Bliss, defined

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a magical three days of R&R at Cedar Lodge. We did our homework in advance, so we thought we knew what to expect from the photos and description of the property. As it turned out, it is exactly as advertised -- plus. The "plus" includes all the special touches provided by the owners: a fully stocked refrigerator and pantry -- with a note telling us to "enjoy -- no charge!" (And we did.) The cabin includes comfortable beds and a large bathroom. It also has a washer and dryer, but our stay was brief so we didn't need it. We also didn't use the fireplace because it is summer, but the fire was laid out and ready to go. We were surprised to find a piano in the living room which should appeal to the musically inclined (sadly, we aren't.) We do read, however, and there is a well-stocked library in the hallway. The highlight of the cabin is the large wrap-around deck surrounded with a canopy of trees and a large glass umbrella table with six comfortable chairs. A bird feeder at the far end of the deck kept us busy watching myriad birds swoop in throughout the day for sustenance. There are innumerable hiking trails nearby and one quaint restaurant for breakfast and lunch, but we used it only once, preferring instead to stay put. Cedar Lodge provides what so many of us miss and need: quiet. We soaked it up for three days, and are better for it. A random encounter with the owners (who live on the hill above) was the proverbial icing on the cake: they are kind and caring people with fascinating stories of their own. We left thinking we had made new friends for life and are already looking ahead to our next visit.

Owner's Response: First, thank you for this fantastic review! We are happy when our guests enjoy our mountain hideaway as much as we do. Your visit was in the heat of the summer, and we're hoping to see you again come autumn, winter, and spring to see which season is your favorite. So fun getting to know you. We look forward to seeing you both again soon. -The Kappelers

Great Getaway with Excellent Hospitaliy

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful cabin home just minutes away from Redlands and San Bernardino. It's clean, well maintained, and a perfect place to get away from busy city life for a while. The owners are extremely hospitable, and made our stay a wonderful relaxing experience. We plan on booking here again!

Perfect mountain cabin

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was just as described and worked perfectly for our little family of 3. We were in the area for a wedding, so we didn't have time to explore the surrounding area too much, but enjoyed our time at Cedar Lodge. It was a nice touch that Mardee and Jon provided breakfast for us--one less thing to worry about. Also, appreciated that they made sure we made it up the mountain and had settled in. Thanks!

Clean and comfortable with a great balcony

  • 5 of 5

The owners provide a lot of extras that make their well-stocked cabin very comfortable. We had one wonderful day just hanging out on the large, private balcony. Very impressed.

Lovely home

The home was well maintained and stocked. We enjoyed our stay. Would have given 5 stars, but couldn't in all good conscience. But the house itself is a 5 star⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Owner's Response: Hmmm, this review is given by guests who left the cabin uninhabitable for at least a week while we bring it back up to our standards of cleanliness. After bringing in 6 people and 5 cats and dogs on 2/27 and leaving at our request on 3/14, and after abandoning their animals for a weekend of fun in Mexico, today the cabin finally looks and smells clean again. We still have carpets and furniture cleaning on Monday, and the cleaners return cushions and pillows on Wednesday. But we are so grateful to Teresa, our awesome friend and housekeeper, for getting us to a point where we can now rent the cabin again.
