About the Owner

Our wedding was in the front yard of this property--35 years ago. We have offered Puget View Cottage for many years, initially as a bed and breakfast, and as a vacation rental for about eight years. We have met many wonderful people from around the world, and look forward to adding you to our list of former guests.

During 2012 and '13 we traveled overseas, completing many long distance hikes we had long dreamed of doing---the Coast to Coast Trail in England, West Highland Way, The Camino across northern Spain, Walker's Haute Route from Chamonix to Zermatt, Kilimanjaro and a safari (and two months of volunteering in the Burundi :) Two months in the hinterlands of Nepal, a summit of Fuji in Japan, and JMT and Whitney in California---whew! In 2014 we completed our final leg of the Pacific Crest Trail in Washington.

We look forward to sharing the magic of this peaceful, beautiful part of the world--with you!

A Setting That Just Breathes Relaxation

  • 5 of 5

Arrived feeling the stresses of daily life, and left 3 days later feeling refreshed and ready for the next round (though sad we had to leave)

The refreshment began the moment we pulled into the driveway. The grounds are well kept and give the sense of a peaceful garden. Then you see the view of the expansive Puget Sound with the Olympic Mountains in the distance, and just breathe a sigh of contentment.

The quaint cottage is placed on a bluff with a small manicured yard out front. The grassed area is nicely equipped with your own private chairs, a picnic table and a hammock.

When you walk inside a large front window gives you an immediate view of the Sound. Found ourselves staring at that view repeatedly. To help with that, the owners have left a pair of binoculars there for you. Nice touch!

The place itself is small but cozy, and is just perfect for two people who just want to relax. It is equipped with many well thought out amenities such as welcoming snacks in the kitchen area, books and games to enjoy, kayaks available for your use and a fire pit with wood down near the water's edge. Though we didn't take advantage of the latter two this time, it was nice to have them available.

Owners live on the property and are very welcoming and friendly. No worries about privacy though. Though available if you need them, they leave you to enjoy the grounds and are no bother. You feel like it's your place.

Don't miss out on a walk in nearby Tolmie State Park and a visit to the Nisqually Nature Reserve. Both add to the relaxation theme.

Lots more to share, but overall a winner for us.

Definitely coming back!!

Cozy and beautiful

  • 4 of 5

Our hosts, Dick and Barb, were very gracious hosts. We knew they were there should we have any need. I did think that the cabin could have benefitted from at least one more blanket for the sofa bed, or an afghan or throw to wrap up on while on the couch. We were just a stone's throw from Tolme State Park and enjoyed the walk on the beach. So many birds including a bald eagle! This was so much better than a hotel room to visit with my Washington family!

Perfectly Wonderful Anniversary Trip

  • 5 of 5

Being our first trip to Washington, we wanted to see and do many things. It was also our 30th Anniversary, so we wanted a trip that was celebratory and peaceful to mark this major milestone for us. The Puget View Cottage was the perfect place.

The cottage is wonderfully located so we were able to visit fun sites in Seattle, to hike around and enjoy the majestic beauty of Mount Rainer Park, and to tour the many port towns and islands along the Puget Sound. The simple kitchenette was well stocked and easy to use to create lunches for our daily outings or nice dinners. Each morning, the beautiful view and wildlife watching was a wonderful compliment to our morning coffee and breakfast we made. The host Dick and Barbara are very gracious and kind, creating a relaxing atmosphere and provided recommendations for outings or special extras to the places we had planned to go.

This was such a great trip, we hope we can come back again for more fun and relaxation.

Compact Cottage on Puget Sound

  • 5 of 5

My son and I stayed for five nights. It's a tiny, quiet cottage but very comfortable. We cooked meals most days, and did quite well. No oven, but two gas burners, a microwave, toaster oven, and a small bar-b-q on the deck. The bed was comfortable, and my son said he slept OK on the pull-out bed. The shower was great, plenty of hot water. The views are stupendous, with two kayaks available on the beach below. Tolmie State Park is a 5 minute walk, and a great place for hikes. Olympia is a 20 minute drive. The Yunkers are great hosts, friendly and very helpful. Don't miss the nearby Nisqually Wildlife Preserve

Awesome birthday getaway!

  • 5 of 5

my husband and I planned a very last minute getaway to celebrate my 47th birthday. When I say last minute, I mean it. We booked this gem of a place the day before we went. I was soooooo glad we found something so lovely and easy to get to. We live in Seattle, so this was the perfect nearby getaway, where it was easy to drive to, but felt worlds away. It was quiet, quaint and had a breathtaking view! The hosts were the perfect balance of attentive and invisible. :) It abuts a state park that has some nice easy walks and waterfront access. AND the hosts let you borrow their kayaks and life jackets to sail around the Sound just below the property, for no additional charge!

We will definitely go back sometime!

Wonderful Cottage!

  • 5 of 5

We loved this cottage, with its splendid views of the South Sound and Olympic Mountains (especially nice at sunset), great access to the beach and Tolmie State Park, dreamy hammock and great locations. It was very restful and relaxing, like an old-fashioned beach holiday.

For long stays like we had (two weeks), access to the laundry and better Internet connections would have been great. (The log house has laundry and the Internet router, so the cottage doesn't have laundry access and you need to perch in front of the log house to get an Internet signal.)

Strongly recommend!!

Dick is from Oregon, Barb from Alaska. We met here, never dreaming we would stay this long, but why would we want to live anywhere else? Especially when Barb says 'this is like Alaska, but you don't need a float plane to enjoy it.'

Amenities

From the Owner

Even after so many years, we continue to be inspired daily by the up-close fly-by of an eagle, the majesty of a summer sunset, or the mystery of fog silently lifting. It's easy to be overwhelmed with gratitude in the midst of such a glorious setting---the spirit of this place.
