A beautiful setting backing right onto the canal with a view second to none! The cottage was a perfect size for the two of us (and our dog). We spent a good part of each day watching the wildlife in and around the canal, including turtles, stingrays, an otter, white ibises and a rather tame great blue heron named Big Bird. The canoe, kayak and paddle boat were great for exploring the nearby waterways that connect to the canal. Because of the unseasonably warm weather, the manatees had already left the area for the cooler waters of the Gulf, but that was only a minor disappointment given how great our stay was in every other way. Thanks Dennis and Debra for a wonderful time... we look forward to returning next year!

Perfect Stay in Paradise!!

  • 5 of 5

I cannot say enough good things about our stay at this beautiful cottage! From the moment we arrived, Dennis and Debra made sure we had everything we needed. They live next door, but we didn’t hear or see them. We had complete privacy, but it was comforting to know they were there if we needed anything. The cottage is so lovely, filled with antiques and quaint decor. It had everything we needed. Every morning, we would walk out the patio door and in just a few steps, we were sitting by the crystal clear water. My husband and son caught fish. We used the kayaks and canoe to paddle to the small lake where we saw manatees and stingrays, and they caught small bass and bream! The local owl hooted at us daily! The fenced-in yard kept our two dogs safely enclosed. There are lots of thrift shops in the area, and the shrimp at The Freezer (local restaurant that our hosts recommended) was absolutely amazing!! We cannot wait to stay there again! Thank you Debra and Dennis for sharing your little piece of paradise with us! 😊?

Small Piece of Paradise

  • 5 of 5

My girlfriend and I stayed in the cottage the week shown: It was a wonderful stay filled with many adventures. We arrived at a small piece of paradise nestled among many trees off US19. The owners had left it nice and cozy, which made us feel immediately welcomed.

First and foremost, they have the cottage neatly decorated inside and out, and its close enough to anything you could ever need. The water outback was clear and you could see lots of fish as the cottage sits on a corner lot so the river is on both sides. The water makes the stay for sure as you will find yourself on it even when cooler out. The back deck is my favorite spot, just sitting and relaxing watching the wildlife. On the third night, while sitting there, I found myself staring down a juvenile black bear directly across the river. Maybe 20 yards. The bear had simply come out of the extensive woods to drink. It was a rare and amazing experience as we were very close yet safe enough to not worry about him/her being hungry. It was simply amazing. SO much wildlife in the area, from the neighbors on the rivers Emus and ducks, to so many Manatees at all the local springs. We were able to take a swim with about thirty off a boat we chartered to the Three Sisters Springs. Its the time of year when you can swim with many at the spring heads, BUT make sure you bring some cocoa, even with the charters wetsuits, its cold. Yet another amazing experience. The two major state parks are close so make sure you have a couple days to explore each.

As far as the property goes, the outside was spacious and private even with owners home nearby. They never bothered us but we plan on returning to meet them next time as they were wonderful to speak with and we never had a problem. If we had, they for sure would have resolved I'm sure of that. The interior has everything you could think of, just bring your food and drinks. The grill worked well but we ended up eating out as the food locally was pretty good and plenty. I can't say enough good things about the Cottage and surrounding, we will be returning we hope very soon.
