Hale o Lei is a charming, private 4 bedroom 2 1/2 bath beach house across the street from Kealakekua Bay, in quaint, historical, alternately bustling and serene Napo'opo'o Village. Our home is perfect for enjoying the uniqueness of this area and the Big Island. Hale o Lei has both inside and open-air living and dining areas, private master bedroom suite, outside spa and shower, a sunning deck, and 2 lanais facing the ocean. It is screened to allow you to enjoy the ocean breezes. We have completely outfitted Hale o Lei so that you will feel like you are coming home. It is about 100 feet from the kayak launching pier, a short walk to Manini and Keei Beaches, a one mile kayak to the Captain Cook Monument, a short drive to Pu'uhonua o Honaunau (The Place of Refuge), and right at some of the best snorkeling and spinner dolphin watching in Hawaii. We are eager to help in any way to make this your best vacation experience ever!
For a full Big Island experience, combine your visit with Hale Ehu Kai (Sea Spray House), our wheelchair accessible oceanfront home south of Hilo (#7030479)

Aloha! We moved the Big Island in 2001 because we had traveled widely and this place provided us with the culture, scenery, and overall environment that fit us well. For many years, we lived right up the hill from Hale o Lei, in Kona Coffee Country. Now, we live Puna-side and are loving it there, too. Very special Island!!
Hart or Marlene Phillips purchased this house in 2005
Kealakekua Bay has perhaps the best snorkeling in all of Hawaii. We have equipped our home to support this activity, as well as having a comfortable base to do anything you want. It is truly a home away from home, as you can see from our ratings.
Well situated, well equipped, well located, comfortable, enjoyable. We also have an oceanfront vacation home on the other side of the island (Hale Ehu Kai #7030479) and many people stay with us on both sides of the Big Island.
We’ve really enjoyed our stay here- love the upstairs bedroom with the ocean view and “jungle” bird songts. This is a comfortable home with all the amenities one could ask for.
My husband highly recommends the Manta Ray dive. “Other Worldly!” Mahalo
Our family of 4 stayed at Hale o Lei for one week and had an amazing time. The house had plenty of room, comfortable beds and was very well appointed, especially the kitchen. Hart was excellent about communicating and making sure we were comfortable.
The proximity of the house to Kealakekua Bay made for very easy access to the best snorkeling on the island. My kids loved watching the resident geckos hunt insects. If you're looking for true adventure, Hale o Lei is the place.
This comfortable and quiet house far exceeded my expectations. I’ve stayed in five rentals in the Kealakekua Bay area over the years and Hale o Lei tops them all. The location is perfect for snorkeling and kayaking. The kitchen area is fully stocked and the beds are super comfortable.
My girlfriend and I had Valentines Day dinner reservations elsewhere but we chose to stay “home” and cook a nice dinner for ourselves. That’s how great this place is!
Very convenient location. Lots of bathrooms for a smaller home. Had additional ocean necessities...chairs and snorkeling items and
other handy stuff. Kitchen was very nice. We had a great stay!
Amazing Snorkeling and kayaking across the street. Quiet and very well equipped house. Clean and great for family of 9!
We had a wonderful time at Hale o Lei during our New Years vacation. The house is has a very beach house feel to it, which is exactly what we would looking for. The house is next to Captain Cook and Kealakekua Bay State Historical Park. We would definitely recommend this rental.
Great place just across the street from the water. Our three generation family of 8 had fun jumping off the pier as well as snorkeling, fishing, and paddle boarding all around the bay. The house is not fancy and the grounds are jungley but everything was in good repair and very functional. The hot tub did not work when we arrived but Hart had it fixed in a day, thanks, we loved soaking under the banana grove! If you're looking for a humble country home in a magical locale you will be happy here!
