Paradise thru a sliding door!
The title reflects what I thought as I walked thru the front door of our unit! All I could see as I walked onto the balcony were tropical plants leading to the pool and, to top it all off, the Atlantic Ocean/ Charleston Bay (or whatever it was) stretching as far as I could see!. It was stunning!
The unit's living area felt larger that the photos. The two auxiliary bedrooms were a bit smaller than they appeared in the listing.
The kitchen was well equipped even though we hardly cooked!
The "town square" area across the street was great. The pizza place there was very good. There was a Ben and Jerry's and some stores. We walked next door to Coconut Joe's for dinner one night.then drove to Sullivan's Seafood the next. Sullivan's was exceptionally good. Joe's was good but had a less extensive menu.
The pool area was sublime. The "sitting ledge" in the pool was great. The pool stayed pristine without an overwhelming smell of chlorine. Having the gas grills right there would be great if we did any cooking!
There were a few paint smudges, peeling paint on cabinets and missing grout. But, nothing could taint this lovely condo and surrounding amenities. and the perfect vacation it provided.
Perfect Spot for Family Getaway
Perfect spot, perfect height balcony, just over the palm tree tops for an unobstructed view of the pier and ocean. Very large floor plan, plenty of space.
Unit could use some TLC on several small maintenance items, (fridge door shelf falls out when opening the door, 2nd bedroom bottom two drawers of one of the dressers are unuseable, 3rd BR TV is falling apart/old), but that's being nitpicky.....it really was great for the most part and who can really complain about oceanfront living for a week in the summer on an island? We had a great time and would love to come back. Thanks so much!
We expected to pay 1/2 up front, they ended up charging our card for the whole thing right away.
Cabinets were peeling, funky smell in the condo, no plastic ware for children or storage. Could have been a bit fancier for the amount paid. However, we were on the beach most of the time. We have condos in Scottsdale, people wouldn't be happy with the upkeep of this place. But it was just ok.
Owner forgot to book our vacation Property Manager
Owner Matt Schoolfield recieved payment in full for Unit 205 1140 Ocean Boulevard Isle of Palms, SC but forgot to book the rental with the Property Manager. Property Manager said because of his error our the unit was not ready for 4 PM check in and also said if I had booked the unit through their Homeaway account instead of owner's this could not have happened. Property Manager called the owner but had to leave messages on his phone because he was not immediately available. I also called the owner but my call went to voice mail too. After a few minutes the owner called me and asked him why he didn't book me with the Property Manager and he didn't have an answer at that point in the conversation. It was when he asked me when I had booked the property and I said 2018 that he finally remembered me and admitted that he simply forgot to book the rental with the Property Manager. He then apologized to me and said he would compensate me for the
delay and trouble he had caused me and I said okay. Meanwhile, the Property Manager was busy putting together a rental package with all the pertinent information about the property and told me that cleaning staff was onsite and finishing up their cleaning and told us that we could go to the unit and it would be ready. So we get there and no one is there and the place is filthy and a wreck. I walked through the place and took several pictures and sent them to the Owner's cell. He responded and said that because he didn't book us no one was scheduled to clean that day. That is the last time the owner has spoken to me. So we decided to leave and go find a hotel room somewhere but on the way out of the unit a lady showed up and said she was the with the Property Manager's cleaning staff and she was waiting on her crew to get there but they were stuck in traffic so it would be a while longer before the place would be ready for us. So we loaded all of our bags back into our cars and decided to go have a drink! We finally got in the unit around 8 PM. As of this date, I haven't heard from the owner and he has all of my contact information. R. Cox
Wow. Mr. Cox, i guess our recollection of facts is a little different from one another, sir. I hate that the afternoon you arrived you experienced several hours of frustration. I do. I’m sorry. I do think we can agree that your anger has lead to embellishment at the least, or even misrepresentation below. I forgot to take your reservation form VRBO and make it with my management company. No excuses - just as i told you that day. Because i forgot they were not expecting you and had not scheduled anyone to clean the unit. We established that and a plan to rectify. Once you got into the unit, you started sending me pictures of the dirty rooms. One by one. We knew they were dirty. We had just spoke and established that as a problem we were trying to solve. Now, you and the management company are correct hat had you booked directly with them, my error would not have happened. You would have paid them an extra 15% though for the stay. That’s why folks like you and i go direct to owners on sites like this one - to save money. Unfortunately, I’m just a guy with a condo. It’s not my business and I’m not as good at managing it as the professionals you didn’t want to pay. That’s not an excuse or a license for me to make mistakes, it’s just color for you to consider in the future. As for not having heard from me “since”, I’m guessing you are meaning, literally you haven’t heard my voice since we have corresponded in writing via email. I’m truly sorry i caused you distress and embarrassment with your family, please pass this note along to them that there is no reason for them to think differently of you or for you to feel embarrassed for a mistake i made. Ok? Disclaimer for anyone reading, though - I’m a guy with a condo. There are professional organizations that you can rent through, but by definition that means you’re probably going to pay them.
The ocean view was great! We particularly enjoyed sitting on the balcony listening to and watching the birds as well as the beach. The condo is spacious and met our needs.
We were a family of 5 adults and 2 small kids and this was the perfect condo for us. The photos in the listing do not do this place justice. It was spacious and we all felt like we had enough room without being on top of each other. You can’t beat the location. Oceanfront with great views and right across the street from the local pizza place and Ben & Jerrys which we frequented. We love IOP because if you stay at this location you literally don’t have to drive anywhere except the grocery store which is about 1 mile away. My only critique would be to add an extra deadbolt or chain lock to the door for extra security and for our purposes...so our kids don’t open the front door. We will definitely be booking this condo again next year.
