the location is very good, the house lacks cleanliness, the bathrooms are dirty, under the sink, in the kitchen there are cockroach eggs, in general the pool is good but a little cold, but what I would recommend would be that you personal was stricter in cleaning because if it is very bad and the furniture worn and neglected, everything else well
Fantastic location to get away from the crowds.
The location of this property is ideal! It's in a very small village with a great beach and such friendly local people. The property has a huge out door living space, with enough room that you never feel crowded. We are looking at returning again next year.
The Villa is a rustic place to stay.
The house is cute and rustic but the location and the village make it great.
Don't be fooled by outside appearances
Our group has rented this villa for the past four years from early in January until the end of February. I've only given my rating 3 Stars based on the interior of the villa and issues we encountered during our 7 week stay. The exterior of the property (grounds and view) I will give 5 Stars. The biggest issue we encountered was an infestation of ants of various sizes. Two of the bedrooms were quite bad and two had no ants. My husband and I had one of the rooms with the ants. When we moved in, I pulled out the dresser drawer to find it full of large black ants...disgusting and shocking! We did a lot of spraying with Raid to control the problem. At the end of three weeks, it came to a head when my husband was bitten in bed. This coincided with one of the couples heading home and we moved into their room. The kitchen was bad for very tiny ants on the central island where we did all the food preparation. No matter how much we attacked them, they kept coming back. We finally insisted on the house being fumigated. It seemed to work as we found ant bodies every morning in the various rooms but the little kitchen ants were made of sterner stuff as they were with us until we left. Second issue was noise at night. Since the roads in Cuastecomate were paved, last year, the road outside the villa is busy every day as most vehicles entering town drive past the villa. It is a popular beach destination for day trippers. At night, normally after midnight, young people park on the other side of the fence and "party". It became the norm to be woken up in the middle of the night by people outside the fence. Throw in the dogs barking at the partiers and it was not a fun time for the people trying to sleep in the villa. Often times they would stay until 3am-4am! Never saw any police presence during our 7 week stay and not from lack of complaints from locals. The villa is described as deluxe accommodations. Perhaps, once upon a time, but, sadly, not any more. The interior is dated and needs lots of TLC and that's why I give only 3 Stars. We are not returning a) because of the issues encountered and b) the owner rented the place out from under us for next year without the courtesy of first refusal. We have found a new place that we believe will meet our high expectations. To the owner we say, fix what needs fixing; your rates do not reflect what people are paying for. I would loved to have added photos but the review lacks that ability.
I am sorry Villa Alegre did not meet your expectations this year, and I'm certainly sorry your husband was bitten by an ant and that your group experienced evening noise. I was there all of December, just 10 days before your group, another family was there immediately before your group and another after, and no one else has complained of an ant infestation or noise. As far as the ants, it is always important to keep food cleaned up and put away. When I talk to people about Cuastecomate, I laughingly say they almost literally roll up the sidewalks at 7pm and that has been my experience there. We did not experience any evening noise during the extended time we were there, even though it encompassed the Christmas holidays. There also was a daily police presence, so I don't fully understand the changes you experienced. I agree Villa is needing some minor updating, which is partly why we can no longer rent at the discounted rates we have been offering. If you check our calendar, you will find that your dates are not rented "out from under you" and are currently still available. I did contact you by the email address you used on VRBO and offer it to you first as a courtesy, however, I did not receive a response. In view of the fact that I was just there ahead of you and so were others and we were all very happy, I feel your review is a bit harsh.
We spent two weeks at Villa Alegre, everything was very comfortable and the location is the best. The property was well maintained, everything worked. I hardly want to tell anyone about it because the place is so unspoiled! the perfect place for a total rest. We explored Melaque and Barra de Navidad for great restaurants and sunsets.
Thank you Randall for your kind words!
Your dates are reserved for next season and we look forward to sharing our little piece of paradise with you once again.
This area of Mexico is wonderfull , The locals make the place easy to enjoy. The kitchen, court yard and pool area great. in the Villa. We are going back for our third time.
This area of coastline offers something for everyone, including snorkeling, scuba diving, surfing, kayaking, jungle tours, bird watching, and shopping, all within an authentic Mexican setting. The neighboring towns of San Patricio Melaque and Barra de Navidad are delightful to explore. They are typical of coastal towns with their markets, largely unpaved streets, small stores and thatched beachfront seafood restaurants. The 'jardin,' is a popular gathering site with its charming, provincial ambience, for locals and tourists alike. The locals are friendly, the climate is superb (80 degrees average), and the dress is casual.
