About Lusha

My name is Lesia and Strathcona Cottage has been our family cottage for the last 25 years +. We decided in 2006 to make it into a Vacation Rental House so other families, like ourselves, could enjoy the wonderful warm summers in the lake or cozy up next to the wood burning stove in the fall and winter. I am intern architect that is slowed down my business to look after my young family.

Lusha purchased this cottage in 1982

Why Lusha chose Vancouver Island

Our family bought Strathcona Cottage many years ago from a potter. It took days to sweep all the dust out of the cottage so we could live in it. It was only a very small one bedroom cottage and my Father expanded to a two bedroom cottage with a larger kitchen. It was our family vacation home for years. In 2005 we decided to give it first renovation in years. Since then we have upgraded it every year. Shawnigan Lake is full of history and has changed so much over the years. We have been collecting items and show casing them to our guests of what it looked like in our area when Strathcona Lodge was at his peak.

What makes this cottage unique

What is unique to our vacation rental is that we recently found out that E.J. Hughes parents lived in our property as caretakers for the famous Strathcona Lodge as well as E.J. Huges himself lived in our other property next door and where he painted the majority of his works. How excited we were to find out about this as we are big fans of his work.

What I also like best about being in the cottage is looking out the windows in the back and seeing the tall trees. Especially, from the sky light. In the winter, it is so quiet on the lake. I find it is the best time just to chill and relax.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Great two week stay here! Beautiful, clean house.

Thanks! I'll be back!

Beautiful place! Highly recommended

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful place! Has the comfort of home and yet the feel of a cabin! Loved having access to the kayak and even tho the weather wasn't great the water was still calm enough to kayak in the rain.

Cabin is clean and well kept. Fully furnished with all amenities plus some. My son loved having access to kids movies for some evening down town after long days of exploring.

Old mill park has a beautiful public beach for kids to swim and play in the sand and is a few minute drive away from the cabin. Kinsol trestle and the kokshila river is a must see and Cowichan bay is the cutest little town nearby (25 min drive from cabin)

Overall our experience was positive and we hope to book again soon

Owner's Response: We are so happy your vacation at Strathcona Cottage was a great success for you and your family. We tried to give the cottage a cabin feel and we are glad you enjoyed it. We do have a large video library for children as well as adults. We are also lucky to be located in Strathcona Bay on Shawinigan Lake as it is much more calmer than the rest of the lake, with regards to boat traffic and wind etc, as it is perfect for kayaking and wild life viewing. We look forward to seeing you again in the near future. Sincerely, Lesia SLVR
