Guestbook comments from the manager

Humble Home Away From Home

As I step through this modest cabin door

And saunter all across its wooden floor,

Remembering the times I've come before,

I look again at quaint, familiar walls

And every picture from the past enthralls

Me as each image here my mind recalls...

I view the kitchen table and the chairs...

I grap the rustic rail and head upstairs

And flurr the pillows...tuck an end that flares...

Back down the steps, I check the fridge for grub...

Tonight, I'll get down in the clawfoot tub,

Soap up myself and scrub and rinse and scrub...

But for right now, the porch swing's where I feel

The peace this dwelling has; that's why I steal

Away a while: the solace here is real;

And as I softly swing and soak it it,

The river flowing by, I start to grin

And tell myself, "You've come back again".

We Loved the Glory Days log cabin!

  • 5 of 5

After reading all the reviews of Glory Days, we were very excited to spend a long weekend there. And we were not disappointed - it was a wonderful, beautiful, restful spot. The home is small but very quaint, comfortable and clean. My wife absolutely loved it! And the location right on the river was the best part of all. We spent our days fishing and relaxing and our nights sitting around the campfire and looking at the stars (which you never get to see in the city). Our teenage son barely turned on the TV or his electronics - he was too busy fishing! We tried our hands at close-by gem mining, which was fun too. We loved every minute we spent at Glory Days and hope to come back again soon. Thanks for opening the home up to visitors!

Cabin is beautiful

  • 3 of 5

The cabin and grounds are beautiful. The first two nights were bad due to the air not working. We tried to sleep through it the first night but it was impossible. The owner did replace the air unit the 2nd day but it never cooled off. It felt like we kept getting excuses but no resolution. We couldn't even cook in the cabin because it was so hot. The owner did move us to another cabin that night since we had to get up early the next day. The new cabin was much better and we were able to sleep but had to leave the cabin early and put the sheets and pillow cases in the wash. Another drawback was the tub/shower. The water has a bad smell and no water pressure. The cabin finally cooled on the 3rd night. We were ok with the spider webs and even the field mice but we did feel like the owner was irritated with us because we kept complaining about the air. When we tried to explain about the cooking situation the comment was 'just cook'. Well if it wasn't already 90 degrees in here maybe we could. My sister was also told to 'stop freaking out'. I just don't think the owner understood or was empathic to the situation. We should not have been asked 'what can I do' she should have been providing a solution.

Owner's Response: Hi Ruby, I am so sorry that you had such an ordeal. The week that you were here was a heat wave. When you arrived 3 hours ahead of time I mentioned to you that we just put in a new unit and the cabin needed to cool down. I guess it just couldnt get to that place with the doors being left open at night. I thought that I did all I could for you and your girls. I came down 3 times late at night with fans and I also out of empathy moved you to one of our other cabins for the night so you would all be well cooled and rested for yournext day train trip. I even offered to give you your money back if you felt to leave. Please tell me what more could I have done for you? I realize that it was uncomfortable for you since you mentioned that you keep your a/c on 64 degrees. You said that you were all fine there and you loved it. It was just what you were looking for. You never mentioned anything about the water or pressure so I was not aware. There is a slight sulphur smell in the water on the river cabins. We do keep it well filtered and do our best to make sure of it. We have since purchased a bigger a/c unit. All and all I do hope that you have made some good memories and honestly I though you would commend me for all the care and concern I gave to you and your group. Sincerely, Belinda

Owner's Response: Hi Kristen, I am so glad that you enjoyed Glory Days and our little town of Franklin. I was sorry to hear about the a/c. If you only would have called us we would have fixed or replaced it in a heartbeat. Although its been nice and cool in the evenings especially on the riverfront. Oh and there are pull out screens under the stairwell. Hope you can come back again. We enjoyed having you stay at Glory Days. Belinda

My husband and I loved this place!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I came here for our anniversary and fell in love with the whole set up and town! The river front view and night time camp fires were perfect for us! Not to mention the great kayak float that landed us right in the cabin front yard at the end! So convenient and peaceful! We definitely will be back!

Lovely little cabin for a cozy weekend.

  • 4 of 5

Even with the frigid weather, we were warm in the restored cabin, not saying that it wasn’t drafty though. The gas fireplace sufficiently warmed the down stairs and since heat rises, the bedroom loft was toasty. So much so, we had to open the window to let out the heat! Bed is comfortable , though only full size, and situated in the room that leaves very little head space in the left. There are two small pallets for children, but I can not imagine sharing the small space. Downstairs sofa is small with no other seating so good for only two. Good WiFi and decent cable on a somewhat small tv. We were there over New Year’s so we watched all the college football bowls. Kitchen is well stocked, though no ice maker, only trays. Bathroom is tight and cold; no soap for the shower in bathroom only hand soap but good supply of hot water.

Nice cabin on river. No luck fly fishing in it though. Recommend for a spring or fall stay, and even real cozy winter stay. Can’t imagine the small window unit upstairs keeps the place cool in the summer with all the drafts. But maybe it doesn’t get that hot in August?

Very quaint decor, very patriotic USA decor, red white blue, save for the Confederate items which is an enigma to me. Just my opinion.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your review. I am so glad that you enjoyed your stay. It sure was a cold spell during your stay. I wanted to just clarify some cabin info for my upcoming future guests. First the main bed is a Queen bed. I also do have many small families come and stay at Glory Days.Their children love the pallet beds.It is warm in the winter and I have never had a guest say they were hot in the Summer. The cabin is on the river and the breeze is beautiful. This cabin is a restored 1860s original log cabin taken from a small farm in Southern Virginia.Staying at Glory Days is a unique experience! Its a place to unwind and experience peace. Its freeing. We hope you can come back again during the Summer. The fishing is great!
