Overview

About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, Sleeps 7

We would love to share our 'Up North' getaway with people who

appreciate a well kept home with full amenities. As you stroll down

our winding driveway, watch for the deer and wildlife in the woods.

When you're finished taking in the view of Lake Michigan and the

Manitou Islands from the living room, step outside to the patio and

head down the boardwalk through the sandy dune grasses and

wildflowers to our own private beach on Sleeping Bear Bay on Lake

Michigan.

Our 4 bedroom, 3 bath home is within walking distance of Glen Arbor

(1/2 mile). The master bedroom, with a lovely view of the lake and

the Manitou Islands, includes a king size bed and a private bath.

Also on the lower level are two other bedrooms, one with two twin

beds and the other with one twin bed, which share a bathroom.

Upstairs is a bedroom with two twin beds, a twin futon (best for young teen or child) and a

bathroom. The home includes new flooring throughout

Thistledown is located 30 minutes from Traverse City, the Cherry

Capital of the Midwest. The Traverse City Airport offers service

from several major airlines. And of course, for your cherry product

needs, walk or bike into town to The Cherry Republic.

About Ann Rand

Thistledown has been a family home for several generations. Dave and Ann live in Florida most of the year, but we love to come back to Glen Arbor and the peaceful views of Lake Michigan and the Manitou Islands. Marcia lives in St. Louis and loves getting together with her family in Glen Arbor. We all enjoy getting our family together at Thistledown and making memories.

Ann Rand purchased this house in 1972

Why Ann Rand chose Northern Michigan

Our home has been used by four generations now, including our parents, now us, our children and our grandchildren. We love sharing it with families who appreciate how special the Glen Arbor area is. We have had family weddings, and many happy announcements of engagements and babies' arrivals at Thistledown.

What makes this house unique

We hope you will enjoy the views and the location as much as we do. It is just a few yards from the beach of Lake Michigan, yet close enough to walk into town for ice cream or shopping.

Guestbook comments from the owner

2 1/2 year old Clara (our granddaughter) had a wonderful time at Thistledown! A few weeks after arriving back home, she asked her daddy, "Daddy, where's Michigan? I NEED MY Michigan!" Yes, Clara, we all feel that way!

Beautiful Vacation

  • 5 of 5

Thistledown is a wonderful cottage with a beautiful setting directly on Lake Michigan. It is about a half mile to the quaint town of Glen Arbor.

THE VIEW!!!!!

  • 5 of 5

The location of this home ON Lake Michigan is stunning. The home itself is top notch-----comfy and well equipped. Being close to town is a huge plus. We enjoyed the beach, Sleeping Bear Dunes, night time fires (and s'mores), and walking to Cherry Republic. Ann was wonderful to work with; timely communications and easy key transfer. A great rental. Thanx Rands (and Martins) for sharing Thistledown.

The high point of our summer

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I have vacationed at Thistledown for almost ten years. We had tried various other spots on the Leelanau, but until Thistledown we had not found such an excellent combination of view, location, amenities and landlord. The house is a very clean, well maintained A frame only a few hundred feet from the shore of Lake Michigan, with a spectacular view of the lake, the sand dunes and the Manitou islands.

The town of Glen Arbor is a ten minute walk / 2 minute drive away. There are a number of good to excellent restaurants in town, plus a coffee shop, a grocery, a book store, art galleries and an 'all things cherry' emporium (Cherry Republic). Should you be a bit more adventurous, the sand dunes are a short drive in the other direction.

And be sure to bring your camera - the sunsets over Lake Michigan will take your breath away.

Everything you need to enjoy the Glen Arbor area. Great living room for relaxing, reading, monopoly games, fires in the fireplace, with the most beautiful view! Comfortable furniture and all the supplies you'll need. Beach walking, camp fires by the beach! We would go back in a minute!

  • 5 of 5

A nice cottage just down the shore from Sleeping Bear Dunes. Cottage has a nice layout and a beautiful view. All you need are towels and food, this is a great place to stay and enjoy the cottage on the shore or have as a base for exploring the area.
