About Spencer Rand
Thistledown has been a family home for four generations. The Watts live in Florida, the Rands live in the DC area and Marcia lives in St. Louis, but we love to come back to Glen Arbor and the peaceful views of Lake Michigan and the Manitou Islands. We all enjoy getting together at Thistledown and making memories.
Spencer Rand purchased this House in 1972
Why Spencer Rand chose Glen Arbor
Once you come to Thistledown, you will be making lifetime memories. We love sharing it with families who appreciate how special are the Glen Arbor area and Sleeping Bear Bay. We have had family weddings, and many happy announcements of engagements and babies' arrivals at Thistledown.
What makes this House unique
We hope you will enjoy the views and the location as much as we do. It is just a few yards from the beach of Lake Michigan, yet close enough to walk into town for ice cream or shopping.
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
A week on the shores of the Inland Sea
Very well maintained classic A frame that fronts on Lake Michigan's Manitou Passage between the Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes and the town of Glen Arbor. A great place to kick-off your shoes and relax.
The home was perfect for a winter escape and imagine it would be equally wonderful in the summer.
The location and view truly could not have been better. The house has absolutely everything one would need to enjoy a wonderful holiday.
A Quiet Getaway
This is a special property that has been well cared for over the years.
Situated on the water the home is quite private, yet a short walk to town. Everything is very clean, and the well-stocked kitchen and outdoor gas grill made food preparation fun. (The array of spices were greatly appreciated!) Our group used the home as a base for bike rides, hikes, and touring. Swimming was quite cold, but we went in three times and loved it. The home's style is warm and welcoming, with a usable fireplace and outdoor fire pit. Stars galore at night. We all had a fabulous time at Thistledown would love to return one day.
We vacation every year there and in that rental. An absolute great experience every time.
Thistledown is a family gem that we feel privileged to be able to share. Look forward to it every year.
Thistledown was a great base for our week in Glen Arbor!
The house and beach were absolutely perfect to house us and family and friends for our wedding and vacation. The accommodations were lovely and the weather cooperated for all of the various activities we did in and around Glen Arbor.
We will hold this week fondly in our memories for many reasons and definitely look forward to again making Thistledown our base the next time we spend a week in Glen Arbor!
A little bit of everything !
Six days of peace, quiet and tranquility.......with a touch of every kind of weather....started with a very cool north breeze, to a very grey Michigan day, to sunny blue skies like the picture of the bay, to even some humidity late in week with temps hitting 80 plus in May and to finish the stay the last eve....with a grand finale of a 5 plus hour lake thunderstorm overnight with lightening that would never stop....all with a priceless view from the home. It’s cozy, comfy and all you can ask for in a lakefront rental home. The only downside was the intense invasion of the “midges”.....as they were everywhere all day and night all week long.....and nothing deters them. Look forward to being able to return again for another dose of up north MI......thank you to all in the family for allowing others to share this wonderful experience !
