We loved Riverside Cottage. JoAnn was a wonderful hostess. The cottage was spotless, felt spacious and had everything we could have wished for. The bed was extraordinarily comfortable. We brought breakfast items with us and loved eating breakfast each day on the screened porch. The location was great - private yet only 10 minutes or less from downtown Lake Placid. We savored our lakeside dinner at the Cottage Cafe (try the Brussels sprouts salad! in LP, and also outdoors at Lisa G's. Highly recommend both. Also recommend the Mount Jo hike - tough but short and the views make it all worthwhile! The Olympic Ski Jump was incredible and we also enjoyed watching the freestyle skiers practice, landing in the water. The 2 1/2 mile stroll around Mirror Lake in Lake Placid provided non-strenuous exercise and an opportunity to view some gorgeous lakeside home.
Already planning our next stay at Riverside!
My sister and I popped up for a 4-day 3-night stay to explore Lake Placid and the surrounding area. WE LOVED THIS COTTAGE!
The space itself is gorgeous, capturing the rustic spirit of the Adirondacks with modern amenities and finishes. We both fell in love with the screened-in porch and spent most of our time lounging outside on the wicker chairs and listening to nature at work around us. Imagine the sounds of a rushing river, wind rustling through the trees, and the occasional song of a white-throated sparrow. A perfect place to come and unwind after hiking and sight-seeing!
Side notes, the space was VERY CLEAN and JoAnn was very hospitable throughout our stay! We are already planning a return trip!
My son and I traveled to the Lake Placid area to explore and do some outdoor activities. JoAnn was friendly and helpful with our reservation, wasn't intrusive but was there if we needed her and the home was BEAUITFUL! We had everything we needed and thoroughly enjoyed our stay: the best part was that the house was so clean which I appreciated! Definitely would recommend this lovely home and we had a great time exploring the Lake Placid area. Thanks JoAnn!
Perfect Cottage & Perfect Location!
The cottage was absolutely amazing! I can't remember how many times my wife said to me "This place is immaculate and everything I need is here." We cooked breakfasts and dinners and everything was perfect. The refrigerator is plenty large enough for a week's worth of food. The bed was a king size and so comfortable. We had the windows open at night and didn't need A/C. We are from FL so this was foreign to us! It was amazing waking up each morning to the sounds of so many different kinds of birds each with their own song. We could also hear the Ausable River from the spacious porch which was so soothing. The river runs right behind the property and a very short walk will get you to the river's edge. The town of Lake Placid is only a few minute drive away so it was nice to have that close accessibility to shops and restaurants yet feel like you were miles away from anywhere in the ADK while in the cottage.
Now to the best part of the experience: the host JoAnn. She was awesome from the beginning and always took the time to explain things to me during booking. Then before our arrival she gave us so many good tips about driving there, restaurants, groceries, etc. She was so friendly and easy going. We really loved talking with her. We also got to me one of her sons who was in town and really enjoyed that. Just a great group of folks, an amazing setting, and perfect cottage. Can't wait to go back!
Cozy, comfortable, quiet
We recently enjoyed a 2-night stay at the cozy Riverside Cottage. JoAnn was very helpful and responsive, there to greet us when we arrived but not at all intrusive. The cottage is near her home, but it feels private, and very quiet. The river is very nearby, but unfortunately it isn't visible from the cottage due to a number of large trees between. That, coupled with the recent rain and high water levels meant that we couldn't really enjoy the river as we'd hoped. Nevertheless, there was plenty to do in nearby Lake Placid, so we kept busy in town, and relaxed on the lovely screened porch when at the cottage. The cottage was immaculate and very thoughtfully furnished, with everything we needed.
While very convenient to the town of Lake Placid, the cottage is off the beaten path enough that driving to it in the dark was a bit of a challenge, so be sure to get oriented in the daylight, or at least be sure your GPS is working!
A Hidden Gem!
My wife and I stayed at the Riverside Cottage which we found to be wonderful. We have been to the Lake Placid area several times and previously stayed at the Mirror Lake Inn - we enjoyed the Riverside Cottage much more than the Inn at a fraction of the cost! The cottage is very clean, comfortable, with all the necessities covered. JoAnn is a great host. We will definitely return on our next trip to the area!
