My family and I had a wonderful time at this very quaint and quiet rental. We enjoyed both the beach in the back yard, and the refreshing pool. The water pressure was good (which is suprising for a small town in mexico). There were movies and booths which were great when the hurricanes kept us indoors. We enjoyed swinging in the hammocks both inside and out. The fans in every room made our stay very comfortable.

We mada a day trip to cancun, chichin itza, celestun, merida, and cenotes as well. The driving was easy and well marked roads made it easy to find things.

We found the kitchen well stocked with pans, utensils, plates, bowls, etc.

It was nice having Ramon on site to care for things as they came up.

Pink Flamingos and Stunning Sunsets!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I spend many years traveling to the Mexican Caribbean. I only wish we knew of Sisal much sooner. It is what the resorts of Cancun and Playa de Carmen must have been 30 years ago. The people are genuinely friendly and helpful. The beaches are exquisite and secluded. All this right in front of Marty's establishment, Sisal sur Mer. The beautiful Gulf of Mexico with it's white sand beaches are steps from the house. The fresh water pool is amazing after long walks on the beach. In the evenings we made a point of watching the flamingos and the best sunsets we have ever witnessed. We never felt like renters but friends. Betty, his property manager, is the sweetest and most kind person always willing to provide information or assistance. We were so pleased that I am writing this review while sitting on Marty's porch. Yes, a second visit in less than a month. Please keep in mind that this is a working fishing town everything is not groomed and perfect like the tourist traps of Cancun and Playa de Carmen. The signs of change are here, improved infastructure and the beautiful new homes being built. We feel fortunate to have experienced this place in it's current unspoiled state. We highly recommend Sisal sur Mer!

Authenticité garantie!

  • 5 of 5

En anglais: you get better than what you see on VRBO!

Peaceful vacation

  • 5 of 5

My family had a lovely, restful and peaceful vacation at Marty's guest house. Clean, spacious and comfortable, with everything we needed. Marty was a great host, happy to answer any questions or help us with whatever we needed. We often had the beach to ourselves, and the lovely yard with shady palm trees, the veranda and the pool was where we spent most of our time. The house was ideal for our young kids (ages 4 and 1) and there was plenty of room for us (3 adults and 2 children). Sisal is a lovely town - a handful of great seafood restaurants and all of the basics (groceries, beer etc) an easy walk from Marty's place. Merida is an easy drive (45min-1hr) too and a beautiful city with lots to explore - we had a great time at the zoo, in particular. Perfect vacation spot for those, like us, wanting a quieter holiday away from the hustle and bustle of the resorts.

Quiet, comfortable, spacious home on the beach!

  • 5 of 5

Marty's Guest House is a wonderful retreat. We had plenty of space, both indoors and out, for 5 people to enjoy a week of sun, sea and tranquility. The property was clean and as described. We spent most of our time outside--either on the spacious shaded patio, under the palm trees in the back yard, or on the beach which was steps away. As we had hoped, there were few others on the beach and we could swim morning, noon and night.

We did do a couple day trips--to Merida and to Ticul (with a cave exploration on the way) and had possibly planned to do more, but it was so luxurious to simply step outside and onto the sand that we stayed put the majority of the week, and could easily have lazed away another week or more.

Heaven on earth :)

  • 5 of 5

Sisal is a magical place, my wife and I would always drive there for the day and then back to Merida until a couple of years ago when we found Marty's place. Simply... Paradise! And one word: Peacefulness. We have been going through challenging times due to medical treatments, and having a trusted place to go made a HUGE difference in our lives. Since 2013 we have been there twice or more times a year. The price is right and most often the beach there is to ourselves. If you need peace, tranquility, away from it all this is it! And to top things off, we found a new friend for life, Marty the owner. Marty takes care of every little detail, from fresh towel, to plenty of water to directions and recommendations to near by places. Payment and reservations arrangements were smooth. Best thing... your privacy, and the magnificent view every morning. We hold memories of a lifetime. And will forever return.

Oceanfront comfort surrounded by beautiful nature

  • 5 of 5

Marty, the owner of the property was very welcoming and helpful. The house and grounds are comfortable and well maintained, There are beautiful ocean views from the master bedroom. living room and porch. We loved falling asleep to the gentle sound of the waves and going for morning beachcombing walks right out the front door. I was pleasantly surprised to see flamingos on the lagoon right before the entrance to town. This is a great place for a relaxing vacation at a beach away from the crowds.

Activity and Interests

Car: recommended

New experiences and real value are important touchstones for discerning travelers. Couples and families crave longer, more meaningful vacations for recreation and relaxation. They seek one-of-a-kind destinations where they can pursue their passions and create their own distinctive memories.

The premium choice is Sisal Sur Mer situated on more than 13,000 square feet of coveted oceanfront property bordering the El Palmar Biological Reserve. Casa Principal contains more than 2600 sq. ft. while The Guest House has over 1650 sq. ft. of luxurious living space.

Enjoy coffee on our large oceanfront terrace while watching local fishermen head out to sea to catch your evening meal, swim in the Gulf of Mexico, stroll on the beach, go shelling, snorkeling or fishing, relax in a hammock, sun bathe or take a dip in our free form pool. Fine dining is within walking distance. But Sisal Sur Mer is not just beautiful wide beaches, quaint fishing villages and friendly Mayans. Sisal is an ecotourism destination.

Discover its unique environment; watch pink flamingos and sea turtles, visit coastal estuaries and mangroves which support an extraordinary and diverse population of aviary and marine wildlife, see the vast salt beds, then visit mangrove thickets, lagoons and coastal dunes or explore underground caves and cenotes.

Immerse yourself in Pre-Columbian culture. The pyramids of Chitchen Itza and Uxmal are just a few hours away while Dzibichaltun and other less famous archaeological sites are nearby. Let Mayan culture transport you to another time.

Drive less than 45 minutes to fine dining, night clubs and world class shopping in Merida. You will find familiar conveniences at Costco, Sam's Club, Walmart, Sears, OfficeMax, Office Depot, Home Depot, Friday's, Subway, Pizza Hut, and Bennigans.... but you will also discover a city, founded in 1542, with beautiful mansions and museums.

Sisal Sur Mer.... the perfect balance between luxury and tranquility.
