Beautiful, comfortable cottage with the best views on Keuka Lake

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed at "Kismet" this summer and couldn't have loved it more. This comfortable, just enough "rustic" cottage was perfect for us. The wrap around porch with comfy furniture and fantastic dock is where we spent most of our time. Since we had two families (one with younger children), the adjoining rooms were a great fit! There are two front bedrooms (not adjoining) have absolutely fantastic views of the lake . The three other bedrooms adjoin but have doors to separate each. There is only one bedroom that you have to walk through another to get to--again perfect for little ones! The kitchen is well stocked with everything you would need for meals, entertaining, etc. My only suggestion... a new coffee pot may be in order. It worked but the basket can fall out easily. The dock is amazing with a boat house and sheltered swimming area for little ones. The proximity to Hammondsport (10 mins) gave us the ability to run into town for odds and ends as well as spend some time browsing the shops. And, we did walk to the Switz for dinner one night...another huge plus for location. If you are looking for a suburban-like house then this may not be the cottage for you, but if you are looking for a beautiful, comfortable cottage in classic Keuka lake style, then you will love it. All in all, we will definitely be back to Kismet! I

avoid this 1920s house

  • 1 of 5

We stayed on this vacation house for a week. Here is our experience:

1. The house is old (or antique, as the owner described) inside. None of the door could be closed properly with the exception of the bathrooms. There are noises from the doors when they are opened and closed. It's not a big deal in the day time. But it could be a nightmare if you are a light sleeper like me.

2. It is a five bedroom house. However, three of them are connected. The person who lives in the middle need to exit the room through other bedrooms. I don't think it can be called a five bedroom house with this room layout.

3. There is bug issue on the first floor. The extra large ants showed up every day when we were there. It could be disgusting...

The house is located on a nice location. The porch and deck are in good shape.

Owner's Response: Being a beautiful 1920's house, we like to keep everything as original as possible. We have committed renters who love our home and come back each year. Doors squeak whether they are old or new, that is not a big issue at all. There are 5 spacious bedrooms upstairs. A lot of room to accommodate a big family. The location is the best on the lake. The deck, dock and swimming area are perfect. We enjoy hosting and renting our beautiful summer home and we only hope you appreciate it as much as we have for the past many, many years. If you have any questions please feel free to email me at anytime.
