Wonderful retreat, right on the ocean!

  • 4 of 5

this house had everything we needed. It was clean, furnished, and most importantly for us, right on the beach. We felt it was a comfortable distance away from hustle and bustle, and offered a nice comfortable stary for us in a beautiful area. It's perfect for the nature lover who may want to explore the GTM reserve across the street and for the types who just want to hang at the beach all day! We would definitely recommend it..

Adequate for our needs.

Very secluded. Nothing fancy but we come to the beach for the beach, not luxury. Totally met those needs.

Such a cute little beach house that has everything you need plus it is on a beautiful private beach

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay here. It is so lovely to sit on the porch

and look at that beautiful private beach.

with hardly any people at all on it. Such a great place for relaxing walks.

We look forward to returning.

Not exactly what it seems

  • 2 of 5

First of all, great location, so close to the beach and very convenient to everything outside of the house. I typically don't write detailed reviews, especially unfavorable reviews, but unfortunately, the house was disappointing. Upon arrival, while it was clean, we found the whole house in a degraded state. The door to the deck from the master bedroom was "inoperable", according to the owner - BUT he didn't say that until after we got there. It wouldn't close all the way nor would it open any further. The air was out, and it took all of our first day to get it fixed, and the house was nearly 90 degrees for practically the whole day. Jeff offered to put us up in a hotel if it didn't get fixed, but never offered to prorate our stay, and offered to send us food or take out (that we were supposed to eat in the hot house?). The floors are slanted pretty badly, making for uneven footing inside the house, and resulting in the main door to the back deck dragging badly on the tile (for long enough the it was beginning to groove the tile). We found roaches in different rooms on different days (one of our kids found one in their bed, and that gave us all the "creeps" for the rest of the week). The grill advertised is non-existent, but has been substituted by a rusty, broken down charcoal grill. The pictures are not actually representative of the state of things currently at the house. If we had known everything beforehand, we might have tried to make different arrangements, but we tried to make the best of it. We aren't snobs by any stretch of the imagination, but we spent hard-earned money on a house that simply did not live up to its advertising.

I'm sure it is difficult and expensive to keep up a house at the beach - fighting the salt and humidity, the hurricanes and constant wind, bugs and critters and such, but I think people deserve to know what they are actually getting when they rent a place. Renting sight unseen online is based on trust and while the scenery and setting is spectacular, this house was not, and I think potential renters have a right to know what they actually getting.

Owner's Response: It is never a good thing when you check into a home and the AC stops working (especially in the heat of the summer) This is my worst fear as a vacation home owner and it happened to this family. These AC units dont have a long lifespan on the ocean with all the salt air so we employ a 24-7 AC man. It so happened he was out of the country when this happened. I spent top dollar to the get unit fixed and running the same day it stopped working. Early in the day I offered to put this gentleman up in an oceanfront hotel not far from the house and have dinner delivered to him. The offer was declined. But I can totally see his frustration with the heat and did everything I could to rectify. The AC was fixed within 8 hours of notifying me. Their is no uneven footing in the house. None of the tiled floors are slanted at all. Only one portion of the hardwood floors in one bedroom. The grill must have been stolen, as I replace the grill every summer. I have since replaced it again and would have gladly supplied one on the same day had I known. We have admittedly had more roaches this summer than I can remember. There are a few openings with the doors that I am getting sealed up professionally in September. Very sorry about that. I also plan on removing most of the palmetto trees that surround the house where they come from. 3/4ths of our renters are people who return every year so we hate to see someone unhappy with their stay. We will do everything we can to fix these issues

Wonderful location and private beach

  • 5 of 5

We stay at this property every year for two weeks. The house is nice, very clean and close to beach...but the location, private beach and fishing is why we keep coming back. If we ever had a problem, the owners fix it right away. They are very easy to work with. Enjoy the wildlife and sunsets from Guana River State Park which is on other side of road. House is adequately stocked and if you need something grocery stores and great restaurants are within a ten minute drive.

Great family vacation home. Very clean.

Our family has been returning every year for the last 4 years. So private and relaxing. Beautiful sunrise and sunset from the huge back deck. Location is convenient to lots of activities in St. Augustine as well. You will not be disappointed.
