About Larry Flynn

I was born in Seattle in 1956 and then moved to San Jose CA the following year. In the words of Lily Tomlin I moved as soon as I found out where I was and came back home to Seattle. 6 years after that I moved to Vashon and haven't looked back. In addition to The Last Resort I have worked on the island as a bus driver for the last 31 years.

Larry Flynn purchased this house in 1989

Wonderful hospitality

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful stay. The property was clean, well organized, and Larry was so helpful. He was quick to chop some firewood for us when we needed a little more heat in the cottage, and the hot tub was great after a long day. Also loved the use of reclaimed and recycled materials throughout the cottage. Larry also offered many tips for enjoying the island, including pointing out how to read the tide charts, and where to go for recreational activities. Thank you!

Perfect Puget Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for a private location to relax and enjoy the beauty of Puget Sound - and Larry's guest house was just the ticket! The house is so cool - built from repurposed building materials. Two sides are mostly made up of windows which bring the outside in. No need to pull the shades, since the house sits up so high and no civilization in close proximity. Just towering trees and Larry's sweet kitties occasionally lounging on the deck.

Climbing up the ladder to the loft made us feel like kids in a tree fort. And the hot tub! Positioned to look over the water and view the sunsets was perfection! We even used it one morning to have coffee and listen to the coyotes howl from across the Sound.

Hike down quietly to the water and I'll bet you'll run into deer just like I did. Stay still and they'll gaze, then graze without any worry that you're there.

Larry lives in a home next door, but we only saw him once during our stay and on the road the day we left. He takes pride in his gardens and has landscaped to optimize the views. We like Larry ~ he's so nice with a chill attitude. We felt like fast friends!

If you are thinking of booking, think no more and do it! I guarantee you won't be disappointed if solitude and relaxation is what your after. The long and winding road to the house will have you unwound by the time you get there! :)

A treat for the senses!

  • 5 of 5

When I saw the mammoth stone steps, I knew I was on a fairy-tale adventure, complete with a pod of orca gliding past down in the Sound! Interesting Larry, as I call him, was wonderful to talk to, and he has built an amazing little place to take you back to another time. The quiet was complete-- I didn't hear a human-made sound once, besides a fun chat with Larry. A beautiful, interesting little house--waking up to the glittering water and big and little boats going by kept me lying on the pull-out sofa for far too long. :) I was a little too old to make it up into the loft, but it looked beautiful (as did the stairs down to the water). I LOVED all the windows and the graceful design! The little deck and hot tub are the crowning touches...the friends I was visiting were envious. I can't wait to bring some DVD's (no WiFi, and that is GOOD for you) up in the winter, toast my toes by the woodstove, and watch the snow dust the cedars! Thanks so much, Larry...

Perfect for romantic getaway

  • 5 of 5

This cabin offers all the privacy, comfort and beauty to assure the perfect weekend getaway. We loved the hot tub and view, deck, etc. Larry was very cordial and the consummate host. Great time!

Our only comments would be 1) we recommend railings along at least one side of the loft, if not all the way around. It was a bit unnerving to sleep 2 ft from the fall-off point. And 2) the required positioning of the couch for fold-out purposes didn't lend itself to relaxing hang-out time. We craved a comfy chair and/or angle to look out at the view. But space is limited and we understand that any other position of the couch would preclude fold-out use.

Thank you Larry for a wonderful weekend celebrating our tenth!
