Wonderful Thanksgiving weekend!
My family & our dog spent 4 days exploring Cape May & surrounding areas. The bay beach is roughly 3 short blocks away & Cape May is a very short drive. We spent time walking the beach with Sam, who LOVED it, visited Cape May Brewing, a great little spot, Cold Springs Village & Cold Springs Brewing (right on your route to Capy May), & enjoyed sunset at Cape May Point.
We had some fantastic meals, especially on Thanksgiving at the Peter Shields Inn. Their food was exceptional, as was the atmosphere & service. Also enjoyed a bite at the Boiler Room, in the basement of the Congress Hotel. Never would have known about it without Yelp however! Great place, friendly staff, very good pizza.
The rest of our meals we had at the cottage & Amy made sure we had everything we needed. It was very cozy & we even enjoyed a complimentary bottle of wine & some very addictive candies! I loved finding the basket of toiletries in the bathroom closet in case we forgot anything. Very nice touch.
The cottage was clean & everything worked as it should. It is very small but for our small family it was fine. There is a huge, fenced in yard (another perk for Sam) & an enclosed front porch.
I would definitely recommend staying here & hope I have the opportunity again in the future. Thank you Amy!
A wonderful stay!
We loved this cottage. It was immaculate, well-stocked and so comfortable. The owner is very thoughtful, providing everything you might need and more. The neighborhood is quiet, friendly, close to restaurants and shopping, and a short walk to the beach. We hope to come back next year.
The Perfect Cottage - Comfortable and Relaxing
We wanted to experience a new area in South Jersey, and wanted something quiet and comfortable, and this turned out to be exactly what we were hoping for. From the moment we walked in, we felt at home. It is the perfect size for a small family. We loved the enclosed front porch and particularly the back deck where I would sit every morning with a cup of coffee watching the birds in the yard. The yard is quite large and the overhead trees and quiet surroundings make it very relaxing. We even had a few friends over for a cookout, and we were all quite comfortable. The kitchen was very functional and the quality appliances and dinnerware certainly came in handy.
I particularly loved the beach down the street, and actually preferred walking down the street to the quiet beach on the bay instead of driving to Cape May's beach. It was incredibly relaxing and such a pleasure having the beach to myself, and I had the pleasure of catching a few wonderful sunsets as well! I also brought my bicycle along and the quiet neighborhood was great for a relaxing bike ride.
The video library, books and binder of information about the area were also very helpful and much appreciated. We rented the cottage two separate weeks, and I plan to return again next summer. I would definitely recommend it to others.
Perfectly manicured and well kept. Beautiful!
We were pleasantly surprised by arriving to a bottle of wine and candy. A short walk to the Bay and the beach was beautiful. I can only imagine how nice it will be when we are able to re-visit in the summer and use the spacious furnished deck. The beds were comfortable and the decor was inviting and relaxing. We didn't need a thing. Everything was there to cook and even do laundry! We will definitely return. This is our new Go-to place for Cape May.
Lovely cottage! Tastefully decorated and cozy surroundings. Went down for a wine weekend and was able to secure this cute house with no problem on short notice. Owner was a pleasure to work with. House is conveniently located to get to the Cape May "points of interest" as well as many wineries. Owner even provides a book with surrounding info...great help for those that don't know the area.
A nice summer home away from home!
Francine et Robert (Montréal Canada)
This was our first visit to this home and to Cape May area. It is always stressful to rent via internet but Mrs. Amy was patient and answered our questions and sent written contracts and made the renting process pleasant. Thank you. Even open to suggestions. The photos and commodities are as said and many little extras too and some personal touches.
As so many, we have become fearful of renting due to wide spread bed bug problem but here the home was clean and well decorated and in a respectful manner we left it very clean and in good order. We liked the agreement that a manager checks the home in between each renter and remains available if problems.
Closed in front porch is great to sit , read a book, chat with glass of wine. Cannot comment on futon as a bed as did not use it but wondering if awakened early if sleeping there as no blinds present for sunlight and privacy? All those big open windows bring such a nice breeze! Great big lot and we were very happy to find immediate neighbours very quiet. Very nice back porch with a place to dine and sit. We did suggest if possible an umbrella over table as it can get very hot. Bedrooms are comfortable and it was great to have a dishwasher and washer dryer with even soaps offered. Loved that we could use or not the AC at our discretion and ceiling fans useful too.
We loved the quiet beach at the end of the street to relax in the evening and when no clouds to watch beautiful sunsets. Found other very nice beaches and found people to be friendly and more respectful of other people's space than in other areas. Toured around by car, some nice Victorian homes in Cape May (many with ghost stories)and missed the tour of the big mansion (noon and 1300hrs). We visited the Zoo...very nice and great that it is free!
It is a short distance by car to beaches once you find your way and its nice to come back to a quiet area. Found a bigger grocery store not very far.
We came to unwind and take in the music of the waves, the appeasing breeze, the childlike fun of walking feet in the water, looking for nice rocks, shells and of course the famous...Cape May diamonds!!! Regardless of the 10 to 12 hour drive we would certainly rent again and hope to bring our grandson some day. After all, we need to return to read those books provided on ghost stories!!!
Activity and Interests
Walk to the Bay beach and watch the sandpipers run up and down the sand, or flip a few horseshoe crabs that have lost their way. Swim or sun or even bring your rod & reel and fish right from the beach. Head in to Cape May if you wish to swim at the guarded beaches.
**Enjoy the use of four Cape May beach tags during your stay!**
Feel like shopping? Hop in the car and in 10 minutes you'll find yourself in downtown Cape May where you can check out the Washington Street Mall or the beach shops. While there take in a historic house tour, rent bikes, take a carriage ride or simply stroll and enjoy the scenery. Like antiquing? Hop back in the car and you're
sure to find plenty.
Getting hungry? Check out any one of Cape May's plentiful restaurants. An old favorite is the Lobster House, enjoy cocktails on the schooner out back while waiting for your table. The Mad Batter serves up a wonderful brunch on their front porch. The Blue
Pig at Congress Hall has great outdoor seating. And if you feel like splurging, make a reservation (before you come!) for Tisha's on the mall. The food is fabulous, and it's a BYOB so bring your favorite bottle of wine.
Closer to the cottage, and right on the Bay is Harpoon Henry's. This popular local spot is great place to grab a quick lunch. Or better yet, grab a chair on the deck, order a cocktail and watch the sunset over the Bay. It can be breathtaking and we think it's a fantastic way to spend an evening at the shore!
For the serious golfer in the group, you'll find several challenging golf courses within a half hour drive. For the not so serious golfer, you'll find a driving range and a par 3 course just down the road from the cottage. And for the miniature golfers, there are a couple of local places and also a few in Cape May.
Birdwatchers and nature lovers you are in paradise here, but you already know that! Enjoy the Cape May Bird Observatories, Cape May Point State Park, Higbee Beach, Cape May Migratory Bird Refuge (Cape May Meadows), Nummy Island, Stone Harbor Point, Avalon Seawatch, and Belleplain State Forest.
Party boats, dolphin & whale watching tours, charter fishing excursions and boat rentals are just a short drive from the cottage. Or how about an afternoon at the Cape May Zoo, Historic Cold Spring Village or touring the local lighthouses? The possibilities are endless!
And don't forget about Wildwood! 15 minutes and you'll be on the boardwalk enjoying all that the shore has to offer including amusement rides and water parks.
