I've lived in Santa Monica for 35+ years. I helped found Heal the Bay, served on the city Women's Commission, and fundraised for an organization that helps homeless and low income families. I now write a column for a local newspaper.
I'd love to share my home to give you the most memorable Santa Monica experience!
Kelly Hayes-Raitt purchased this studio in 2001
My Casita is a comfy "unfussy" studio -- great for couples and folks who just want to relax in their own place.
Location is great!
I love the light and ocean breezes!
To start off, my flight came in at 9am and check in wasn't until a bit later but I was offered arrangements to drop my luggage off so I didn't have to lug it around which was great. The Casita was comfortable and quite cozy. I will say that coming from Texas we automatically thought there would be an AC unit for the room but there wasn't. The property manager was wonderful for bringing us an extra fan and turns out that was all we needed especially at night, it felt wonderful. The closed in property offers you privacy from the street. You do share the property as described with other people who may be staying in the other rooms, however, the guest behind us were extremely friendly and we had a nice little conversation so don't be shy. We were able to walk to the grocery store, different places for lunch and dinner, and a nail salon. We were only blocks away from the Pier, beach, and Mall. Charley! I must include something about him. He definitely makes himself at home and is extremely friendly and likes to cuddle. The owner is very helpful and makes wonderful suggestions. This was my 1st time to California/Santa Monica and I cannot wait to return and to stay at the Casita again.
The Casita was wonderful, exactly what we were looking for! Walking distance to the beach (10-15 minutes), shops and restaurants on Main, a quality grocery store, and generally convenient to anything you'd need during a typical stay. The place itself is great too, perfect for a single or couple: comfy bed, gets warm but fans do their job well, plenty of closet space, functional kitchen, laundry access, everything you could need really. Owner is very responsive and helpful even halfway across the globe. And Charley is the best! Really couldn't have asked for anything more.
The one tiny warning is that the ceiling fan over the bed is low enough to catch a stray hand (when putting on a shirt or something), so pay attention!
This is a lovely space that's ideally located within walking distance of Main Street, with food and shops available. Charley the cat is a total sweetheart!
Beware there is no air conditioning so my stay was extremely uncomfortable with 90 degree heat. I was told a fan would be brought over but the caretaker didn't bring one until I asked for the third time that being 24 hours later. The water in the shower doesn't mix so I had either scalding or cold water. Considering I couldn't take a proper shower or sit in my room due to the heat I had to leave early to go to another hotel so I could get ready for work. Owner responded she would call but never did. Nor did she offer any compensation for an unusable room. Stay elsewhere.
If you are looking for a nice, affordable and quiet retreat in the luxurious Santa Monica beach town; look no further.
This property has a big comfy queen sized bed. Kitchen and bathroom are clean.
The quiet and lush garden is perfect to relaxed with a cold drink in the evening. Or throw another shrimp on the available BBQ. You may also see the occasional hummingbirds looking for nectar.
Walking to the beautiful beach takes less than 10 minutes and bus stops with good connections to downtown Santa Monica, Venice, LAX, Downtown LA and Hollywood are around the corner. If you travel on a budget, the local busses cost $1 per trip and Metro busses $1,75.
And the supermarket across the street from the bus stops is also very convenient.
So, the Cosy Casita is a quiet retreat to relax an explore the whole LA area.
As the Casita is not too big, don't take too many big suitcases with you. The neighbouring bungalow is bigger.
I would surely comeback again and recommend it to others. It is perfect for couples.
Comfy, quaint, close to everything, felt like home... we will definitely stay here again if given the chance.
