About Hart or Marlene Phillips
Aloha! We retired to the Big Island in 2001 because we had traveled widely and this place provided us with the culture, scenery, and overall environment that fit us well. For many years, we lived right up the hill from Hale o Lei, in Kona Coffee Country. Now, we live Puna-side and are loving it there, too. Very special Island!!
Hart or Marlene Phillips purchased this House in 2005
Why Hart or Marlene Phillips chose Captain Cook
Kealakekua Bay has perhaps the best snorkeling in all of Hawaii. We have equipped our home to support this activity, as well as having a comfortable base to do anything you want. It is truly a home away from home, as you can see from our ratings.
What makes this House unique
Well situated, well equipped, well located, comfortable, enjoyable.
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
Spacious and clean
This was a very spacious and comfortable house situated in a quiet area near the Bay. Ants and mosquitoes were problematic, but the house was very clean and well-equipped. Swimmable beaches require a short drive, but it is easy to walk and rent kayaks to see the spinner dolphins. AC in all bedrooms would be very welcome!
Hale O Lei the best place to stay
Owner called to check on us. Very private (gated) with fruit trees. The house has a lot of ceiling fans which kept the house cool. Located across the water! I will definitely stay in this house again!
Couldn’t have asked for a better experience! The house was immaculate and well stocked, from kitchenware to plenty of towels to a full range of beach/water toys. The owners were also super nice, sending us helpful recommendations on things to do nearby.
Old Hawaii revisited
Amazing property for larger groups. Open floor plan, tons of outdoor living area. Ate outside for every meal. Clean well equipped kitchen.
The Sound of Birds and Waves
This place is nice. It's across the street from Kealakekua Bay, and being a distance swimmer who loves dolphins, the location was great. You can walk across the street and jump in the water off the old, cement pier. Getting out involves some strength and a little climbing, but isn't bad. You can also go not too far down the street and get in at Manini Beach. Two Step, a great snorkeling area is a short 10 minute drive too.
I enjoyed sleeping in the upstairs bedroom, which is separate from the house. Waking up to the sounds of so many tropical birds and hearing the surf in the background is wonderful, and the beds are comfortable.
The kitchen is well stocked with stainless steel cookware and pretty much anything you need including a blender for morning protein shakes or evening drinks.
There are a few different sitting areas---on the front lawn, the back deck, the front lanai, the upstairs lanai and off the parking area there is an outside living room. It would be the perfect house for a large group of friends or family.
