Cute holiday home on private Island
We had a wonderful week on Sunset Island with our three childreen. The house is cute and in a lovely and quite location with views of the harbour. The beach is only a short walk away and perfectly suited for the whole familiy. As it is a private residence area, we always had the beach to ourselves. The host, Kevin, is very friendly and helpful. He ferried our luggage to and from the house. The house itself is a 10 min, scenic walk from the state park car park. We very much enjoyed out stay and would be happy to go back!
Gracious host, lovely updated cottage, ideal location.
We felt ourselves relaxing and de-stressing from the moment we arrived. Perfect location for our family and friends. Convenient to all the Niagara sights. Our children took their bikes and explored the island and state park.(kept in touch w walkie talkies!). Never once asked for electronics nor complained about being bored!
Personalized service and welcome from the owners. Met us to haul our bags and supplies to and from the cottage. Enjoyed the bread and wine awaiting for us at the cottage. Should this cottage be available in 2017 we will be back!
Our family of 6 spent a fabulous week on sunset island. The island is a quaint little community...a hidden gem! The location was perfect to relax, spend quality family time, and yet close enought to many exciting adventure. We spent a day at Niagra falls, Niagra on the lake, and Toronto. We spent time on the beaches swimming and collecting beach glass. In the evening, we played board games and enjoyed each other's company. We enjoyed a week free from Internet and television distractions. The house was accommodating and confortable, with all the necessary amenities. I highly recommend this house and location. Thank you Keving for an enjoyable week!
Two weeks on Sunset Island
Kevin and Rose have established an absolute charming cottage on Sunset Island. My family spent two weeks there and we could have spent easily two more. You are not going to find a more patient person than Kevin on this planet. My work schedule was changing daily and he was so accomodating with our dates that I cannot thank him enough. The cottage itself is so thoughtfully laid out and decorated that I thought I was stepping into an article featuring Scandinavian cottage design in Architectural Digest. My two young boys would wake up every morning and run down to the ping pong table at the village green and then head to the lake shore in hunt of the most interesting washed glass. I grew up in WNY and had not been home for an extended time in 25 years. It thankfully has not changed and that is ever present with the wonderful residents on the island. Truly a specially group.
Thank you Kevin for sharing your cottage with us.
Sunset Island Rental, Wilson NY
I have been renting this cottage with a few friends for many years. The cottage layout is nice and has ample room to relax. The owners Rose and Kevin are real nice people and strive to ensure you enjoy your stay. The island setting makes this a relaxing and quiet place to enjoy your vacation. The neighbors are all very nice friendly people. Overall this is a great place to stay and I would recommend this cottage to others.
A week on Sunset Island
Amazing and unique place! A place to get away from it all, yet near many wonderful destinations. Niagara Falls, Fort Niagara, and many wineries are within 30 minutes away.
The cottage is clean, open and beautiful. We stayed during a heat wave, but it is always cooler on the island, and always a breeze when sitting outside, with a wonderful view of the harbor.
My family (wife and sons 8 and 12) spent a week here to attend my high school reunion. We took in the local sites, swam in the lake daily and had the best time a family could have.
The owners are terrific. They loaded our luggage and supplies into their boat upon our arrival and departure so we didn't have to carry it all.
Activity and Interests
Historic Wilson, on the Niagara wine trail, has several fine restaurants, some with live music, a fishing pier, boardwalk, banks, shops and pool. Niagara
Falls and the Seneca Casino are about a half-hour west; Lewiston and Artpark, Youngstown and Old Fort Niagara are even closer; the charming village of Olcott is 15 minutes east and Buffalo is 45 minutes south. Niagara-on-the-Lake (Ontario) is just across the river from Youngstown, and Toronto is a 90-minute drive around the lake (or a three-hour sail, depending on the winds).

- Sunset Island is a lovely community of seasonal and (a few) year- round residents who enjoy a particular kind of life: No cars, no trucks, no phones (unless you bring your own) a laid-back, easy, family-oriented lifestyle. You can arrive by boat from Lake Ontario or a public launch ramp across the harbor at the Wilson-Tuscarora State Park, or by foot, a 10-minute walk through the park. Guests may park their car in the park and either walk in or boat in using the Doherty dinghy. A stone beach on the island (or a sand beach at the state park), tennis courts, badminton nets and a horseshoe pit on the island, plus miles of marked nature trails and a Frisbee-golf course in the park offer plenty of family activities.Easy access to Lake Ontario and miles of back-stream waterways offer splendid opportunites for sailing, fishing, canoeing and kayaking.
