Comfortable lodge with plenty of space, great access, and gorgeous views
Lakes End Lodge delivered everything promised and more. The swimming is exceptionally good - the area around the dock is sandy and clear for a substantial distance as the water becomes gradually deeper, but is deep enough to jump in off the dock and swim in too. There were several boat options and plenty of (large) life jackets. The mountain roads snaking through the woods right outside the door are quiet, empty of traffic, seemingly endless, and beautiful, with a rocky stream within half a mile of the house. Lots of hiking in the area. The property feels very private for a lake dotted with other houses, as it is the last house before the undeveloped side of the lake begins and is tucked into a little cove. The screened porch and unscreened porch both were large and accommodated a number of chairs with plenty of extra space and had excellent views of the lake and mountains. The house is open and spacious with plenty of eating space for 8. The kitchen is well stocked with pots and pans, dishes, etc. Great home in a great location.
Lodge--lots of character,
Lake's End Lodge is nicely decorated and comfortable furnishings. Good location on lake and lovely yard with new deck. However, there are some maintenance issues: The kitchen stove is antiquated and troublesome to get the burners on and to regulate, the oven (the door especially) was a real issue. The shades in the bedrooms were either broken, not working or not there. The other issue we had with this property was that the owner took a month to return our security deposit (which was much higher than any I have ever paid!). We have rented many times in that area and always had the deposit returned within a week or two. I was wondering if we would ever see it since the owner did not respond to my inquiry about it by phone or email. After repeated attempts to contact the owner, it was finally returned.
We have been renting our home to vacationers for over 8 years and this is the first, somewhat negative comment we have received and respond as follows:
1. The stove is a gas propane stove with electrically ignited burners and oven. When we turn the knobs to the ignition position the burner’s fire up. Perhaps this tenant is not familiar with this type of stove.
2. Regarding the oven door, it was pulled out of its hinges. We cannot ascertain if this tenant did the damage but it was put back in position within 24 hours, at no repair cost to the tenant, and without issue ever since.
3. Every window in our home has curtains. These curtains fully cover each window and when closed shield out a reasonable degree of daylight. The shades are rolled all the way up in each window and are typically used when the house is closed up and not by summer tenants.
4. We live over six hours away from our home and it sometimes takes a while to verify that no damage was done. In this case the full deposit was sent within a week but was never received. The signed lease agreement allows the return of the deposit within 30 days. Even with the lost check this tenant got their full deposit back within the time period on the lease. We cannot be accountable for assumed expectations that were never discussed nor agreed to.
Lakes End Lodge is located west of NYS Route 3 just 20 minutes north of Saranac Lake and 35 minutes from the Olympic Village of Lake Placid. Both villages offer shopping, dining as well as proximity to famous Adirondack attractions such as the Ausable River, High Falls Gorge, Whiteface mountain, Keen Valley or the ski jump at the Olympic Village.
If a major shopping source is the objective Plattsburgh and Lake Champlain are just 40 minutes north and feature a Lowes, Marshalls, Wal Mart in addition to a multiplex movie theatre, bowling lanes and multiple restaurants.
You could also hike, golf, horseback ride, rock climb or just relax . . . its all here if you so choose.
