About the property

Condo, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, 6 Sleeps

Akumal is only one hour south of Cancun, but it feels like a world away. Very low key in every way,

one feels like Akumal was made just for them and a few other people. Although Akumal is thriving

with fabulous diving, snorkeling, shopping and eating, and has incredible white beaches, it does not

have the hustle and urgency of Cancun. Another interesting fact is that the sand never gets hot. Our

condominium is very special to us. We have owned it for ten years but we have not rented until 2008.

We have had many wonderful evenings sitting on our patio watching the moon rise and listening to the

waves breaking just below us. I mention the moon because it is honestly spectacular from our balcony

in the evenings. You feel as though you could almost reach out and touch it. FOR EVERY REFERRAL YOU

About Jane Whaley

Bill is an Oncologist in Atlanta, Georgia and I develop property. We have four daughters and seven grandchildren.

Why Jane Whaley chose Quintana Roo

We fell in love with Akumal the first time we visited fifteen years ago. We returned a month later and purchased our condominium on the beach. We were taken by the quaintness of the little town and the breathtaking turquoise water and the cool white sand on the beaches.

What makes this condo unique

Our particular unit has high ceilings and a spectacular vies of the ocean. Watching the moon rise over the ocean is a beautiful sight.

Vacation Get Away

  • 5 of 5

We recently returned from our vacation and had a wonderful time. My husband, our two sons ages 6 and 9 and I spent a week in Akumal visiting the surrounding area. The condo was well cared for and beautifully furnished. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Very relaxing atmosphere and would highly recommend it.

The condo/Akumal was in a perfect location, central to sight-seeing and unlike Playa del Carmen, much quieter. The restaurants in the area were all very good.

The kids loved swimming in the pool and snorkling at Akumal beach and the nearby lagoon. A highlight for them was swimming among the sea turtles that were passing through. They also loved Xel-Ha. My husband and I enjoyed visiting the Mayan ruines of Tulum and Coba (we recommend renting a bike near the entrance to Coba since it is very hot and the ruines are very spread out). On the return from Coba we stopped at the Grand Cenote to cool of and would recommend it. The kids enjoyed snorkling in the Cenote. They also enjoyed Xcarate. The night show was impressive. We rented a car and found it very easy to get around. Over all it was a very relaxing vacation and a great place to stay.

Amazing View. Relaxing Location.

  • 5 of 5

Just spend 8 glorious nights at this Gem. The view from the balcony will stay with me until I return again. We had our 2 little ones (5 and 3) with and they had the time of their lives. The pool is beautiful. There is no beach at the back of the property as I thought from a map but rather it is 0.6km walk to Akumal beach which is simply stunning. Yes there are police on the beach protecting the turtles from over enthused tourists but he area that was roped off is more than sufficient to swim and we even swam alongside 3-4 turtles in the week in this 'protected' area. The maid service was great every other day and the chef we hired through the owner was great. We stopped on the 90 minute drive from Cancun airport and got groceries to minimize the eating out. When we did eat out the places close to the beach were all great. Air Conditioning worked great and had the bed rooms as ice cold as needed for sleeping. Rest of the unit was very comfortable given the amazing breeze that enters through the patio doors. I hope to return here someday.

Amazing Vacation at Mi Casa Del Mar in Akumal

  • 5 of 5

Our family of six, with 4 girls ages 9, 12, 14, and 17, stayed at this beautiful, spacious, waterfront condo from March 8th to March 15th, and we loved everything about it. The view from the very large balcony was spectacular and allowed us to just relax and listen to the waves crashing on the rocks and see various birds flying by while watching the sun rise. We loved the layout of the kitchen / dining room / living room, making it easy for everyone to take part in food preparation. Loved the rustic furniture and Mexican style decor, as well as the various shell collections. The two bedrooms each had a comfortable king size bed, and all the rooms had ceiling fans with air conditioning in both bedrooms, making it very comfortable, even during the day.

We loved the area with it's many restaurants and souvenir shops within a short walk. Our favorite was the Turtle Bay Cafe with Lucy's homemade ice cream. We also walked to the Yal Ku Lagoon for some snorkeling as well as to the Akumal Beach for some swimming with the turtles. Although the beach is now sectioned off to protect the turtles, we were still able to see them from very close if we swam up to the buoys. An experience that we will never forget.

We did not require to rent a vehicle as we hired a transportation company to shuttle us back and forth from the airport as well as to give us a tour of the Chichen Itza and swimming in the IK KIL cenote which was amazing. Lots to do around for all ages but our girls just loved to stay at the condo and enjoy the pool. The Iguanas really entertained us while we sat around the pool and they even posed for a photo-shoot. We also walked along the shore and found some really interesting fossils.

The staff were all amazing and Roger was very helpful. Thanks for sharing this amazing piece of heaven with us.

The only regret is that we did not stay longer. This is one place that we are definitely thinking of visiting again some day.

Just Great

  • 5 of 5

Akumal is just so cute and beachy. Lots of funky little restaurants and friendly people. We felt very safe here. I noticed Police right at the towns archway the entire time we were there. They seem to be making sure it is a very safe area for all to enjoy.

This condo is excellent, it is a great value, and it's also huge. The kitchen is big with lots of room for prepping meals. There's no oven, but there is a large toaster oven, so that worked well for us. There were spices and sauces in the cupboard including cumin, chili, hot sauce, soy sauce, olive oil, even a jar of peanut butter and a jar of nutella. But oddly there was no sugar and no vinegar. So I would just check it out when you get there and then shop for what you need. The balcony is large and the incredible ocean views can be seen from the kitchen, dining room and living room. Having the big pool was awesome, especially with the kids. The waves in front of the condo are impressive and loud.

The daily maid service didn't actually come every day, but I think it was just a communication issue. I don't speak a lot of Spanish, so it was challenging to communicate with the gentleman who takes care of the complex and with the lady who came to clean our room. I think she probably came and knocked at the door, and when we didn't answer she left. I happened to open the door on our third day, and she was standing right outside and had been knocking. We just couldn't hear her knocking over the sound of the waves. After that she came most of the days. She also did our laundry for us, which was great.

I think Akumal is the perfect home base for visiting this area because it's so central. We drove to Coba to see the ruins, we drove into Tulum, (overrated IMO, and made me so glad we stayed in Akumal and not Tulum). We even drove out to Punta Laguna to see monkeys in the wild of the jungle. And it only took us about an hour to get there. Really made sightseeing easy.

Snorkelling at Akumal and Yal Ku was great. Kids loved it. Sailing adventure with the Akumal Dive shop, was excellent. I also highly recommend Selva Maya zip lining, which includes a private guided snorkel in the most beautiful cenote around.

Another highlight for me was seeing a white nosed coati right outside the condo. He had a big long snout and a long furry ring tail. So cute. Overall this was a hit. Highly recommend this condo. You won't be disappointed.

The place, view, location to town and price is spectacular! We have found a gem !!! The staff is very responsive to needs and concerns. We never feel alone or unsafe. We have stayed in several other condos in Akumal, but enjoy this one most.
