About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, 10 Sleeps

Unique and enchanting this refreshing retreat is located on a salt water lagoon just off the Mason Creek inlet to the Gulf of Mexico. The 1840 square foot 2002 Jacobsen Modular Home is nestled among native Cypress, Palm, Oak and Cedar trees on nearly 1 acre of land. This property is in an area of secluded homes (only three other homes are on this canal) but is only a few minutes away from the eating, shopping and sight seeing venues of Homosassa. In the backyard you’ll find an incredible screened-in tiki hut awaiting your family get-togethers. At night swap ghost stories (or tales of the big one that got away) around the campfire ring; in the morning watch the mullet jump and the dolphin and manatees play. On the opposite bank of the lagoon is a preservation area which begins the Chassahowitzka National Wildlife Refuge. Unbelievable exploration opportunities abound as the inlet is directly connected to the various Homosassa Springs waterways including the upriver springs, the Gulf of Mexico, the Crystal Reefs/Island, and the nationally recognized canoe and kayaking trails. As rustic and naturally beautiful as this area is you will not suffer for lack of modern conveniences inside the home. All modern appliances and cable TV, WiFi internet access, vaulted ceilings, fresh and invigorating Homosassa Springs water system and a romantic and cozy fireplace are there to make your stay comfortable and memorable.

River Safaris and other Nature tours are available in town, or bring

your own boat and make an adventure of your own, if you dare.

Great getaway

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at this property during a holiday weekend where the weather was not very cooperative for outdoor activities. The foosball table and Tiki bar provided great entertainment during periods of inclement weather.

The area is beautiful and this is a great place to see Old Florida and relax.

The owners are very accommodating and wonderful to work with.

I would recommend this to anyone looking for a relaxing get away.

Enjoyed our stay

  • 4 of 5

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay here. We came for scalloping and enjoyed the fully equipped kitchen, the grill, and the tiki hut. The washer and dryer were very much appeciated. My only complaint (and it’s a small one) is that I paid for the linen service and none of the beds was made when we arrived. Not fun to show up after a long day and have to make five beds!! Possibly that information is somewhere in the fine print, but I didn’t see it. All in all, we were happy with the house and the location and would stay here again.

Girl Scout trip success

  • 4 of 5

Our Girl Scout troop of 6 girls and 2 moms rented this home for our quick trip to snorkel with the manatees. The house was just fine. It was about 20 minutes away from where we snorkeled. When we were securing it on VRBO the photo of the bunk room did not have a race car bed but it did when we arrived. Not a big deal as we were still able to fit an air mattress in the same room for girl #6. The girls did use the canoe and kayak although the canoe has a broken seat so be careful. The paddle boards are plastic don't have fins so it's a real struggle to use them, especially if you have been on a real paddle board with a fin before but our girls made the best of it. They enjoyed making smores on the campfire and hanging out in the tiki hut. They did not enjoy the clean up & laundry that had to be done before check out but they managed just fine. Overall we had a great stay and we would recommend this home to other guests.

Great scalloping getaway

  • 5 of 5

Convenient to everything. The house is clean and well equipped with anything you might need. The 3rd room is great for kids, or grown ups who still like to sleep in race car beds. The biggest selling point here is the outdoor area. The tiki bar is much bigger than in looks in the pictures. Plenty of room around the bar as well as the game table. They have a boom box for music and a box fan to keep the air circulating. The deck, if you look closely, is actually an old boat (SS Minnow). There's a fire pit and a boat ramp. The ramp is great for launching kayaks or perhaps a small jon boat, but the water levels during low tide really prevent launching much else if you hope to make it to the river. That being said, there are plenty of other options for launching your boat at one of the nearby public ramps or at McRaes. You are so close to McRaes you can be there in a matter of minutes and easily avoid the weekend deluge that will happen if you try to get there after 9am.

Only downside was the extensive cleaning list at checkout: Kind of a bummer to end up your vacation mopping floors and cleaning the bathroom. I would have preferred a modest cleaning fee applying to the rental. It actually took a couple hours as we had to launder all the linens as well.

Great place to spend a fun weekend with friends!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed a long weekend on the river and had an amazing time. The accommodations were good (lots of sleeping room), AC worked great and we had everything we needed. The best part about the property is the Tiki Bar on the river. We spent the majority of our time out there listening to music and laughing! The only suggestion I would make is for the owner to have some "copies" of the water ways, that highlight how to get on to the larger river from the canal. That would be helpful for those who bring their boats and drop in at the house. Other than that, Chris was great to work with and we had everything we needed! Would definitely recommend this home.

British Invasion to Old Homosassa

  • 5 of 5

Family & friends flew over for a visit and exploring the west coast of Florida before "doing" a few days at Disney. I must say that this Is just like coming home. I had inquired If there were enough pot's and pans to make our Easter dinner and was assured there were, that was an understatement, so many cupboards in the kitchen - there was a little bit of everything and some!! Tried to get everything back together and ship shape before leaving but were a little hindered by a huge storm which sent us all to the tiki bar where we thoroughly enjoyed the light show. Must say the tiki bar Is a huge plus and kept my pale skinned English family away from the noseeums , also thoroughly enjoyed the kayaks. All in all a very enjoyable stay in your home and hope to be back again. Oh and my brother in law said he had a great trip down the river on the African Queen - that bit was a joke :) :) ... Places to go and visit (with children) Weekie watchee mermaids & swimming hole, Homosassa state park, Crystal river, swimming at Rainbow river, Silver springs state park, Ocala square for lunch, lunch at Swampy's Dunnellon, Dinner at The Old mill. Kings bay.(best ice cream on the bay) Farmers market at four corners, the list goes on. Yes this Is very central for everywhere :).............Thank's again!. - Julia
