About the property

Condo, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, 6 Sleeps

Akumal is only one hour south of Cancun, but it feels like a world away. Very low key in every way,

one feels like Akumal was made just for them and a few other people. Although Akumal is thriving

with fabulous diving, snorkeling, shopping and eating, and has incredible white beaches, it does not

have the hustle and urgency of Cancun. Another interesting fact is that the sand never gets hot. Our

condominium is very special to us. We have owned it for ten years but we have not rented until 2008.

We have had many wonderful evenings sitting on our patio watching the moon rise and listening to the

waves breaking just below us. I mention the moon because it is honestly spectacular from our balcony

in the evenings. You feel as though you could almost reach out and touch it. FOR EVERY REFERRAL YOU

SEND TO US, YOU WILL RECEIVE TWO NIGHTS OF STAY! JUST THREE REFERRALS AND YOU WILL HAVE A FREE

WEEK.

About Jane Whaley

Bill is an Oncologist in Atlanta, Georgia and I develop property. We have four daughters and seven grandchildren.

Why Jane Whaley chose Quintana Roo

We fell in love with Akumal the first time we visited fifteen years ago. We returned a month later and purchased our condominium on the beach. We were taken by the quaintness of the little town and the breathtaking turquoise water and the cool white sand on the beaches.

What makes this condo unique

Our particular unit has high ceilings and a spectacular vies of the ocean. Watching the moon rise over the ocean is a beautiful sight.

Vacation Get Away

  • 5 of 5

We recently returned from our vacation and had a wonderful time. My husband, our two sons ages 6 and 9 and I spent a week in Akumal visiting the surrounding area. The condo was well cared for and beautifully furnished. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Very relaxing atmosphere and would highly recommend it.

The condo/Akumal was in a perfect location, central to sight-seeing and unlike Playa del Carmen, much quieter. The restaurants in the area were all very good.

The kids loved swimming in the pool and snorkling at Akumal beach and the nearby lagoon. A highlight for them was swimming among the sea turtles that were passing through. They also loved Xel-Ha. My husband and I enjoyed visiting the Mayan ruines of Tulum and Coba (we recommend renting a bike near the entrance to Coba since it is very hot and the ruines are very spread out). On the return from Coba we stopped at the Grand Cenote to cool of and would recommend it. The kids enjoyed snorkling in the Cenote. They also enjoyed Xcarate. The night show was impressive. We rented a car and found it very easy to get around. Over all it was a very relaxing vacation and a great place to stay.

Just Great

  • 5 of 5

Akumal is just so cute and beachy. Lots of funky little restaurants and friendly people. We felt very safe here. I noticed Police right at the towns archway the entire time we were there. They seem to be making sure it is a very safe area for all to enjoy.

This condo is excellent, it is a great value, and it's also huge. The kitchen is big with lots of room for prepping meals. There's no oven, but there is a large toaster oven, so that worked well for us. There were spices and sauces in the cupboard including cumin, chili, hot sauce, soy sauce, olive oil, even a jar of peanut butter and a jar of nutella. But oddly there was no sugar and no vinegar. So I would just check it out when you get there and then shop for what you need. The balcony is large and the incredible ocean views can be seen from the kitchen, dining room and living room. Having the big pool was awesome, especially with the kids. The waves in front of the condo are impressive and loud.

The daily maid service didn't actually come every day, but I think it was just a communication issue. I don't speak a lot of Spanish, so it was challenging to communicate with the gentleman who takes care of the complex and with the lady who came to clean our room. I think she probably came and knocked at the door, and when we didn't answer she left. I happened to open the door on our third day, and she was standing right outside and had been knocking. We just couldn't hear her knocking over the sound of the waves. After that she came most of the days. She also did our laundry for us, which was great.

I think Akumal is the perfect home base for visiting this area because it's so central. We drove to Coba to see the ruins, we drove into Tulum, (overrated IMO, and made me so glad we stayed in Akumal and not Tulum). We even drove out to Punta Laguna to see monkeys in the wild of the jungle. And it only took us about an hour to get there. Really made sightseeing easy.

Snorkelling at Akumal and Yal Ku was great. Kids loved it. Sailing adventure with the Akumal Dive shop, was excellent. I also highly recommend Selva Maya zip lining, which includes a private guided snorkel in the most beautiful cenote around.

Another highlight for me was seeing a white nosed coati right outside the condo. He had a big long snout and a long furry ring tail. So cute. Overall this was a hit. Highly recommend this condo. You won't be disappointed.

The place, view, location to town and price is spectacular! We have found a gem !!! The staff is very responsive to needs and concerns. We never feel alone or unsafe. We have stayed in several other condos in Akumal, but enjoy this one most.

Fabulous Vacation - Condo was perfect!

  • 5 of 5

Our family is still glowing from our fabulous stay at Mi Casa Del Mar B2! We so enjoyed spending Christmas and New Years at such a lovely place. Our family of 5 were impressed the moment we arrived to such a friendly staff willing to help us get settled. When we walked into the condo the view instantly took our breath away. The condo is much larger than it appears in the pictures. All the directions are there in a book that tells you about the beaches, restaurants, grocery stores and staff. We spent 7 days enjoying the area. We did have a car to get around, but it isn't necessary. Other the the view, the pool, and the spacious condo the other highlight was having a chef prepare a birthday celebration meal for our family. After spending a long day at the ruins in Coba and swimming in Cenotes we came home to an outstanding home cooked authentic Mayan meal which was delicious and very reasonably priced. It will be a night to remember for sure. Idea for future tenant is to help keep the area beautiful by picking up plastic on the beach in front of the condo complex. Our family was saddened to see the amount of plastic that washed up on the rocks. On New Year's Day the 5 of us spend one hour and picked up 12 bags of trash to be thrown out properly. It was sad to see a baby turtle carrying a red plastic bottle cap into its burrow. This was a way for us to give back to the wonderful beauty of the place and hope others follow suit.

Note that there isn't a traditional oven in the condo, only a stove top and a microwave. One of the chefs taught us how to cook chicken and fish in banana leaves not having an oven was no longer a problem. The other small problem was the tenants in other condos were quiet noisy at times. They did respect the 10:00 curfew though and we appreciated them quieting down. We will definitely recommend to others an hope to be back in the future. Thank you to Whaley's for sharing this amazing space!

ALWAYS FABULOUS!!

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful property right on the Caribbean. We've stayed here several times, and love it more each time. It's beautifully decorated. There's a great notebook telling you everything there is to do in the area. The condo is comfortable in every way.

It looks better in person than on the web. It's clean and serviced by a lovely local lady. The chap in charge, Roger, is a true delight. At your service. I've commended it to several friends. The restaurant/bar Oscar Y Lalo is our favorite. But here and many nice places to eat within a ten minute walk of the condo. You're gonna love this place!
