Shuswap Hillside Hideaway

Overview

Property Details

Updated: Jul 22, 2016
House, 5 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, 10 Sleeps

The Hillside Hideaway features a steep driveway climbing up to a

private, commanding setting for the spacious 3000 square foot

home, perched on the hillside within a stone's throw of Shuswap Lake.

From there you are greeted with a stunning, panoramic, south facing

view of Mount Ida and the northern reaches of the Okanagan Valley.

An Osprey nests within 100' of the house, and local fisherman attest

to the ample fish in the area. Relax and watch the Osprey catch their

fill, then enjoy a steep stroll down the pathway and stairs to the

spacious beach deck or large sandy beach area. Each has it's own

built in firepit with firewood, and stone steps leading to its own wharf...

Both wharfs 24' x 8' and 30' x 8' 6', and the 2 bouy's allow ample

parking for boats...also included in the rent is a 12' aluminum

(fishing) boat with oars.

Not as expected, very disappointed.

Stayed here for 2 nights with adult family members. I was concerned when I found out the owner had new, monthly tenants in the home who would supposedly clean the place and vacate for the weekend prior to our arrival. The owner should have either waited until after our weekend rental or at least advised of this arrangement giving me the opportunity to book other accommodation.

There were ~30 cigarette buts on a plate on the deck, another plate used for dog food (can’t help but wonder what the other dishes in the kitchen have been used for and with no dishwasher to ensure they’re properly sanitized). Poor quality bed linens, some beds not made, others made, but very poorly, one with black marks on the bottom sheet. The kitchen was poorly equipped (could only find one very small cutting board and one dish cloth). The upstairs sofa had numerous stains. There wasn’t a towel in the place as the owner had accidentally locked them in a storage locker and we had to launder the new towels and sheets that a former caretaker brought over.

The house appears to be right on the lake, but it’s not, it’s across the road from the lake. Not a big deal for us, but it is somewhat misleading. The view is great, but I would not stay here again.

Owner's Response: In response to this persons complaint I gave them a rebate on their rent, along with a humble, heart felt apology... The monthly rental tenants who had great references have since been evicted for non-payment of rent. I made a mistake trusting them to have the place ready for the weekend renters for which I paid them half of the rent. Unfortunately, my caretaker was unable to check on the monthly renters preparation for the weekend renters, and straighten up as needed as had been planned. I do not normally rent in mid- September and will not be talked into off season/short term rentals in the future. It poured rain the whole weekend that they were there, which my have had a bearing on their complaint. I have rented the Shuswap Hillside Hideaway for 15 years, and this is the first complaint... Note: I recently purchased 9 sets of 600 thread count sheets...

Activity and Interests

Swimming in crystal clear water, waterskiing along a relatively

quiet beachfront, sunbathing on, or fishing off of the beach deck or

wharfs or sundecks. Admiring the panoramic view of Canoe Beach,

Mount Ida and the North end of the Okanagan Valley... A short jog,

walk or drive and check out the pristine coastal-like cedar grove

along the path to Margaret Falls- a must see with a camera + swim

suit for the brave to cool off in the cave behind the falls... A

short drive up a logging road to the stunning view of Shuswap lake

and area from the microwave tower atop of Bastion Mountain.
