About Lynne Ritchie
We are a family group who wanted to have a home in a safe part of warm, sunny Mexico. We allow others to enjoy our home when we are not using it ourselves.
Lynne Ritchie purchased this Apartment in 2007
Why Lynne Ritchie chose Progreso
This property worked well for us as we are a multi-couple group. This allows us all to be together, but also have our own space. We like that it is close to a wonderful and safe beach, close to restaurants, but in a quiet, quintessential Mexican town.

Nice place for the money.
Very nice location, quite and nicely furnished. Very safe area has a locked gate. Comfortable and air conditioned. The assistant caretaker was very helpful and always available. The place could use a bit of maintenance, Loose tiles in front of front door, bathroom light switch needs replacing, BUT all things considered I would stay here again.
Great location and facility.
We enjoyed this location, the management and the facility. It is a cruise port but this location is just far enough to not get the tourist crowds. Not that they are bad, they can be fun to watch and listen to.
Thank you for your review. We are glad you enjoyed Casa SolMar. We agree: our manager is wonderful! We hope to see you at Casa SolMar again soon.
My wife and i stayed for month of November with 2 friends. We stayed in #5 which was whole top floor with 2 small balconies. Our friends stayed in #3 which was on road side building, (these 2 buildings facing each other),very nice for them.Rooms were self contained and clean, spacious and modern.King bed was comfy.Big jugs of purified water for kitchen, 1 supplied and 26 pesos for next jug, cheap. No bugs or insects in room.Rooms have screens on doors/windows.Out of 5 units, only 2 were booked by us in November as it is slow season. We used the communal lounge/kitchen daily for drinks and cards etc. It has drinking water, toilet, fridge, stove and chairs etc.Pool was nice, clean and refreshing on hot days which were many.If all rooms were full the loungers at pool may need to increased, but for us it was great as we were only 4 as opposed to max. 10 persons.
Beach was a little disappointing as it was weedy and murky many days, time of year. We did go in and it was like a bath. City could have cheap labour to clean it up few times a week, bars on beach would hire labour to clean in front of their bar for cruise ship folks.Beach is long for walking, malecon is real nice to,and not any vendors on foot hassling you. Cruise hips from US gulf states/cities we in 2 times a week, slowly increasing to 3 per week.Never crazy busy when ships were in,many would book tours away from town. Many bars, restaruants with good food and cheap beer.No need for car on daily basis as location of Casa sol Mar was great. restaurants, Super mercados and such were short walk, same as cafes and eateries.Laundry was 3 blocks away, cheap.
Owners and manager were great to deal with, thanks to them.
1)Consider offering folding beach chairs
2)Consider offering up the onsite washing machine 1 time per week or so,even for small charge.
-No need for dryer use as you can hang clothes on rooftop lines (dry in few hours)
All in all great location, 1 block from Malecon and Beach, very walkable throughout small town.
Hope to return one day soon.
B & K
We stayed at this wonderful condo for the month of January 2016. It is close enough to the beach (1 block) to enjoy but not so close you have noise. The town of Progreso is a lovely place to visit, great restaurants and lots to do. Casa Sol Mar is perfectly situated to enjoy excursions with our without a car. There is a travel agent a block away that works very well with guests. All the other guests where when we were there were delightful and we had a wonderful time getting to know new people and enjoy a new place. After the hustle and bustle of Cancun, it was GREAT. Merida, the capital of Yucutan, is only a short drive or taxi away and has lots of culture and even more great restaurants. The manager, only a block away, was great to work with. We were lucky to have Ron and Carol, two of the owners, there when we were. What great people! Can't wait to go again. Thanks for a comfortable home away from home. Dee Dee and Doc
Thank you for your kind remarks. It was a delight having you to stay.
We hope to see you again Dee Dee & Doc, come up to beautiful B.C.

Best Place To Stay in Progreso
Casa Sol Mar is the perfect place to stay while you experience real Mexico and enjoy its history, people, and culture. The accommodations and location were superb - very clean and secure, with a nice pool, comfortable beds, well-equipped kitchens, and modern bathrooms. All this and only steps from the Malecon where you'll find excellent restaurants and everything else it has to offer. It's only a 10 minute walk to the main street of town and all its amenities, including a well stocked grocery store. The main bus depot to Merida (just over $2 return), the fresh meat and produce market, and the main city square are also in the downtown core - no need for a car! We were so impressed with Casa Sol Mar that we've already booked for 2012!
Paradise in Progreso
Jim and I visit Progreso at least twice a year and love the whole experience. This time, however, the experience was much more than we expected. Our stay at Casa Sol Mar was a wonderful getaway. From the moment the property manager, Jaromey met us to show us around and provide us with the keys we were amazed at how beautiful Casa Sol Mar really is. For those who look on the website as we did initially, all I can say is that it has so much more to offer than can be shown. The facilities are beautifully maintained from the pool, the outside community kitchen and the units which are like a home away from home. As serene as it is, it is right in the heart of the Malecon with wonderful restaurants and bars where visitors can meet at Buddy's where all the ex-pats gather for excellent food, drinks and very nice and attentive servers. I would definitely recommend Casa Sol Mar for anyone wanting a taste of luxury in Progreso. I've already contacted Jaromey regarding our next visit in the Spring.
There is a beautiful, safe swimming beach with a boardwalk, about 80 footsteps from Casa Sol Mar.
Of course, there are many Mayan ruin sites nearby, the most famous being Chichen Itza, (a 90-100 minute drive away, or by bus leaving from Progreso).
The nearest ruins are at Dzibilchalton and Uxmal, after which, for a unique swimming experience head to the nearby cenote, (sink hole).
The colonial city of Merida is 30 minutes away, with buses leaving continuously throughout the day.
There is a fabulous Hacienda tour at Sotuta de Peon, located south of Merida, just over an hour's drive away, where you can see how sisal is made and woven, ending with a swim in a fabulous underground cenote.
Local fisherman give tours of the mangroves located in San Crisanto, about 18 miles east of Progreso. These tours are done in non-powered boats, and include a stop at a cenote for a swim.
