching the deer that walked across the sandy beach. Hiking trails were everywhere from beginners to advanced and the glacier mountains were amazing!!! A 20 min. trip to Ainsworth to enjoy the hot springs is a must for older bones to have a soak. Another day trip to Kaslo, Fletcher Falls and the Moyie paddle boat, something that truly needs to be on your bucket list. You didn't have to travel far to see the beautiful area of nelson just a short 15 min. drive from the cabin. We were so locally centered to everything. Peace and quite at night was wonderful while watching the sun set over the lake, and roasting marshmallows, soooo beautiful! Deb and Rick were more than accommodating making sure we had everything we needed and offering suggestions on places to see, absolutely wonderful people!!! If I had to say 1 bad thing about our stay.........1 week wasn't long enough, next year it will be 2 weeks. We have traveled to a few places, Mexico, Ireland, Scotland, Jamaica and this cabin. This log cabin, our hosts, and stunning views and beach is what is going to bring us back each year!!! Thanks you for an amazing stay at your beautiful place! Pam and Charlie Matthews, Sparwood B.C.

We had a great stay…again. Everything you need in a stress free vacation. Very clean, spacious and nicely situated with direct access to a sandy beach with a southwest exposure. Easy to get to and great access to various local hiking trails, parks, campgrounds and other beaches. The owner was very helpful in making our stay feel like a home away from home - thanks for taking good care of us Rick!
