Guestbook comments from the manager

Humble Home Away From Home

As I step through this modest cabin door

And saunter all across its wooden floor,

Remembering the times I've come before,

I look again at quaint, familiar walls

And every picture from the past enthralls

Me as each image here my mind recalls...

I view the kitchen table and the chairs...

I grap the rustic rail and head upstairs

And flurr the pillows...tuck an end that flares...

Back down the steps, I check the fridge for grub...

Tonight, I'll get down in the clawfoot tub,

Soap up myself and scrub and rinse and scrub...

But for right now, the porch swing's where I feel

The peace this dwelling has; that's why I steal

Away a while: the solace here is real;

And as I softly swing and soak it it,

The river flowing by, I start to grin

And tell myself, "You've come back again".

Sleepy little get-away

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful couple of nights at Old Glory. Coffee on the porch, fires at night...wonderful and so peaceful. In complete transparency, it is only about 50 yards from Hiway 28 which can be busy (especially with motorcycles) during the day but it calms down at night and is not really problem. even so, we'll go back for sure.

Great little cabin!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I loved staying here! The cozy little cabin was tucked away by the river, right off of the main highway that takes you right into Franklin. Easy to find and get back to! We stayed here 3 days and 2 nights, and not once did we turn the TV on! We hiked the blue trail in the Natahala National Forest and plundered downtown Franklin. Great place! We will be back for sure!

Nice little cabin on the river.

  • 5 of 5

Me and 4 of my redneck buddies went to this cabin for a bachelor party weekend, we grilled out on the grill provided every night, we lit a fire in the fire pit everynight, and caught plenty fish out the river that's so close you can stand on the back porch and piss out into the river, it ain't but 30 minutes to the Nantahala outdoor center, and the road trip to the cabin and leavin from the cabin is always fun to drive, we took a 14 passenger bus, just cause it was funny, on the trip and I whipped that big brick around all the corners and down the mountain and up the mountain back and forth to the cabin. We turned the heater on one night thinkin that it would take a while to heat up... shooooooot, we had the heater on 30 minutes, came back in and the place of blazin hot, the heater works GREAT! you don't need it on but about 10 minutes. We ended up having to open the windows and doors and cut the AC on it got so hot so quick. The stoves gas so it cooks like grammama. It was the end of march and I tell ya, it was perfect sitting outside by the fire, the river, my best buddies, passin around a jar-o-liquor. I didn't really see a downside I mean the place was perfect.

Owner's Response: Speechless and so glad that you had a great time.Thank you for the review. Just want to clarify that this cabin isnt on a winding road but if you go further north to Bryson city the road has a lot of twists and turns.Sounds like you had a good time straitening out some of them. Now as far as the back yard goes its a good 50 feet. LOL. Thanks again.

Enjoyed our stay at this cute little cabin. It is nice and clean and well appointed. The opportunity to fish right from the yard was fun, though we didn't catch anything worth eating. Also enjoyed the fire pit by the river (bring your own wood).

The location does feel a bit different in reality than it appears in the photo. I'm just saying, because it appears to be secluded, but is not- a main road (not a busy highway, but there is traffic) runs right in front of it (which in the photo appears to be a hillside going up into woods, but there is a road right there), and there are neighbors on each side and beyond.

Inside, the water had a very strong sulfur smell which was quite unpleasant. I saw in the guest info book to contact the office if this was the case, so I did by text. They were very quick to respond (as they were when I was making the reservation-great property manager), glad to come over and change the water filter, but unfortunately, it didn't do much for the sulfur smell. Also, the gas fireplace gave off a very strong gas smell (propane, or whatever gas it is) that made me feel sick one night, so after that we just used the space heater provided instead of the fireplace. My husband, however, wasn't bothered by the gas smell, and none of my 3 kids seemed bothered, either, so maybe I'm just sensitive.

In spite of these things, though, we did have a very nice time there, and the rental rate (even on Christmas holiday) was very reasonable.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. Sorry to hear that you smelled propane. I actually had the unit serviced right before you came as we do every year. But you know I am sensitive to propane as well and so I can understand. As far as the water goes the cabin is on an artesian well so every once in a while there is a slight sulfur smell that we try very hard to keep at bay. Most of the time we are very successful but every once and a while the weather changes and then we change the filter more often. Actually we put a new filter in every 10 days just so our guests are covered. This cabin even has a new whole house water filter so Im surprised that you still had an odor. We are sorry for any inconvenience. Oh just for the record and future guests. This cabin is located off a country 2 lane and has a small lane about 2 acres to the right and there is another small cabin 2 acres to the left with its own entrance. None of which come close to this cabin. The back of the cabin has river and there are no homes on the other side of the river at all. Honestly when you are there you will feel like you own the river. Private but not remote. Thanks so much for staying with us. If you choose to come back again I have other river cabins with electric heat. Again thanks, Belinda

We Loved the Glory Days log cabin!

  • 5 of 5

After reading all the reviews of Glory Days, we were very excited to spend a long weekend there. And we were not disappointed - it was a wonderful, beautiful, restful spot. The home is small but very quaint, comfortable and clean. My wife absolutely loved it! And the location right on the river was the best part of all. We spent our days fishing and relaxing and our nights sitting around the campfire and looking at the stars (which you never get to see in the city). Our teenage son barely turned on the TV or his electronics - he was too busy fishing! We tried our hands at close-by gem mining, which was fun too. We loved every minute we spent at Glory Days and hope to come back again soon. Thanks for opening the home up to visitors!
