Filthy, dusty, hanging cobwebs, did NOT love it
negatives--the place was very dirty, had to wash the shower before using it, the "sleeping" porch was moldy and filthy, chairs were unusable, coffee pot didn't heat the water, yard was strewn with trash, front sitting porch very dirty, "caretakers" were unavailable
positives--main sleeping bed very comfortable, lots of electrical outlets, airconditioner worked beautifully
Nice place to stay if you're looking for something different than a hotel. Location was good, just far away from hussle of town, yet still close enough if you needed to run to store or go to a restaurant. Loved that we were able to bring our pets. Will definitely be coming back.
Great place if you like dirt
I wish the Shamrock Cottage had been cleaner. I had previously read reviews about the cottage being dirty but I thought that surely the owner would have addressed this after previous complaints. I was miserable from allergies because of the dust and dirt. Dust and cobwebs on the hanging light fixtures, dust on the nick-nacks, on the shelves, dust on lampshades, edges and corners of the rooms, under the beds, and window sills. Also the patio could use a good blower treatment.
Upon arrival I noticed that the bathroom sink had toothpaste in it and an open tube with toothpaste oozing out of it. They simply did not clean the sink after the last guest had been there.
There was also a lot of "junk" inside and outside of the property. I think they make it hard on themselves to clean when they have too many unnecessary decoratives. The shamrocks add to theme, but they had ocean theme stuff, chinese things, Mexican things and other things. It was like a catch-all place to put things that they did not want in their home. Less would definitely be more.
Yes, it sleeps 7, if you don't mind 3 of those sleeping spots being in the summer heat on the open-air back porch. The place supplied 3 towels for our 5-day stay for our family of 4 adults. The refrigerator was too small and there was no toaster. The dish-drying rack was very dirty. Ewww.
The only comfortable seating was the couch. I could not find a comfortable place to use my laptop.
I was not given the correct wi-fi password. There was a posted sign of a different password. It was outdated. The listed phone number to contact the owner did not work. I had to ask around to get contact information of the owner to get the password.
The place could be a very charming place if the owner would invest a little more in it. If it was my place, I'd put a hot tub in the back screened-in area. It would be a nice romantic getaway for a couple, not a family with young adults.
Even after rain the creek was dry, much to our disappointment. We chose this venue because of the creek.
I had the opportunity to view the inside of the other rental space on the property - the lodge. It was so much cleaner. I felt like a forgotten step child.
We will not return primarily because we were treated like it did not matter whether we return or not. The dirt and cobwebs were a total insult.
The place was okay.
We really enjoyed it since it was our first time in Ingram & Kerrville. The place was okay we really liked the fact that it had a pool. Our kids played in the pool most of the time since we didn’t have access to the river. The bed was so comfortable and the water pressure in the shower was awesome! The view at night was beautiful! We were able to see so many stars. We also liked that it was so quiet at night. The things that can improve to give this place a five star would be a good cleaning. There was a lot of dirt and dust under and on the furniture. We couldn’t really sit outside on the patio because the chairs and tables were extremely dusty and dirty. We also had to buy a few utensils to bar bq. We either couldn’t find any or didn’t trust the ones there. There was also no instructions on what to do (Incase you ran out of clean towels) so I helped myself by washing the towels next door lol. The tv could also be updated. It’s pretty old but we made it work and didn’t really watched tv during the day.
Cute little cabin right across from the river
Cabin was clean and already cool when we arrived, Kitchen was sufficient for cooking breakfast, back patio is raised and offers a great view of the woods behind (watching lightning bugs all night was a real treat), Decor was very eclectic and cool, King size bed in main area was very comfortable, did not sleep on patio so hard to say but was comfortable enough to sit and watch natures fireworks show. Sufficiently stocked with towels, soap, and toiletries. Overall VERY pleased with our stay. If I had to make a complaint it would just be the outdated vcr/dvd combo and tube TV, but not a big deal as the last thing we were concerned with was watching TV.
Thank you for taking the time to post a review of your stay at Shamrock Cottage. We are working on an upgrade to our electronics. I have memories of watching the firefly show when I would spend the summer on the place. Hope to see you in the future.
