WOW!!!! WHAT AN AMAZING PLACE!!!

  • 5 of 5

At The Springs was everything I hoped for and more when I was planning a surprise 2nd honeymoon for my wife.

Could not have picked a more perfect or picturesque setting. The innkeeper "Jeanne" was so nice. She had the kitchen stocked with fresh fruit, cereal, pop tarts and lots of other goodies. The cottage itself was perfect for my wife and I. (kitchen/sitting area, big bedroom with fireplace and the bathroom with 2 person jacuzzi tub (very nice) )!!!! There is huge gas bbq pit just outside the door for cooking anything you want. (don't know why the folks were complaining about the small stove. Just use the pit.) We did not have any trouble at all with the plumbing (maybe the people from the other review flushed something they shouldn't have). We didn't even turn on the tv, just looked out the window at the awesome scenery. Especially the 2 squirrels who seemed to have a game of "toss the acorn" going on every morning. It was also very nice to have our own "off street" parking spot as parking in Manitou Springs is at a premium. The one night it snowed, Jeanne had the walk cleared by 7am. Did I mention that she was great? The location is great also: Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods, 7 falls, all the attractions are practically right in your backyard.

Anyway folks, if you're a couple looking for the perfect romantical (is that a word?) getaway. Do not pass on At The Springs. It will always hold a special place in our hearts and I know it will in yours too.

Excellent Anniversary Get-away!

  • 5 of 5

This was our first trip to Colorado, and this was the perfect spot to spend our 2nd anniversary. The location was perfect, with easy access to trails and an easy walk to beautiful downtown Manitou Springs. The jacuzzi tub helped ease our sore muscles after our daily adventures. We highly recommend!

WHEN CAN I COME BACK?

  • 5 of 5

We arrived to a very pleasant surprise. The Innkeeper had put in some fresh fruit as we had arrived late and I was starving. It was great to have a few things like Pop Tarts and Popcorn furnished in this Cottage as I really did not want to run out that evening. The bed was very comfortable and our stay was perfect. I LOVED the bathroom. Being able to walk to the downtown was wonderful. We will be staying here on all our future visits as we love Colorado as this area seems to have the most to do so close by.

Not everything we had hoped for... but nice rental

  • 2 of 5

The owner was very responsive and communicated with us numerous times prior to our arrival which was very comforting. We rented the cabin for our 1 year anniversary to do some sightseeing and enjoy Manitou Springs. The fireplace is perfect since you can adjust the heat to the exact temperature you want; however, the heat does not travel into the kitchen/sitting room, so it is very chilly in there in the morning. The kitchen/sitting room is a decent size for two people; however, the way she positioned the couch it makes it very difficult to watch tv (maybe if she moved the couch to the adjacent wall, people could enjoy the tv). This wasn't a big issue since we brought an iPad and watched movies on there. The bedroom is very cute and is perfect for the setting in Mantiou. The biggest issue we encountered was the bathroom. The cabin is very old and you can expect some noises just from age but whenever the shower, toilet or tub are going you hear the water run all throughout the walls and come up in the kitchen sink. Our second night there, the shower would not drain and it backed up into the toilet and then the tub. We contacted the owner but unfortunately it was the weekend and could not be fixed. The water eventually drained when we returned from dinner but then as I wanted to take a bath that night (30 weeks pregnant and needed to relax in the tub), the tub again did not drain. This time, the water filled into the shower and toilet. My husband was already asleep and when I realized this happened, the water had overfilled onto the floor. For the next hour, my husband was sopping up water in the bathroom and trying to get the water to stop coming up from the shower. Needless to say, the owner did not compensate us for this incoveince on our anniversary weekend. She did offer for us to walk into her house to use the bathroom but this is not practical when you are waking up every 2-3 hours to use the bathroom since I am pregnant.

We decided to leave early that morning and not deal with the cabin any longer. Our fun anniversary weekend was more stressful than anticipated.I would not recommend this rental!

Owner's Response: We care about all of our guests. Occasionally, something breaks or in this case, there was a back-up on a Saturday night. The guests left the next morning which was their scheduled departure date. Calls were made to several companies that Saturday evening, but no company responded until Sunday. Problems are always addressed as soon as possible but sometimes a problem can not be solved instantly. There is a space heater with a thermostat control so that the kitchen/living area is not cold in the morning. There is a loveseat and a comfy chair with footstool so that one can lay down on the settee/couch while the other sits in the chair with footstool and watches TV. Guests are welcome to move the loveseat but the furniture is currently arranged the way most guests have preferred. I wish these guests had changed the seating arrangement to their desire or availed themselves of the space heater. I had no indication from these guests that they were so dissatisfied until I received this review.

good honeymoon spot, great location

  • 4 of 5

We came for our honeymoon and it was perfect. The best part was how the cabin was in walking distance to some hiking trails and Pikes Peak COG railway and also a cute downtown. The cabin itself is quite small but cozy for two people. Probably our favorite part was the tub which was very comfortable to sit in after a long day of hiking. The only issue was that sometimes the water turned cold and then we had to turn it off and on again to get it to warm so it took a few minutes to fill up. We did not use the kitchen much- we went out to eat most meals and kept a few things on hand for breakfast and sandwiches for lunch so the kitchen worked for our needs but definitely wouldn't be good for someone wanting to cook. The bed wasn't anything fancy but was comfortable. The town also had several restaurants, nothing too great but they did the job and we liked being able to walk to everything. It took us awhile to find a breakfast spot but "The Kitchen" ended up being excellent despite the boring name and simple menu- don't be fooled! This location is also very close to all of our activities- minutes from Garden of the Gods, Manitou Cliff Dwellings, Pikes Peak COG railway and within approx 1 hour drive of Rafting and Helicopter tours in Canyon City, or Cave of the Winds or Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine. Like others mentioned there are a lot of stairs but we didn't find this to be an issue.

Owner's Response: I thank these folks for a review that is HONEST and UNSOLICITED as one can tell by reading our reviews. As an Owner, I would like to think we are worth 5 stars however I think the content of reviews is much more important than the number of stars awarded. We are always trying to improve and our tankless water heater that was put in this last year-well the jury is still out on this! Although the plumbing company can't find anything wrong and it is supposed to give endless hot water it sometimes it takes a break and then you turn it on again a minute or two later and then the cold turns hot again. My hope is that everyone takes the time to read reviews when contemplating a visit.

Unexpected

  • 4 of 5

I expected the cottage to be small...it was bigger than I had pictured it in mind which was a pleasant surprise.

One of the main reasons I prefer to stay in a rental is the ability to cook my own food. When I saw a little stove/oven and a small fridge, I expected to be able to cook. Well...not so much. There were very limited cooking implements (i.e. pots/pans/utensils) provided. A small pot and a colander was about the extent of it. Because there is no ventilation we couldn't cook bacon, even in the oven. We couldn't even scramble eggs on the stove. (Both at the request of the owner, not by choice.) The freezer was pretty much frozen over so the ice cream we bought on on the way to the cottage made for a single HUGE dessert. We were able to cook on the grill and heat some things up in the microwave. That was unexpected, but overall not a terrible disappointment in the grand scheme of things.

The bed was comfortable enough and the tub was perfect. Parking was super convenient and a big bonus. I think the best thing this place has going for it is the location-just down the street from the Cog Railway, the Incline, and down town. We got a spring snow while we were there and were nice and toasty.

The owner is super friendly, hospitable and knowledgable about the area and local attractions. One of the coolest things in the cottage was a picture of the last time the Indians traveled on the Ute Pass (something like that)...it shows the cottage as it sat back in the early 1900s. VERY COOL.

As other reviewers have mentioned-there are a lot of stairs leading up to the cottage.

Owner's Response: I thank our guests for being candid and honest in their reviews as I think it really helps future guests know what to expect although we have tried to be clear in our descriptions. The cabin has a small kitchenette as is pictured with a little freezer compartment. There is no space for storing more than a couple of pots, colander and a heating tray. Most of our guests use the kitchenette for heating up left over pizza in the microwave, fixing sandwiches and maybe some quick oatmeal or toast before enjoying the days activities. The cabin is definitely set up for those who want a private little cabin in a great location, a small refrigerator to store some beverages and perhaps some fruit and cheese but are not into heavy cooking on vacation. Once again I want to thank all of our guests who have taken the time to write a review.
