Loved this property!

  • 5 of 5

One of the best places we have stayed in FL. The beach access was amazing! Comfy beds, couches and pet friendly. The beach wasn't crowded at all. This rental was so well stocked! We will be back for sure!! AC worked great! Sally was SO helpful!! Loved our time ❤️

Perfect quiet spot for our family

  • 5 of 5

I was hoping for a quiet spot with direct beach access and businesses far enough, but not too far, away. That is exactly what we found. I caught the sunrise on the first morning after our arrival with a cup of coffee on the boardwalk bench and it was divine! Despite the public beach access two doors down, the beach only moderately crowded on Friday and the weekends and somewhat so on Monday and Thursday. Very little beach traffic on Tuesday and Wednesday.

There is a Publix, great little chinese place (that also delivers), pizza place and a couple of other small restaurants less than a mile away and then anything you could want within about 15 minute drive into St Augustine.

We stayed in Unit C on the bottom right (left from the street). Spacious parking, clean and secure private entrance. The unit was great for me at 34 weeks pregnant with very few steps to navigate. There is one step that separates the living room from the kitchen and then a few coming off the private boardwalk to the beach. The unit was very clean and the beds and pillows were comfortable. My cell phone had poor reception so the Wi-Fi was needed. There is also a landline phone. Laundry is centrally located in a building at the front of the property. At first I didn't like that but it was really convenient when required and made me spend less of my hard-earned vacation doing laundry.

One negative and a suggestion, however. There was a very potent rotten eggs smell to the tap water for part of the trip. I am a real estate professional, so I know this can be common with well water (and harmless, though unpleasant) so I contacted Sally and she got it handled but there was a delay for the water contractor to come out. It is possible that a previous visitor noticed and didn't report it. We just bought ice and gallon drinking water, which was probably what we would have done anyway. We also had to buy trash bags, so I left the remainder of the box for a future visitor. My only suggestion would be for a prospective renter to be sure to bring trash bags as they were not provided. Also coffee and any cream or sugar.

Overall, excellent spot, worth every penny, and we definitely hope to stay with Sally at Surfside Retreat in the future.

Wonderful time at the beach

  • 5 of 5

Thank you Sally for the wonderful stay. I so appreciated your phone call to make sure we were enjoying our time. Your house had everything we needed for our family. Loved hearing the ocean at night. My favorite though was the built in deck seating on the walkway. Such a cozy alcove to sit at all hours and enjoy the great view. Thank you!

Owner's Response: Thank you Chris and Jennifer for selecting Surfside Retreat for your mini vacation. It never gets old hearing that someone that vacationed at your beach house enjoyed themselves for the time that they were able to be there for either the beach or the sites in St. Augustine. I, myself, enjoyed many mornings sitting on the benches on the walkover enjoying my morning coffee and also a beverage of choice at dusk as the sun went down. Also the quiet, with the exception of the sound of the waves crashing on the shoreline, your time to reflect. Sally

Owner's Response: I am so sorry you are having a problem with the refund of your deposit. The deposit is held by VacationRentals/HomeAway and is returned by them. I will try to contact them for you and ask if they will contact you. I don't know if they credit your card or mail a check. I hope this will be of help to you. Pat

Owner's Response: Just love it when guests continue to come back and visit us. If they are happy, we are happy!! We lived there for about eighteen years and loved every minute of it and would have continued to live there had health issues not entered into it but we had to move and I continue to go back as time permits. Owner's Response: We are very much pet friendly and all we ask of our guests is that they do not allow their pets to destroy our furnishings and be responsible enough to pick up after their pets. We have been very fortunate to have this type of guest stay at Surfside. We certainly welcome them back and hope that they would return in the future and of course bring their fur babies. Sally
