About SHIRLEY YOUNGBLOOD
Shirley is a nurse practitioner at Hiawassee Family Practice. Ronnie is retired from Rooster Youngblood Construction. He still does odd jobs. They have been married since 1974 and 2 boys Damon and John. They have 3 grandsons and one granddaughter. Both Ronnie and Shirley grew up in Hiawassee and never left.
Why SHIRLEY YOUNGBLOOD chose Hiawassee
This property was purchased in 1988 and started with a one room building. We added onto this room and made it into a one bedroom cabin and called it the Lil White House. Our son Damon lived in it for 5 years. He outgrew the Lil White House and we then got the idea to start renting it. We then decided to add onto the property and added Big Nate. We put 5 bathrooms in big Nate just by accident. That seems to be what makes Big Nate so popular! We then added Ms Natalie and because we were tired of cleaning bathrooms we only put 3 bathrooms in her and that was a mistake. She doesn't rent near as well. She is my favorite house. I guess it is because of the Big Porch at the bottom.
What makes this Cabin unique
Big Nate has 2 great porches top and bottom. There is ample room inside for all your guests. The outdoor fireplace is magnificenct! Ms. Natalie has 2 great porches to sit on and enjoy the lake. I especially like the bottom porch. She has a great patio and fireplace. The guest can enjoy great BBQs on this patio and enjoy the lake.

Big Nate is AWESOME! I highly recommend it. The house is great, the view is great, and the back yard and lake are great! Someone else posted that it was light on some of the supplies so I brought pots, pans, and cooking utensils. However there was no need, either the person didn't know what they were talking about, or its been stocked up. They had everything we needed to cook a HUGE Thanksgiving dinner. Heck, it even has two kitchens (if you rent the entire cabin), which was great for cooking our Thanksgiving feast! Thank you for creating a memorable Thanksgiving for our family!
Great property, NOT so great property owner
My husband is a youth Pastor and we took our youth group for a few nights. when we made the reservations months ago on VRBO we had 8 kids and 4 adults coming with us. At the last minute, we had a couple to add on and i emailed the owner to ask if i could bring air mattresses or even a small tent and she emailed back to say that would be fine. We ended up bringing an air mattress but no tent. Our assistant youth leader was at the house with the kids while we grocery shopped and the owner came and was extremely rude!! She called us liars, saying that we were supposed to have kids with us and that our children looked like grown adults. We have a 16 year old that is 6'6".... no one can help how big a kid is...she even questioned the children! She questioned if we knew the boating and life jacket safety rules and if we had life jackets for all the kids. We absolutely did, we are boaters, and long time visitors of Lake Chatuge and know the rules. My husband got back and tried to talk to the owner and she was rude to him as well, used profanity and called him a liar. We will NEVER rent from her again. Its a shame because the property is great. My husband and I rent at Chatuge several times a year and would have went back if the owner had of been more pleasant. Our youth group is a great group of kids who took excellent care of the house and treated the property with respect. We have taken them to many cabins and homes and this is the first negative review I have ever left. The only thing in the house that I would complain about would be that the blankets and bed spreads had hair all over them, they hadn't been washed and there were lots of cob webs and spiders in the corners. Kitchen could have been better stocked. We bought some bread pans and actually left them in the house when we left.
These people did not tell me they were bringing a youth group. She gave me the impression the tent and air mattress was for her children, not 12 adult sized teenage boys and girls and 6 adults for a four bedroom house. I had listed on my site that only 12 people were allowed. In the past the groups were separated the boys in one house and the girls in another house. I have 3 houses on the property. I explained to them our septic tank was not set up for that many people. I did not use profanity. After all they were a church group. Why would I use profanity. I am not stupid. I knew she would give me a bad rep. and I didn't even talk to her. Everything is hearsay for her. The young man got upset saying they weren't liars. I never accused him or the 19+ of lying. I just told the young man of 19+ I wasn't expecting a church bus full of teenage boys and girls for one house. When they kept insisting they weren't liars. I explained to them they lied to me by omission. I have had bad experiences with large groups of teenagers. Just like with this one. They tore the padding off the trampoline. We used to have hot tubs until we had a couple of groups of teenagers who brought in dirt and filth. There is always damage when you have a large group, mostly unintentional but it occurs just because of the size of the group. There were 12 teenagers and adults going out on one pontoon boat. It did not look safe to me and I questioned them about it. I think there is a weight limit. I noticed they didn't all go out on the boat all at one time after I questioned them. I might have saved someone's life. I am sure they were a great group of kids. But I know teenagers. The leaders themselves looked like they were 19-25. You had immature adults dealing with immature teenagers. I did not feel comfortable with the whole situation. I did let them stay. I could have made them leave. I didn't want to ruin the trip for the teenagers after they were here. But that wasn't good enough for them. They had to be good "Christians" and give be a bad rep. People like her are always looking for something wrong like the hair on the blanket and cobwebs. Reckon she has a hair on a blanket at home or a cobweb? You cannot always make people happy especially when they are looking for something wrong. Like I said good Christian people who give other Christians a bad rep. I have 16 other good reviews and she had to be the one to give the bad review. Will she show this to her pastor?
The house was beautiful, well-stocked, and extremely comfortable. We came for a wedding, and the house was perfect for all four adult couples for the entire weekend. We spent a lot of time out on the wonderful full porch overlooking the lake, which was beautiful as the leaves were turning.
We enjoyed our stay, and will definitely return to stay again.
