We had a wonderful trip to North Captiva Island! It’s such a private gem of an island. Our family was very comfortable in this lovely house! It was very clean, well stocked, and private considering how close many of the houses are on the island. The proximity to the beach was very nice too, and in my opinion the best parts of the beaches on the entire island.
We did find it a little disappointing that there was no WiFi on site. We had just assumed there would be internet at this house, but that was not the case. When we tried to log on there were 6 different options but not for this house. One can access the internet at the public club, but we kept getting booted off every time we logged on.
Due to no internet my kids watched dvds but the VCR had a mind of its own, and would suddenly start playing. Great VCR though. Our golf cart too had no lights. We took it in and the golf cart person was a little set back at the amount of work it would take to fix. He said we’d need to leave it w him, but we only had one golf cart and 4 of us, so we made do w our headlamps and phone flashlights!
The caretaker Sherman was wonderful and very attentive and accommodating! We really appreciated his service and help in getting established and helping w anything we needed!
Most of our time was at the beach, because that’s what one does on an island vacation! And the little things don’t matter so much anymore!
The house was a perfect fit for our family of four. Well stocked, close to the beach, and the golf cart was great. Everything we needed was available from beach chairs to pots/pans. We would highly recommend if you are looking for a quiet, relaxing get away!
Perfect Family Vacation
Our family would come again in a heartbeat. I was nervous about coordinating the trip with the taxi, ferry and groceries but it went perfectly and the homeowner was very helpful with suggestions and accommodating our earlier than planned arrival.
Good value for the money. The home is very close to the ocean. There is not an ocean view although it looks as though if the trees were cut back there could be.
Very well stocked kitchen and baths.
Beautiful home on a beautiful Island.
Our family just stayed at Winterhaven for a week. It was great! The home has two comfortable bedrooms with a large connecting screened in deck below a large main deck and two nice.bathrooms. the upstairs has a small but fully equipped kitchen, large dining area and a very nice living room with entertainment center stocked with games, books, movies, and tv.
That's all great, but we didn't come here to stay inside. This island is amazing. No cars! Just golf carts. There are a couple of overpriced restaurants with marginal food but you'd be better off planning meals and cooking at the home. There are also a couple of small charcoals grills under the deck. Beaches were amazing! Shelling was fantastic! Wildlife everywhere! We saw manatees and dolphins every day. Turtles, rays, and even sharks. There is a rental shop on the island (Boats and Fun) that rents fishing poles. My first catch from shore was a shark! Lots of catfish too. There are beach chairs in the laundry room because let's face it, we came here to relax. Also, as part of the Safety Harbor club you have use of the pool/tennis facilities. We hung out at the pool the last day as we waited for our afternoon water taxi. The owners were great making sure our plans were set and we were met at the dock by a representative that helped us with our luggage and groceries.
The only thing that could be improved is the golf cart. It was SLOW! And often needed to be pushed by my kids. It was always fully charged and couldn't even make it up the smallest inclines (even with only one 150 person). We stopped at the safety harbor golf cart repair shop and asked if it could be checked out. A man eating a bowl of captain crunch cereal at 1 pm didn't look up from his bowl and said it was fine, it was checked last week. When I said it was really weak even with a full charge he again (without looking up, with a full mouth) said it was fine. To be clear, this part is not a negative review of the owner or the home, just that lazy (and apparently very hungry) golf cart "repair" man. We made the golf cart work, but it would be very difficult for some people to push that cart uphill. We had such an amazing time I almost feel guilty mentioning it.
If your looking for an AMAZING vacation, give this place a shot. You won't regret it.
Beautiful place! We will visit again.
My three sisters and myself stayed for a week at this home in North Captiva. We had a great time collecting seashells and enjoying the peace and quiet the island brings. We called it our turtle vacation. Take it slow and enjoy every minute. The home had two stories with two balconies one screened in and one open. Beautiful views, handy kitchen, and it was plenty big for the four of us. We enjoyed our stay very much. The quaintness of the island is a sight to see. Don’t forget to bring your groceries and have a wonderful time.
Thank You for such a wonderful review ! Your satisfaction and enjoyment makes all our efforts to provide a reasonably priced rental home worthwhile. We are very pleased that you and your sisters had a great time on our special Island.
