House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, Sleeps 10
Why Owner chose Garden City
We choose the name "The Gray Anchor" - The House is gray and the meaning of the anchor to us is a firm and secure home. We feel like once you stay at our home this will be the place you will want to return year after year. We have been remodeling each room to make your stay feel more like home.
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.

Home away from home
Really enjoyed our stay. Home is very nice and clean. Super close to beach! Property owner easy to contact, friendly, and available when needed.
It was a great place
I really enjoyed the property. Well taken care of and beachy.
An ok property with a nice golf cart! Watch out for "cleaning fees"
I decided to take a beach trip with some college friends and all our kids – 3 adults and 6 kids total including 3 toddlers. First of all this place is not particularly child friendly. There were toddler breakable decorations all over that I quickly moved out of the way (I should have taken pictures of their original locations as you'll soon learn). The house has obviously sustained some water damage. The floor is uneven and the master bathroom smells like mildew. I would have ignored all of this as the house isn't crazy expensive and I did genuinely enjoy the neighborhood and the nice golf cart. The problems – my friend’s toddler poured soap into the cable box (I’m not kidding!). We immediately called the owner, as stated in the rules, and he was polite and had us take the to the cable company where they replaced the box. My friend was so upset. Accidents happen with toddlers. That's why there is a deposit if we get fined I understand. No big deal. No fine for this but wait until you hear about the clean up. I made some mistakes on the long list of items we had to clean before we left including sweeping floors and cleaning bathrooms. I forgot to unload the dishwasher the last time and I left a drink in the fridge. I lost $175 because of this along with moving decorations and not putting comforters back on the beds perfectly (even though they needed to be washed and it wasn't listed in the cleaning checklist). When I got there I found a shoe under my bed and trash in my room. It didn't bother me too much although the owner has a "cleaning team" come in after people stay. I was fined for a granola wrapper and bottle tops inside a couch and love seat. I was also fined $50 because the “brand new” vacuum cleaner wheel was broken. My friend cleans houses for a living. This vacuum was worth less than $50 and nowhere near new. So unless you plan on spending your last two days cleaning a house that was messy when you arrived and you don’t have any kids skip this one! I'd rather have a nonrefundable cleaning deposit than get an email about moving breakable decorations and a "brand new" vacuum cleaner.
We are sorry that you were disappointed in our home but I would like to clarify some of your points. We do have decorations set throughout the house and are expected to be in the same spot when the house is inspected. Our rental agreement states several things which must be adhered to. The house has never had water damage and the bathroom does not have an odor of mildew. The floor is uneven in a couple places due to the home being modular, 2 sections, and over time some minor settling (built in 1981). We ask all renters to do minor cleaning, sweep and vacuum, clean out fridge and dishwasher, take all trash out, place comforters back on the beds as found (we do not provide linens) and rinse golf cart. If this is not done, we are charged an additional $125 cleaning fee above the fees we already must pay for cleaning and inspection. If we are charged then the renter is charged. The cleaning service does their best to keep things in order but when they have to go around and search for items to put back in place someone is paying for their time. We could just have raised our rates by $200 but we don’t due to the fact that we want families to have a great time at an affordable rate and have never had any issues in the past years and we have very good ratings. We also have several renters who come back year after year. As far as the vacuum cleaner, it was brand new and has now been replaced due to the damaged unit. We provide the necessary documentation and pictures to HomeAway when withholding a portion of someone’s security deposit. We have only had two instances of holding a portion of a deposit over the last several years and this was by far the largest amount. When you sign a rental agreement, you are signing a contract which needs to be upheld. We do not ask for anything more in ours as any other home in the community.
Perfect fit for my family
Very clean and well laid out floor plan. Plenty of space and even had a golf cart. My family really enjoyed our stay. The owners were extremely nice. Our vacation couldn't have gone any smoother. Will be booking again.
