Why Tom Lyon chose Sarasota

Our refurbished 'Old Florida - Vintage Pool Home' in Ballantine Manor is located in a residential neighborhood half a block from Sarasota Bay. The home with guest cottage is a unique property that was considered by many in the late 1950's and early 1960's to be the suburbs of a flourishing downtown Sarasota. Our home and guest cottage has been totally restored to its original grandeur with all modern amenities one would expect in the 21st century.

What makes this house unique

A large 30' x 60' heated inground swimming pool provides a place to enjoy privacy and relax from the either the winter 'blahs' or a day of family exploration or adventure. The original plaster ceilings and hardwood floors in the living and dining rooms add grace and charm to this vintage home. The French doors from the dining room and master bedroom lead down steps to the pool/courtyard. A large screen porch has tables, benches and chairs for relaxing, reading, or shelter from the sun. The chaise lunge chairs provide comfort for sunning, snoozing, conversing or relaxing - all in a private setting. There is a fenced area behind the cottage for dogs brought by their owners and staying in the guest cottage.

A family gathering can be easily accommodated when renting both the house and guest cottage. When the house and guest cottage are rented together, there are a total of 4 bathrooms, 2 kitchens, 3 bedrooms in addition to a single hide-a-bed in the cottage and a single rollaway.

Our property is located less than 1 mile from the Powel Crosley Estate and 1 mile from the Ringling Art Museum and Asolo Repretory Theater that offers a variety of live theater performances throughout their season.

There are numerous restaurants, convenience stores and shopping areas within 2 - 3 miles. The opening of the Mall at University Town Center will have a multitude of upscale retailers, sit down restaurants, along with major anchor stores. The Ellenton Premium Outlet is about a 30 minute drive and offers 130 well known retailers.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I just wanted to say Thank you for everything. We have had a wonderful stay at your property!"

Great stay!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here the last week of June. Property was exactly as described. Beautiful house, well kept. Even though only 2 BR, they are very spacious. The courtyard to the pool area is great. Very private. If you have pets, make sure the gate is closed every morning, as the landscaper is in and out. Margaret was extremely nice and very accommodating. Everything as neat as a pin and would definitely stay here again.

Owner's Response: We proud ourselves with having a home that makes a perfect get-a-way with cleanliness, attention to detail, and privacy a primary consideration. We are a pet friendly property. Our location in a residential area on a one block street, half the distance to Sarasota Bay is ideal for enjoying a restful time, walks to watch the incredible sunsets, yet close to restaurants, shopping, entertainment venues, museums, golf and boating and all that Sarasota has to offer. Your review only reinforces what we strive to do for each and every guest who enjoy our vintage 'Old Florida' property with a large in-ground pool.

Relaxing in 'Old Florida' charm.

  • 5 of 5

Very clean home amidst tropical setting, provided a relaxing time.

This is an ideal home for a family to enjoy all that is within easy access. Strolling to Sarasota Bay for extraordinary sunset views half a block away or exercising a pet is easy. Large swimming pool is only steps away to have a refreshing dip or to lounge and soak up the sun.

Most enjoyable stay!

We loved it.

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed at this house for a week in June. We loved every part of it. We love the renovated hardwood floors and the style the home has. The pool is a huge plus for a family with 3 kids. The entire home feels private. We didn't have access to the cottage at the home but the screen in porch separates it from the main house and we both said we would love to bring other family members with us next time so that we could have a larger gathering than we did this year. The cottage is entirely separate and private. Both have great access to the pool. The outside pool area is surrounded on all sides and cannot be seen into by neighbors or any passers by. Very private. My family and I did not spend tons of time at the beach during our visit, but we did go a few times. It is a straight shot to numerous beaches (not just Siesta Key) in the area. We could get to them all in 20 mins or less. All of them have very easy and accommodating access. This was our first visit to Sarasota but we plan to make it an annual trip and will always try to choose this rental when we come.

Owner's Response: We are so pleased you enjoyed your week's stay in our Old Florida Vintage property. We take pride in the restoration of our home and the privacy of our property located in a quiet residential Bayside neighborhood. Our location does provide easy access to the many beaches of Sarasota and Manatee Counties, but relaxing by our large in-ground pool surrounded by tropical landscaping affords a respite one needs when vacationing. Hopefully, you will be able to return to us on your next visit to Sarasota.

Lovely house and pool home.

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our one week stay here in April. Not only did the Sunshine State live up to it's name, but the home lived up to it's billing as well. Very well kept but for some pet hairs on living room furniture. I have been coming to Sarasota area for over 40 years and own rental properties in town, and come down 2 to 3 times a year to inspect my properties. This is first time staying this far north of town and was a little hesitant as it is close to airport. Airplane noise is not too bad and it seems like a very nice neighborhood, and sunsets on Sarasota Bay are very nice and just a minute walk down to the end of street. Plenty of towels, linens etc. and most everything you need to head to beach. We had to scrounge around in garage for some saute pans for cooking but everything else was sufficient. Pool was a plus but a little cool so put solar cover on to warm it up. We would stay here again. Thank you.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your positive comments about our Sarasota home. Always ask should you not be able to locate what you need, more than likely we have it, or can obtain what is needed. You are correct about the beautiful sunsets on Sarasota Bay, and only a short walk from our home.

Great Home and Location

  • 5 of 5

The house was very spacious and clean. It had all the amenities we needed to make our weeks stay very pleasant. The pool was a great added feature even after coming home from the beach. The locaion of the house was perfect. Easy access to many resturants, shops and beaches. Siesta Key was a hit with us.

The neighborhood was very nice and quiet. Great area for walking and beautiful sunsets. Can't wait to go back.

The owner and the people I dealt with at the Rosebay were very helpful, responsive and easy to work with.
