This bright and cute cottage is conveniently located in Flora-Dale resort, close to all that Silver
Lake has to offer. Our cottage is located about 1/2 mile west of Silver Lake State Park entrance,1 mile from shops and restaurants, 2 miles to Lake Michigan beaches, and about 3 miles to entrance of sand dunes. Our community also has a heated swimming pool and private beach area, both of which are about a 50 yard walk from our cottage.
The cottage has one bedroom with queen bed, one bathroom with shower only, living room with queen sleeper sofa, and fully equipped kitchen with dining table.
**Must provide own linens and towels.
**No smoking. No pets.
**Four persons maximum occupancy.
It was so fun to return to Michigan as I did as a child when visiting family. You have a wonderful little cottage--made to feel homey and so welcoming. Thanks again for opening your cottage.
Great location-very close to beach and pool was wonderful. Beach was clean with tables and benches-sandy lake bottom and NO weeds! No air but fans kept us cool. View of lake from side porch was nice. Lots of "extras" as far as toilet paper, garbage bags, cleaning supplies. Only complaint would be the amount of foundation ants on porch and some in kitchen. Otherwise, nice cozy cottage.
The cottage was very cute, nicely decorated, clean, with a water view from the side deck. It was a great location...close to everything we wanted to do. We didn't use the pool or rec hall, but the area was nice and well maintained. The payment/check in/damage deposit refund process was simple and smooth. This was our first time ever renting a cottage vs. hotel, and would totally do it again! The only thing missing that would have made this property a perfect 5 was air conditioning. We had one day during our stay that was very hot, and it felt 20 degrees hotter in the cottage vs. outside on the deck...but then we're there to enjoy the outdoors, right?! ;-)
This was our first time to Silver Lake. We didn't need much space, but were not interested in staying in a hotel as it is too pricey. The space was adequate for our needs with one bedroom and a pull out queen sleeper in the living room for our preteen son and his friend. The kitchen was well stocked with items you would need. Lots of pots in various sizes, There was one big pan and a griddle pan - so you may want to bring another pan. I brought a couple sharp knives and some tongs just in case. I used my knives. There was tupperware, plenty of plates, cups, spatulas & corn holders. The table in the kitchen has 4 chairs with 4 more stored under, so you can seat more people. Just may have to pull the table away from the kitchen counter.
We hit most of the nearby attractions - Silver Lake Sand Dunes, Little Sable Point Lighthouse (there is a great beach there, so bring your gear when you plan to visit the lighthouse - we ended up coming back another day), Craig's Cruisers. We ate dinner at the cottage every night except one when we had a bad storm roll through - the grill is a little smaller than normal, but worked great! We also hit some of the ice cream places - Village ice cream was good and reasonable, Whippy Dip had tons of choices but was very pricey. My husband got the famous Turtle (a medium), my son got a medium cone, I got a medium shake and my sons friend got a small specialty flurry. Our total was $20.
It was great having a pool for the boys to swim in, we sent them there every day while we cleaned up breakfast, packed our lunch, etc. The beach was nice - there is a seawall there, so we didn't swim there, but came at night for the sunsets which were very nice from that view point. We played shuffleboard, the boys rode their bikes into town for Dune Dippity fudge. They are 12 and we felt comfortable letting them ride around since we were so close to the down town area and the speed limit is 25.
There is no air in the cottage, but it was only hot one night. The rest of the nights had cooled off and felt great. Plenty of fans to keep the air circulating during the day and we were never really there anyhow. Nice size yard with a bonfire pit. We ate on the patio a few times. Queen bed in the bedroom was comfy. Nothing like home, but I never woke up in pain which is awesome when staying somewhere for a week. Overall, this was a great little cottage to stay at, and we plan on coming back!
