About the Owner

We're originally from New Mexico, retired and living full-time in Bahia de Kino since 2003. We think of ourselves as "the accidental innkeepers" because we didn't plan this! Apartments built for family and friends just seemed rentable when not occupied, so we started renting around 2006, and here we are with a full house much of the time! We love it! We meet the most wonderful people who often inevitably become friends! Our helpers, Paulino and Lourdes, have been with us for the entire time; and they capably run the show on the ground when we go off traveling, which can be about 50% of the time! We love art, architecture, music (our wide veranda makes a great place for jams!), books, and good conversation. If you like, we'll teach you to play Mexican Train!

Perfect! Awesome! Amazing!

  • 5 of 5

Carolyn and Perry go a step above to make this vacation retreat wonderful. The beach and the views are awesome, but it's also the little (or big) things that made this place extra special. First off, the bed was comfortable!!! Pillows great as well. They had a book of helpful information for you to read about the place and Kino Bay. Extra hand towels and bath towels were available should you need them. Beach toys, beach towels and sunscreen in case you forgot yours or ran out! The outside chairs and loungers were comfortable. They recycle and compost which is not something we always see. Too many numerous things to mention but lots of little things that added up to a quality stay. Perry and Carolyn were available to answer any questions you had and were wonderful hosts. We loved Kino Bay so much we're going back next winter! Stay here - you won't be disappointed.

Wonderful peaceful Adventure

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful experience. The studio apartment upstairs was awesome.

Clean, comfy bed, great linen, so private. The sunsets are the best part.

Carolyn and Perry were so helpful and welcoming. Great people.

Their directions for our first time in Mexico were so helpful and precise.

The town is small, peaceful, small restaurants with wonderful fresh seafood. Mexican people very friendly, helpful.

Our stay was very relaxing, beautiful place.

Amazing space, location, and people!

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I have stayed at Casa Tortuga a number of times since 2008 in both the available spaces. Each time is more wonderful than the last. Carolyn and Perry are just wonderful and they have really taken great care to make sure their guests have the best possible stay. The space itself is just lovely and the location is indescribably beautiful.

Regardless of whether you want an activity filled stay, a relax-only vacation, or something in between, there are options for you and I cannot recommend Casa Tortuga more highly.

two water junkies found a gem!!

  • 5 of 5

My old lady and I are big ocean junkies and love everything there is to do. I booked this wonderful beauty, not knowing what to expect. When we arrived we were taken away by the beauty of the entire compound. It was big enough for us to lounge around like a king and queen for two days. The photos dont do it justice but you are about 50 feet from the water!! the have a gorgeous back patio area ( you also have your own private patio) and one of the best things is that they have a room filled with kayaks and noodles and snorkels and anything you can imagine. we have all of our own gear but for someone who wants to try it out, its perfect. I cannot wait to come back for my birthday this year!!

girls getaway

  • 5 of 5

My friend Liz and I had a wonderful, relaxing two days away from the hectic life style in AZ. Not being a beach person this has changed my mind and just reinforced Liz's love of the ocean and its beauty. Perry and Carolyn made us feel like they have known us forever. Could not have asked for more perfect accomadations and amenities. El Pargo Rojo restaurante was super and prices great. Casa Blanca was good for breakfast also. Took bus into Old Kino and had great day there with the locals. Found some interesting things, i.e. shells, sea life, on the beach as well as a varity of birds, even a crane fishing in the surf at midnight. Would love to return another day maybe in the winter. Highly recommend this paridise to all. AJ and Liz

Casa Tortuga

  • 5 of 5

Words cannot fully describe the location, setting, or beauty of the area of Kino Bay. The accomodations were superb, and Carolyn and Perry are the most friendly hosts! I will return again for sure, and 1-week is not enough time! Thank you for such a comfortable place to lie my head.

Highly recommend this place to others, many things to do, or just sit in the sun on the patio or beach and enjoy. Local people are all very friendly, good food, stores have everything you need. A car may be nice for traveling to Kino Viejo, otherwise walking, biking will get you around Kino Nuevo. We felt very safe here, and enjoyed the experience.

From the Owner

Because it fell in our laps and begged to be ours. We actually had intended to buy an ocean going sailboat to do serious blue water cruising, but... Had been visiting Kino for many years, and just as retirement was rolling around, this place became available. We fell for it. It was in pretty bad shape, so we totally transformed everything (with Perry's architecture design expertise and great local builders), doing all the finishing work ourselves. A real labor of love!

Beach walking, shell gathering, swimming, hiking, kayaking, snorkeling, general rest and relaxation!

We are on site, as this apartment is attached to our permanent home; so we are available to answer

questions, help you learn about the community, and address any particular needs you might have.

Kino is a very quiet, low-key place. One should not expect to find discos, bars, or glitzy shops.

There is plenty of opportunity to purchase good craft items at shops in the fishing village of Old

Kino and from vendors along the beach and main street. Seri Indians come by frequently with their

collector-quality, fine baskets, stone carvings, and shell/bead/bone/seed necklaces. They love to

trade (reduce their prices) for good quality clothing, toys, and household items; so consider

cleaning out your closet before you come!

There are three Automatic Teller Machines in Kino where you can get cash at a good exchange rate.

  • This studio is very private and has the most stunning view over the Sea of Cortez, out to Pelican Island and the sweep of Bahía de Kino's 7-mile crescent-shaped beach. It is accessed from a side passage/patio on one side of Casa Tortuga, through the locked gate from the off-street parking. A lovely tiled stairway leads up to the apartment. All toys and facilities are easily accessible, and the gated areas provide excellent security. Owners/managers live in the main house on the ground floor. They are there to answer questions, protect your privacy, take care of your needs, and make sure you enjoy your stay.
