About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, 6 Sleeps

* You will love relaxing at this charming in-town cottage located on Main Street, just a short, flat (no hills to climb up or down, important in Harbor Springs) walk to shops, beaches (two public ones) and the waterfront.

* This cottage is not just a rental property, but is our family cottage. Due to the school schedules of our children, it is now available in August and for Autumn and Winter getaways.

* There is a 12' x 12' covered and furnished front porch for dining, reading and people-watching in the summer. The large, private backyard has a beautiful patio that provides another outdoor living space.

* There are two bedrooms upstairs, one with a new queen-size bed, the other with two twins, and a full bathroom. Downstairs is a third bedroom with a new double bed and another full bathroom.

* The main living space is open to the kitchen and has a big bay window view of Main Street. The kitchen is fully equipped with a microwave oven, dishwasher, refrigerator and new stove.

* We provide all sheets and towels, and the kitchen has most accessories you would need (blender, toaster, pots and pans, etc.)

Why Julie Ryckman chose Northern Michigan

I grew up summering and skiing in Harbor Springs at our family's cottage nearby. My husband and I wanted our own place so our future kids would be able to do the same.

What makes this house unique

The house had no central heating when we bought it! We gutted the first floor and rearranged the rooms, opening it up a bit and putting in a new kitchen and bath.

We think it dates back to about 1890. There was a railroad line that went down Main Street and crossed our lot to get back to Third Street. The old railroad cut diagonally across the yard with our house on one side, snug up against the lot line. We think that is part of why our yard is so rocky!

There used to a second house on the other side of the track, but it was at the back, facing Third Street (behind the existing garage). It was gone before we purchased the house, burned down by the local fire department as practice for the crew.(The house had reverted to the City due to non-payment of taxes.)

We love being so close to town. If you are without a car, you don't feel 'stuck' with no where to go. You can walk or bike to so many places in just a few minutes.

Charming cozy house, perfect location, super clean

  • 5 of 5

Perfectly titled, this "cottage" is so charming and comfortable. The bedding and towels were luxury quality; honestly, I don't think I've rented a home more meticulously clean. We thoroughly enjoyed the backyard patio one sunny afternoon and drank our morning coffee on the covered porch. Located 2-3 blocks from the shops and Farmers Market, and the bike path leads right to the house. Couldn't have made a better choice for our Girls Getaway in Harbor Springs. Thank you!!!

Perfect for us!

  • 5 of 5

The internet description had fine pictures of the interior, and the actual home was as pictured - comfortable, and charming, with many unexpected amenities. The location was great - walking distance to the downtown, which provides a good selection of fine

restaurants and a variety of interesting shops. The owner offered clear directions for

how to use the home facilities, and everything was easy. We enjoyed cooking some meals in the well-equipped kitchen. All in all - an enjoyable week! I would definitely recommend it to friends or relatives.

I grew up summering and skiing in Harbor Springs at our family's cottage nearby. My husband and I wanted our own place so our future kids would be able to do the same.

Activity and Interests

* Harbor Springs has so much to offer in the summer. For active travelers, the public boat launch is a block away.

* Kayaks and bikes are available for rent in town.

* There is a weekly children's Sailing School in the summer (a block from the house)- reservations required. (Little Traverse Sailors.)

* Public tennis courts are up on the bluff behind the elementary school (six courts)- access them through the Middle School entrance.

* Two public beaches, one with lifeguards and a bathhouse, are a bike ride away. For a full day at the beach, try the Petoskey State Park. It is on the Harbor-Petoskey Rd. and is beautiful.

* There are also numerous public golf courses in the area.

* There are many art galleries and art shows in the area.

* Downtown Harbor Springs has a waterfront concert every Monday evening and on Thursday evenings, the town comes alive with several streetside musical performances (perfect with that after-dinner ice cream cone).

* For a quiet afternoon, escape to the Harbor Springs Library, located above the fudge shop, and try to read while enveloped in the sugary rich aroma of fresh fudge and caramel.
