About Barbara and Dick Yunker

Our wedding was in the front yard of this property in 1980. We have offered Puget View Cottage for many years, initially as a bed and breakfast, and as a vacation rental for about eight years. We have met many wonderful people from around the world, and look forward to adding you to our list of former guests.

During 2012 and '13 we traveled overseas, completing many long distance hikes we had long dreamed of doing---the Coast to Coast Trail in England, West Highland Way, The Camino across northern Spain, Walker's Haute Route from Chamonix to Zermatt, Kilimanjaro and a safari (and two months of volunteering in the Burundi :) Two months in the hinterlands of Nepal, a summit of Fuji in Japan, and JMT and Whitney in California---whew! In 2014 we completed our final leg of the Pacific Crest Trail in Washington.

We look forward to sharing the magic of this peaceful, beautiful part of the world--with you!

Barbara and Dick Yunker purchased this cottage in 1978

Why Barbara and Dick Yunker chose Olympia

Dick is from Oregon, Barb from Alaska. We met here, never dreaming we would stay this long, but why would we want to live anywhere else? Especially when Barb says 'this is like Alaska, but you don't need a float plane to enjoy it.'

What makes this cottage unique

Even after so many years, we continue to be inspired daily by the up-close fly-by of an eagle, the majesty of a summer sunset, or the mystery of fog silently lifting. It's easy to be overwhelmed with gratitude in the midst of such a glorious setting---the spirit of this place.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Dear Brbara and Dick, The spectacular view of Puget Sound, the immaculate grounds and cottage all say that there is something magical about this place. Then you find delicious homemade whole wheat banana bread and comfy knitted booties and other goodies waiting to be discovered. Your hospitality is outstanding! Your kindness and thoughtfulness is truly appreciated and will be remembered. Thank you for sharing your place on God's earth. Dr.A and L, PA

Amazing View - So relaxing, and cute cottage

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is small, so if you are looking for a lot of space it may not be ideal. However, it was very clean and cute and was enough for my family of four. Then, you walk out back and the yard and view are truly breath-taking. We spent a total of 5 nights and throughly enjoyed sitting in the evening or mornings just watching the wild life and panoramic view. The kids (6 & 8) loved walking the tire trail down to the beach and so many adventures flipping over rocks and finding all the creatures. We didn't make use of kayaks or fire pit down on the beach due to time restraints, but would have loved to! The owners were so accommodating and wonderful short-term neighbors during our stay. It is about a 15-20 minute drive to Olympia, with access to many restaurants and shops. We would love to come back again next year!

Precious cottage on Puget Sound

  • 5 of 5

We had the pleasure of recently staying at the Puget View Cottage. It was everything we expected and more. The cottage was beautiful, quaint and cozy with extraordinary views of the Puget Sound and a lovely garden plus several well-placed sitting areas. We loved having the ability to walk down to the beach to explore, as well as having Tolmie Park next door for 'wooded strolls'. Dick and Barbara were excellent, thoughtful hosts - greeting us with a light continental breakfast for our first morning, loaning us some walking sticks and leaving us a farewell basket for noshing while we drove to the airport. We hope to come back soon to enjoy this quiet little cottage.

A perfect getaway spot!

  • 4 of 5

Quaint and quiet, this is a wonderful place to come and unwind. We enjoyed the fruit and muffins placed for our first breakfast, it was so thoughtful. We loved sitting out front and watching the peacefulness of Puget Sound. From the visits from the nice neighborhood cat to the many hummingbirds that frequent Dick and Barbara's feeders, I would recommend this getaway spot!
