About Cynthia M. Collins

A descendant of Irish immigrants who farmed this property in the 19th and 20th centuries. Thomas Henry Collins of Galway married Margaret O'Toole of Tipperary started the current clan here ...when the farm came back to the family in 2006, the circle was complete. We open the Collins Homestead so that others may come and enjoy the place they filled over a hundred years ago.

Cynthia M. Collins purchased this house in 2006

Why Cynthia M. Collins chose Clayville

The Collins Homestead grounds reflect the Irish farmers who labored here in the

1850s to 1956....rolling fields of green and fences made of stone....a tree memorial

garden honoring our greatest generation; we also can offer special rates if you wish to add our newly renovated Barn or Riley's Deck off the Barn to set the stage for any family gathering under the stars...

What makes this house unique

The Collins Homestead offers a glimpse of how Irish immigrants brought their love of the land to the new country..building the same walls of stone and fields of

green they left behind....the farmhouse was built in the 1840s and the original wood

work inside is from the native ash trees on the property...the back acreage offers spectacular views of the large hills soaring above the flats....autumn finds an explosion of color and calm; a clear cold night lets one see the Milky Way splashed across the endless night sky....Spring brings Nature's first green as gold and brings the blossoms of a prayer garden with memorial trees planted in honor of family who have flown ahead to Angel stands guard over our tree memorial and offers peace and quiet within which to contemplate and pray, if one wishes...

Lovely Family Thanksgiving

  • 4 of 5

This is a lovely property, with a great variety of social spaces and rooms. It's very well-equipped and made for a great family event. The kitchen is great and the outdoor space (and both grill and pizza oven help a lot with cooking for a large group). It's relatively wheelchair accessible, although there's no bedroom downstairs and the downstairs bathroom might be a bit tricky depending on mobility levels. We had a great time--thanks!

Family fun location

  • 5 of 5

We had 2 families stay together at this house for 3 nights in the month of July. There were lots of activities for the kids- board games, outdoor play structure, giant outdoor chess board to name a few. It was very kid friendly.

The location is beautiful and we were able to take some great family photos while we were there. The house is easy to find. It is an older house, but that is what gives it unique charm. It seems like they thought of everything to keep us comfortable. We were all pleased with the house and property.

We went to the Herkimer Diamond Mines for a day. It was approximately a 45 minute drive from there. There is a nice grocery store within 15 minutes, gas close by and we had pizza delivered one night.

If I ever come back to that part of the country again, I would definitely stay there again.

Thanks for the great place to stay!

Wonderful Experience

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed at the homestead with friends in a wedding party for 3 days. We absolutely loved the location and the house was beautifully furnished. We greatly enjoyed sitting out on the lawn under a cool tree reading a book. The home was everything we could have asked for and would recommend others to stay there as well.

Our stay on Thanksgiving 2011

  • 5 of 5

I wish to note that we have since gotten our security deposit, and when logged on to the site to ammend our review we saw the owners response. We are so very sorry you were ill and unable to handle your affairs. We hope your feeling better!

We really did love the house and the location and we would love to rent it again.

Our Stay for Thanksgiving

  • 3 of 5

We had a lovely time, with only one draw back. The home was clean, had pantry items. A lovely fireplace that offers as a game room. We celebrated Thanksgiving in this home and had a blast. The grounds we well manicured and the location offers lots of outdoor activities. The draw back......we have yet to get our security deposit. We left the home in the condition we found it, we have not heard anything from the owner, though we have emailed them several times. While the amount of the deposit was not astronomical, it is the principle. If not for this mishap I would give this property an excellent rating. I know that we will rethink this site in the future.

Owner's Response: Unfortunately, the owner was ill for a good part of December and & beginning of January and could not attend to basic business.... sincere apologies for the delay...we agree to refund security deposits within 30 days of departure and try very hard to meet that time frame and usually do with few exceptions....
