About Nancy Palma

In 2006 I bought this little cottage in the heart of the Southside neighborhood. I have traveled extensively, and the one thing I have found out is that "it's nice to go away, but home is best". It's where you are most comfortable, where everything you need is right there, and as much as you like to visit elsewhere, it's always great to be back home. So, Welcome Home!

With those thoughts in mind I started HYH in GH to be the place you can call "home". I open my "home" to each guest I host, and many return because they have found a place to "hang their hat" and call "home".

The Palma's welcome you, Nancy & Jim

Why Nancy Palma chose Grand Haven

Whenever friends or family would visit us in Michigan we would always include a trip to Grand Haven. The boardwalk, the beach, the cute shops on Washington. We loved showing off "The Lake", climbing the dunes and relaxing with a nice meal downtown.

When I saw this little house, I knew it was where I could express my heart.

What makes this apartment unique

Located right downtown where you can park your car and walk to everything! Cozy and comfortable, Hang Your Hat is the place you will return to year after year and call "home". Everything you would think to bring with you is already here, and perhaps more :)

Guestbook comments from the owner

From snowy cold Wisconsin, we arrived in snowy Grand Haven and our home for the week - Hang Your Hat. On our many hikes along the channel, and on the pier to the lighthouse we saw beautiful ice formations and the rugged beauty of the wind blown broken ice on the Lake. We enjoyed delicious meals ans service at Elegance of the Seasons, Kirby's, JW's, and Fricano's Pizza. We also had yummy desserts at the Baker's Wife and Culvers. We were fascinated by the heated streets and sidewalks in downtown Grand Haven - they were free of snow and ice. The rest of the town has snow packed sidewalks and streets, and snow piles of 6 feet plus on the curbs. Thank you, Nancy, we had a relaxing, fun time in the cozy, warm "Hang Your Hat" flat.

Couldn't have asked for more!

  • 5 of 5

From first email contact to the moment we left Hang Your Hat, Nancy was impeccable. There was nothing more we could have asked for during our stay. The location is perfect, the amenities provided, price, just everything really. So much thought and consideration has gone into everything provided. I can't speak highly enough of Nancy and Hang Your Hat. The only regret I have is not being able to stay forever :)

Thanks Nancy!

Owner's Response: My only regret is that I did not get to personally be able to meet you during your stay! I do love hosting guests, like you, who find HYH in GH a place to relax and recharge at for the days ahead. A Girl's Weekend is the perfect time to do this as you have found out. All the "extras" you mentioned are "standard" and my way of saying, "You're Home!" I look forward to meeting you during another stay :)

Owner's Response: We have a saying at HYH in GH: You arrive as a guest, and leave as a friend". It's always my pleasure to have you come stay. How many times now; 3 years and 5 stays? Maybe more! Thanks for making HYH your home away from home 💖

Hang Your Hat in Grand Haven! 5 Stars!

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely stay at Hang Your Hat in Grand Haven, even though it was short. We came for a wedding so we really didn't get to spend time with our friends, as they were the parents of the Groom. This location is excellent, you can walk to the main street of town from here & there are lots of restaurants & cute stores for shopping. I highly recommend Morning Star Cafe for breakfast. The Kirby House is also excellent, the Tuscan Mussels were outstanding. We loved the town, loved the property. It had everything we needed for our stay except a flashlight for when the power went out, lol! The power outage didn't last long so we were good with the flashlight app on our phones. The power outage was city wide & had nothing to do with where we staying. We loved everything about our visit & we intend to come back for a longer stay when we can see our friends and when they aren't in the midst of a wedding. Grand Haven is a lovely place and Hang Your Hat is comfortable, inviting and has everything you could need for a short or long visit. Our host Nancy is charming and we will be back to hang our hat in Grand Haven, at Hang Your Hat!

Owner's Response: LOL! On the power outage.... 3rd one in the 12 seasons I have been hosting wonderful guests, like you! It was a great way to help me see that one more thing needs to be added to the supply closet; a battery powered lantern! Thank you for your input and delightful comments on the place you will come to know as "home". I do looked forward to seeing my guests return, and meeting those who choose HYH in GH for a Grand Haven stay. Look for news about Hang Your Hat in Grand Haven on my Face Book page! Wonderful stay at Hang Your Hat

  • 5 of 5

This was our first visit to Grand Haven, and staying at Hang Your Hat was a great decision. It is close to shops, restaurants, the Grand River, and Lake Michigan beaches. The owner was truly hospitable, and we enjoyed meeting and getting to know her. We rented the lower part of the home. It was stocked with absolutely everything we needed, including a grill. We did a lot of our own cooking. Having two nice bicycles to use was super! Many of the renters come back year after year, and we can see why. If we visit GH again the future, we will definitely go back to Hang Your Hat. Thank you, Nancy!!

Owner's Response: It was my pleasure to host you for your first stay in Grand Haven, and at HYH in GH! Often guests are surprised by our city voted "Happiest Seaside Town" by Costal Living magazine. I know you found your way about easily on the bikes, and by car as you lived like a local. The Salmon Festival seemed to add to your surprises along the way. I do hope you will come for another stay and pass along the good news through my social media site.

Wonderful experience

This was our second year staying at Hang your Hat in Grand Haven. The cottage is clean, decorated so nicely and there's everything you need except toiletries. It's in a perfect location. Everything is within walking distance. Our family had a wonderful time.

Owner's Response: Returning Guests Are the Best! It is always my delight to have a returning guest and know that their expectations have been met once again. HYH in GH is fully outfitted with everything you could possibly need for a week's stay, except your personal items and beach towels. There are umbrellas for the occasional bout of rain :) I do hope your future plans for a vacation include HYH in GH! You must try a fall, or even a winter weekend, as they provide a different perspective of Grand Haven.
