Big Family Vacation
About the Owner
Why Diane Peterson chose Swanton
We love the ruralness of the DCL area and just sitting by the lake and enjoying the quiet. Six acres provides a good bit of privacy, but we also like the restaurants and activities a resort area provides. We have a large family and a larger extended family, it is nice to accommodate our family comfortably. When we purchased the house we knew it would be a rewarding and challenging project to convert it from a commercial property to a home. We plan and do most of the improvements ourselves and it has been a great experience. There is still much to be done and every year our returning guests find a new project finished.
What makes this house unique
The Lodge is the only handicapped facility on the lake. It has many amenities inside the house to accommodate elderly or handicapped family members as well as a gently sloping asphalt path to the lake that is easily navigated and wheelchair friendly.

Perfect location, Beautiful home!
When driving down the lane to your home, we had no idea what to expect. WOW are the words that come to mind when we walked into your home. Your home is beautiful, in a perfect location with beautiful views, and was the best we could ask for in the layout for our group of elderly sisters. The layout allowed for all of us to be together for socializing, games, puzzles and dinners while it also allowed for some privacy when desired. The hot tub was a first for many of our party and was a big hit! Thank you so much for opening your home to us! We will definitely be back
Big Family Vacation
This house was perfect for our needs. We had 18 people and all ranging from 2 years old to grandparents. We loved that the house was all one level so no stairs for the little (or old ones) to traverse! The living room was our favorite place to hang out, besides the hot tub. It had big comfy couches and two tables - plenty of space for puzzles and kid crafts! The dining room was large enough to seat almost everyone and having two stoves in the kitchen was perfect. Most of all the owners were very nice, easy to deal with and very responsive. Great vacation - thanks!
Had a wonderful reunion with friends from our childhood. Six families all with children. The house and location were absoluey perfect. The kitchen was perfect and the dinning room more than surpassed our needs.
We had such a good time that we are planning on making this an annual event at the lodge.
The perfect family gathering spot!
We have rented this home four summers in a row for a large family gathering and plan to continue doing so! It's location on the lake is perfect and we love the private dock. We have rented boats (pontoon and speed) each year and the kids have a blast (the adults, too!). The layout of the house is awesome and works really well for large groups. It's especially nice for us because one member of our family is in a wheelchair and it accommodated her beautifully. We could wheel her right from the house unto the pontoon boat! The owners are wonderful and very responsive. I would definitely recommend this house!
A FAMILY REUNION TO REMEMBER
The Lodge at Sawmill Hollow was absolutely perfect for our family reunion. We needed comfortable accommodations for 18 family members, ages 2 to 80. The Lodge was beautiful with a delightful lakefront area. It was clean and well maintained. You could tell that a lot of love and labor had gone into recent upgrades. I especially appreciated the gourmet kitchen where our various cooks prepared some amazing meals.
There was plenty of room for us to dine together, inside or out, play games, shoot some pool, or watch a movie, as well as spots for smaller groups. The beds were comfortable. And what a joy to be on the water, so convenient for a swim or boating.
While there was plenty to keep us occupied without leaving the property, we did enjoy some hiking in nearby parks, a tour of Falling Waters, river rafting on the Youghiogheny River and a super 80th birthday dinner at a nearby restaurant.
The owner was so helpful in providing suggestions. I would highly recommend this property to anyone.
Perfect extended family vacation spot!
Our family of 14 ranged in age from 6 weeks to 82. We have stayed at Deep Creek for over 30 years, and love this spot more than any other. It is beautiful, private and comfortable. We are a waterskiing family, and love that we can ski right from our dock and have the smooth water of the cove. The hot tub and kayak gave us quiet moments together as well. We will be back!

The lake area is beautiful and peaceful this time of year as the summer winds down. The fishing can also be fantastic this time of year as the fish stock up on forage for the approaching winter.
Autumn Glory Festival is a most anticipated event at Deep Creek for Fall visitors. The annual Autumn Glory Festival is held in mid-October in nearby Oakland, Maryland.
