About Nancy Palma

In 2006 I bought this little cottage in the heart of the Southside neighborhood. I have traveled extensively, and the one thing I have found out is that "it's nice to go away, but home is best". It's where you are most comfortable, where everything you need is right there, and as much as you like to visit elsewhere, it's always great to be back home. So, Welcome Home!

With those thoughts in mind I started HYH in GH to be the place you can call "home". I open my "home" to each guest I host, and many return because they have found a place to "hang their hat" and call "home".

Nancy (aka, "Mom")

Nancy Palma purchased this apartment in 2006

Why Nancy Palma chose Grand Haven

Whenever friends or family would visit us in Michigan we would always include a trip to Grand Haven. The boardwalk, the beach, the cute shops on Washington. We loved showing off "The Lake", climbing the dunes and relaxing with a nice meal downtown.

When I saw this little house, I knew it was where I could express my heart.

What makes this apartment unique

Located right downtown where you can park your car and walk to everything! Cozy and comfortable, Hang Your Hat is the place you will return to year after year and call "home". Everything you would think to bring with you is already here, and perhaps more :)

Guestbook comments from the owner

From snowy cold Wisconsin, we arrived in snowy Grand Haven and our home for the week - Hang Your Hat. On our many hikes along the channel, and on the pier to the lighthouse we saw beautiful ice formations and the rugged beauty of the wind blown broken ice on the Lake. We enjoyed delicious meals ans service at Elegance of the Seasons, Kirby's, JW's, and Fricano's Pizza. We also had yummy desserts at the Baker's Wife and Culvers. We were fascinated by the heated streets and sidewalks in downtown Grand Haven - they were free of snow and ice. The rest of the town has snow packed sidewalks and streets, and snow piles of 6 feet plus on the curbs. Thank you, Nancy, we had a relaxing, fun time in the cozy, warm "Hang Your Hat" flat.

Wonderful stay! Could not have nicer accomodations. The owner thinks of absolutely everything you might need for your stay. Very clean, great location in Grand Haven. We have stayed many times and never, ever been disappointed! :) Thank you, Nancy!

Great place!

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at hang your hat. I loved the leather couches and the deck with a gas grill. It is a two or mile walk from the beach and right off of the downtown area with easy access to baked goods, restaurants and ice cream. Lots of bike trails and parks as well. We appreciated the little extras like the wagon, board games, and dvds that made it easier with our son. We will definitely be back if we come to Michigan again.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your insightful review of all the great amenities at HYH in GH and the wide variety of activities available in our little city. The beach AND the city all easily accessed at the cottage (one mile to beach, one block to main street). I also appreciate your input on why you were only able to give HYH 1*, the use of your phone.... :( to write your review. Thank you for clarifying that is should have been 5*****! My desire is to make your stay, your best stay!

Owner's Response: So glad you experienced the Grand Haven State Park/Beach! The rain helped you experience more of GH and the surrounding area. I think you packed a lot into your stay! It was so delightful to meet you and your family! I loved how your daughter didn't want to leave; made my day.

Owner's Response: It's true! I love it that you come over and over, any time of the year. That little time away in your "happy place" makes me happy, too. Each season in Grand Haven has it's own special way of making your day! It is always my pleasure to add those special touches, like flannel sheets for winter, along with snow removal and off street parking. There is always something to do, year round, in Grand Haven, and coming home to your cozy flat is the best! See you next time :)

Couldn't have asked for more!

  • 5 of 5

From first email contact to the moment we left Hang Your Hat, Nancy was impeccable. There was nothing more we could have asked for during our stay. The location is perfect, the amenities provided, price, just everything really. So much thought and consideration has gone into everything provided. I can't speak highly enough of Nancy and Hang Your Hat. The only regret I have is not being able to stay forever :)

Thanks Nancy!

Owner's Response: My only regret is that I did not get to personally be able to meet you during your stay! I do love hosting guests, like you, who find HYH in GH a place to relax and recharge at for the days ahead. A Girl's Weekend is the perfect time to do this as you have found out. All the "extras" you mentioned are "standard" and my way of saying, "You're Home!" I look forward to meeting you during another stay :)

Owner's Response: We have a saying at HYH in GH: You arrive as a guest, and leave as a friend". It's always my pleasure to have you come stay. How many times now; 3 years and 5 stays? Maybe more! Thanks for making HYH your home away from home đź’–
