Smelly, bug-ridden cottage with gorgeous views....

  • 2 of 5

The absolutely gorgeous views of the lake and the sunset and location near the wine trail are the only things that kept me from leaving this house and opting for a hotel. The house overall has a very strange and foul odor particularly downstairs (the bedroom). Upon further inspection of a small door in the bedroom it was apparent where the smell was coming from - the sewer lines from the upstairs bathroom. Unfortunately, the access door to the pipes does not close, thus the smell permeates the house. Whomever manages the property must be aware of this issue because each floor has a plug in air freshener I assume to mitigate the issue. However, the downstairs one was empty and the smell was overpowering. The house also has large, black ants, which is both expected by a lake, but could also easily be taken care of. The decks and balcony were absolutely covered with cobwebs - again would be a 10 minute job with a broom. The bathroom lacked hand soap completely and when we grabbed the hand soap from the kitchen sink it was a hand soap bottle that was filled with water. We left a bottle of soap that we purchased during our stay to extend to others the courtesy that we were not. The roman shades that cover all of the doors that overlook the lake were hard to operate and 3 of 4 were malfunctioning. Would have left them alone but it was necessary to roll them up completely to use the doors and without them down you can see right into the house at night. The notes indicated that there "may" be wifi - may=no wifi...ever...the entire stay. I was also really disappointed as I had purchased specific food to cook on the grill because the listing indicated there was a gas grill on the premises. The grill was covered with rust, food particles, and chunks of aluminum foil that I can only assume was others' past attempts to mitigate the nasty grill surface. Overall, it appears that this place is poorly managed and that whomever is in charge of upkeep is either not detail oriented, or simply doesn't care. It's a shame because this property has a TON of potential. So, if you're only interested in sleeping somewhere with great views and you don't have a sense of smell nor do you mind ants, this is your spot.

Very clean! The view was amazing. You can walk out on the dock and enjoy a beautiful sunset. Parking was tight, but found out later that we could have parked across the street.

Awesome Property

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I escape to the Finger Lakes each spring. This year, I decided to check out VRBO for cottages. I came across this cottage and immediately fell in love with the location and the modern style. The pictures perfectly show the condition of the cottage, very clean and modern. Another plus, linens and towels are provided! We couldn't have been happier with our stay at this cottage! We will definitely be back and would recommend a stay here!

Cute little Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Although this cottage could handle 4, it's perfect for 2. We stayed here for 2 trips to the Seneca Lake area. The cottage is clean and right on the lake. Beautiful sunsets from your private dock, which connects to the porch. Part of the ground level porch is covered so the one time it rained, we were still able to sit out on the porch with a cup of coffee watching the rain on the water. It was very cozy and nice. The only down side is if the weather doesn't cooperate and you just want to relax inside, the living room area coaches are quite uncomfortable. I'd recommend this property.

Nice location and nice dock

  • 3 of 5

Property could be fantastic but is lacking so many huge comfort issues. The couches in the living room are AWFUL. They are college room futons. After a long day just simply no place to relax! The bed is like a board. Pillows and bedding was worn and shot. Tv in bedroom has no cable box???? You would have to have DVDs to use it. The TV in the living room only gets a few channels. Lastly, no ladder to get on and off the dock, no comfortable out door chairs or recliners for outside. I am not usually a complainer, but those simple fixes could make a world of difference.
