My Second Home in Villas

  • 5 of 5

This was a repeat visit in what I hope will be a recurring event for me. With family who have moved to the Cape May area, I am in Villas several times a year for holidays and special events. Having reached a stage in my life where it is no longer exotic or adventurous to sleep on an air mattress in the middle of relatives' homes, I found this fabulous little cottage online, and the rest is history.

With a décor that is airy, spacious, and Pottery-Barn-Meets-Beach, I have spent a number of restful nights in this space. The cottage is ideally located just a few steps from the beach and the "main drag" of Villas. It is very tranquil, and equipped with everything a person could need during a vacation. From kitchenware to restaurant menus to baskets of toiletries, I routinely marvel at the convenience and comfort. Every time I lock up to leave at the end of a visit, I find myself saying, "I wish I could stay longer."

The owner (Amy) is an absolute dream to work with. Attentive and responsive, yet never intrusive, she always makes me feel welcome. As other reviews have mentioned, I look forward every trip to the very thoughtful bottle of wine and beautiful bay sunsets.

I also have to say that the beds are incredibly comfortable. As someone who never sleeps well in unfamiliar settings, I consistently get a great night's rest in either of the two beds. Other family members seeking to escape the din of the holidays have taken advantage of the accommodations and shared similar feedback.

At the risk of creating competition for my visit timeframes, I highly recommend you check out this property. You'll be very glad you did!

Owner's Response: Amy, thank you so much for the kind words and the thoughtfully written review! It is always a pleasure to have you stay at the cottage. We love our many repeat guests who, like you, have become friends over the years. It's what makes sharing our cottage so much fun. Thanks again... see you next visit!

Great location, close to activities and the beach is down the street. The cottage was spotless.

  • 5 of 5

This cottage was in a great spot a block from the beach. Short drive to activities, restaurants, and ice cream. Fenced in yard which the dog loved. The cottage was spotless and the owner answered all of my questions thru email really quickly. I recommend this cottage, this owner, and going to watch the sunsets everyday at the beach at the end of the street.

Everything was great. The home was exactly as it was advertised. The owners clearly did some updates recently and used the space well. They clearly think about their renters needs. Everything we could have needed was in the home. Very clean and orderly. The neighborhood was very quiet and a two block walk to the beautiful sunset. The yard was a great size for our dogs. I would just caution anyone with larger dogs to be careful of the gate since it it not very high. But it was sturdy and def. kept our dogs in. Overall this was a perfect 1st time experience with this home and we would def.come back again.

few small improvements needed

  • 4 of 5

What does it mean, "walk to the beach?" Unless you are considering the Bay beach. We stayed on Wilde Avenue, which was a lovely little cottage. However, in many ways it was a disappointment. 1). the awful heating grate in the middle of the floor. Our Lab was petrified, wouldn't go from living area to back door due to fear. My husband accidentally stepped on it and injured his foot, twice. Both times, it was in the middle of the night on way to bathroom. This grate was not featured in any photos of the cottage. 2) poor lighting...I had difficulty reading because of it. I was willing to.go out and purchase a good floor lamp but we really did not have room in the car. 3) the front step was very high for me, at least the middle one. My husband was fine with it. 4). this was probably the linens nor towels. It was another expense to rent them. Added to all the other charges, it wasn't easy for us since my husband, who owns a Landscaping Business, doesn't work in the Winter months. Other than that, that area was very nice. The enclosed yard was a true blessing. Beds were comfortable. Kitchen has all good working appliances.

Clean, convenient and quaint cottage, perfect!

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and I had a great and relaxing time staying at this cottage while visiting Cape May for my daughters cheer competition. It was convenient to the different places in the area and we loved coming back to the cottage to relax and sleep comfortably at the end of the night. Everything was laid out as far as activities, restaurants and things to do in the area in an organized way. I would love to come back to the area and stay here!

Walk to the Bay beach and watch the sandpipers run up and down the sand, or flip a few horseshoe crabs who have lost their way. Swim or sun or even bring your rod & reel and fish right from the beach. Head in to Cape May if you wish to swim at the guarded beaches.

**Enjoy the use of four Cape May beach tags during your stay!**

Feel like shopping? Hop in the car and in 10 minutes you'll find yourself in downtown Cape May where you can check out the Washington Street Mall or the beach shops. While there take in an historic house tour, rent bikes, take a carriage ride or simply stroll and enjoy the scenery. Like antiquing? Hop back in the car and you're sure to find plenty.

Getting hungry? Check out any one of Cape May's plentiful restaurants. An old favorite is the Lobster House, enjoy cocktails on the schooner out back while waiting for your table. The Mad Batter serves up a wonderful brunch on their front porch. The Blue Pig at Congress Hall has great outdoor seating. And if you feel like splurging, make a reservation (before you come!) for Tisha's on the mall. The food is fabulous, and it's a BYOB so bring your favorite bottle of wine.

Closer to the cottage, and right on the Bay is Harpoons on the Bay. This popular local spot is great place to grab a quick lunch. Or better yet, grab a chair on the deck, order a cocktail, enjoy the live music, and watch the sunset over the Bay. It can be breathtaking and we think it's a fantastic way to spend an evening at the shore!

For the serious golfer in the group, you'll find several challenging golf courses within a half hour drive. For the not so serious golfer, you'll find a driving range and a par 3 course just down the road from the cottage. And for the miniature golfers, there are a couple of local places and also a few in Cape May.

Birdwatchers and nature lovers you are in paradise here, but you already know that! Enjoy the Cape May Bird Observatories, Cape May Point State Park, Higbee Beach, Cape May Migratory Bird Refuge (Cape May Meadows), Nummy Island, Stone Harbor Point, Avalon Seawatch, and Belleplain State Forest.

Party boats, dolphin & whale watching tours, charter fishing excursions and boat rentals are just a short drive from the cottage. Or how about an afternoon at the Cape May Zoo, Historic Cold Spring Village or touring the local lighthouses? The possibilities are endless!

And don't forget about Wildwood! 15 minutes and you'll be on the boardwalk enjoying all that the shore has to offer including amusement rides and water parks.
