About Larry Flynn

I was born in Seattle in 1956 and then moved to San Jose CA the following year. In the words of Lily Tomlin I moved as soon as I found out where I was and came back home to Seattle. 6 years after that I moved to Vashon and haven't looked back. In addition to The Last Resort I have worked on the island as a bus driver for the last 31 years.

Larry Flynn purchased this house in 1989

Gorgeous setting.

  • 3 of 5

We loved the location, quiet and gorgeous view. Larry was super accommodating. The cooking utensils, and couch bed need replacing. The wood stove, deck and hot tub are the highlights. We didn't realize there was no internet, so spent a bit too much time att he coffee shop.

Owner's Response: I'm sorry that the sofa bed didn't meet you high standard of excellence. I have a bad back and check the sofa bed by that standard regularly to make sure it's up to snuff, as it were. My attention to the cooking utensils may have been missed, it can be a hand full with some travelers. My listing also details what IS available here and before booking is always the best time to find out what is or is not here for your enjoyment. Also my rating should be a 5 not 3 as you arrived a day early and claimed you did know what day it was. Damn straight I'm accommodating, you didn't get turned away arriving a day early and wasn't charged for another night though you left early. My experience with trying to hold a conversation was thwarted each time I spoke. Highly rude on top of arriving a day ahead of the reservation. I do not recommend this traveler. Your host, Larry

Best little place!!

  • 5 of 5

This was a great stay. A private sandy beach access trail and lovely little cottage. The Hot Tub was delightful, as Larry fills it with fresh water for each guest so that it isn't full of chlorine!! The loft is a bit to get used to but the bed in the trees is worth it.

Not what we expected .

  • 2 of 5

The owners house is attached to this cabin. When I looked at the pictures, I thought that the cabin was all by itself. The windows from the owners home that look into the hot tub are approximately six feet from the hot tub. The owner closed the blinds to those windows so we had privacy. We also thought that the cabin was right next to the water. You need to go down a steep trail to get to the water. Inside the cabin...Once you climb the ladder to the loft , there is just a mattress on the floor for you to sleep on. The only table inside the cabin is a very small one that is attached to the wall and needs to be put up and the legs need to be adjusted. It is more comfortable to just sit on the couch and use a cooler for your table. If you know what you are getting yourself into ... you will not be disappointed.... it is when you except something more that sets you up for a disappointment. I felt like I should give an honest review so someone else doesn’t fall into what happened to us.

Owner's Response: To be clear readers....... Please do what this guest did not do, examine the photos again. The loft is clearly shown for what it is as is the rest of the cottage. The trail to the beach is mentioned. A "drop leaf" table is just that and a space saver also. Again, look to the photos in the ad. The hot tub is about 15 feet from my home and yes I close the blinds on that side of my home. The hedges which are already planted will finish the job of providing privacy. The attachment mentioned here is a covered walk way behind the cottage which is hardly to be noticed. The steep trail is what is known as a switch back trail to ease the walk down to the beach. (I'm 61 with lousy feet and have no issues with this trail.) Nor have any of my guests in the past 10 years. Stairs are all along the trail to insure a safe walk to the beach with stairs that take you directly from the trail onto to the beach. This guest told me that their expectations were to high and I therefore allowed a cancellation of the second night as per their request. The Last Resort is not the Hilton and my ad shows you all that you get here. I suppose after 10 years of business I was bound to get a "bummer" review from a guest that simply didn't do all the reading provided in my ad so as not to "fall into" something. Cheers!

Amazing weekend on Vashon

  • 5 of 5

We can't say enough amazing things about our stay on Vashon. Larry was the ultimate host—making sure we felt welcome and comfortable for our stay. The Last Resort has anything you could need, and in a pinch, Larry was even able to lend us a iron, as we were visiting for a wedding. We loved our morning walk down to the ocean for a quick dip, followed by a soak in the hot tub. We couldn't have imagined a more perfect stay on the island. Thank you Larry for everything.

Wonderful hospitality

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful stay. The property was clean, well organized, and Larry was so helpful. He was quick to chop some firewood for us when we needed a little more heat in the cottage, and the hot tub was great after a long day. Also loved the use of reclaimed and recycled materials throughout the cottage. Larry also offered many tips for enjoying the island, including pointing out how to read the tide charts, and where to go for recreational activities. Thank you!

Perfect Puget Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for a private location to relax and enjoy the beauty of Puget Sound - and Larry's guest house was just the ticket! The house is so cool - built from repurposed building materials. Two sides are mostly made up of windows which bring the outside in. No need to pull the shades, since the house sits up so high and no civilization in close proximity. Just towering trees and Larry's sweet kitties occasionally lounging on the deck.

Climbing up the ladder to the loft made us feel like kids in a tree fort. And the hot tub! Positioned to look over the water and view the sunsets was perfection! We even used it one morning to have coffee and listen to the coyotes howl from across the Sound.

Hike down quietly to the water and I'll bet you'll run into deer just like I did. Stay still and they'll gaze, then graze without any worry that you're there.

Larry lives in a home next door, but we only saw him once during our stay and on the road the day we left. He takes pride in his gardens and has landscaped to optimize the views. We like Larry ~ he's so nice with a chill attitude. We felt like fast friends!

If you are thinking of booking, think no more and do it! I guarantee you won't be disappointed if solitude and relaxation is what your after. The long and winding road to the house will have you unwound by the time you get there! :)
