Right on the Guadalupe!

Bedrooms 2
Property type house
Minimum Stay nights

About the property

Charming, comfortable house. 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, large kitchen sleeps 7

The Guadalupe river is in the backyard with river access from a private deck. A great spot for fishing and swimming. The house is comfortable and spacious with beautiful views of the river located in a sparsely populated valley where you are likely to see deer and other wildlife on a daily basis. The master bedroom has a king bed, great views of the river and a large bathroom with a jetted tub/shower combination. The guest bedroom has a queen bed. There is a queen futon in the living room with a very comfortable mattress. The house also has a single bed in a bunk room. The kitchen is large and spacious. Ponderosa Outfitters tube rentals is conviently located on the same street as the house. A cozy river getaway!

Not what I was expecting!

The house is not as pictured don't be fooled by the pictures provided on home away those are at least ten years old the Texas picnic table is faded chipped and broken, the flooring in the home feels like it is sagging in many places. When we arrived at the home there were dirty sheets on the beds there were nasty stinking stiff river towels hanging in the closet the food screens in the kitchen sink drains were full of chunks of nasty old rotten food and the entire house had a musty moldy smell. There was also no clean towels I finally located the towels in the drier downstairs however no one in family wanted to use them nor did I want to use the washing machine provided as it is a front loader that has been allowed to grow mold and it leaves your clothes smelling bad. There were glasses with orange juice pulp put away in the cabinets and back splash all over the toilets, had to clean those myself before my four year old would even use them. The yard was not well maintained and the dock and river access was horrible it seems part of it may have washed away and the part that's left the supposed river access is at least five foot above the shallow rocky river bed forcing you to climb down a muddy overgrown riverbank to get in and out of the river, not good for children or anyone older which was over half of our party. It was not stated that there was a stairwell in the house leading down to a basement area there was no lock on this door which was also a problem for me with small children in an unfamiliar house. All of this I could have overlooked as I'm a pretty easy going person but somehow when I asked for a week rate on the property we got our wires crossed and and the owner only charged us until Saturday morning I thought we were supposed to be there until Sunday morning when we were planning on leaving for a couple night in town at the schlitterbahn resort when we returned from tubing the river that afternoon I was assaulted with threatening msgs from a man I had never spoken with before I immediately called the owner apologized for the confusion and offered to pay for another night as she had stayed she had other guests coming the next day, apparently her maid can't clean between 10 am checkout And 4 pm checkin heck it wasn't clean when we got there!! The owner was extremely rude and obviously doesn't care about that property nor her guests I will absolutely be booking earlier in the season next year so I don't have to settle!

Owner's Response: Casa del Guadalupe is an individually owned home. It has been cared for locally by the same amazing person for the last 12 years. If you read the other reviews, they are all positive. Many of my guests rent the house every summer. The rental request for this guest was July 10-16, 6 nights. A weekly rental was never discussed. There is a lock on the door that leads into the basement. The level of the river in relation to the deck depends on the flow of the river. Until the confusion of the checkout date, I was never advised of any of the other issues listed in the review. If I had been notified, I would have sent the caretaker of my river home over immediately.

Extremely relaxing

  • 5 of 5

Every year all of my girl cousins and aunts do a weekend trip, this was our 5th year of doing this. This house was the perfect fit. Besides the river being closed due to all the rain, we still enjoyed our weekend away in this very relaxing house. It is in a very quiet neighborhood but you could still hear the live music down the river. Since our phones couldn't pick up hardly any reception it was nice to not have them ringing every 5 minutes and we actually spent time talking and having a good time. The house was very clean and well maintained. Looking forward to returning . Thanks Carey!!

Quiet, Relaxing & Homey

  • 4 of 5

Was looking for a relaxing place to stay for my buddies bachelor party weekend. It was a group of 4 of us (25 to 28 years of age) and this was exactly what we were looking for. The home is a bit older, probably built in the 70's but that is the charm of the place. The porch overlooking the river was nice to relax out on during the thunderstorm we had. Our cell phone reception was poor but i consider that a plus as it forces you to leave all the stress behind. There is a house phone & wifi available. Carey was always available when I needed information.

The only quibbles I would bring up would be that the AC wasn't working very well and the photos showed a larger deck than what was actually there. I am assuming that during a previous flood the deck was rebuilt a bit smaller. There is a small landing that is suppose to provide access to the river but due to the low levels of the Guadalupe the past few years, the deck sat about 7 feet higher than the water.

If you are looking to get away from the horrible traffic jams & noise pollution, & want a relaxing weekend with family & friends, this is the place to go. We would definitely rent again.

Relaxing, scenic, quiet and well equiped home

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed the quiet and picturesque location on the Gudalupe, sitting on the balcony or deck watching the weekend traffic going along River Rd & people fishing daily and the wildlife all around us. The home is very comfortable, well equipped and with the cooler weather we enjoyed the fireplace. Carey was very accommodating and helpful with information on the area, places to visit and eating spots. The location is well worth the 20-30 minute drive to major shopping and New Braunfels activities.

Beautiful views, wonderful house, great for family

  • 5 of 5

We all loved the Casa Del Guadalupe! My husband and I are fifty something, my parents are eighty something, and our teenage son and his friend all found it great! Lots of room for everyone inside and out. My mom and I are already planning a girls getaway here.

Casa Del Guadalupe Excellent Place to Stay!

  • 5 of 5

We have actually stayed here many times and its one of my favorite vacation spots! We rent our tubes from little ponderosa which is just a short walk away from the property. It is very relaxing and the house is well maintained. Very clean and spacious. Can't wait to go back and visit. Trying to rebook for our next trip to float the river!
