About Cynthia M. Collins
A descendant of Irish immigrants who farmed this property in the 19th and 20th centuries. Thomas Henry Collins of Galway married Margaret O'Toole of Tipperary started the current clan here ...when the farm came back to the family in 2006, the circle was complete. We open the Collins Homestead so that others may come and enjoy the place they filled over a hundred years ago.

Why Cynthia M. Collins chose Clayville
The Collins Homestead grounds reflect the Irish farmers who labored here in the 1850s to 1956....rolling fields of green and fences made of stone....a tree memorial garden honoring our greatest generation;
What makes this Farmhouse unique
The Collins Homestead offers a glimpse of how Irish immigrants brought their love of the land to the new country..building the same walls of stone and fields of green they left behind....the farmhouse was built in the 1840s and the original wood work inside is from the native ash trees on the property...the back acreage offers spectacular views of the large hills soaring above the flats....autumn finds an explosion of color and calm; a clear cold night lets one see the Milky Way splashed across the endless night sky....Spring brings Nature's first green as gold and brings the blossoms of a prayer garden with memorial trees planted in honor of family who have flown ahead to Heaven....an Angel stands guard over our tree memorial and offers peace and quiet within which to contemplate and pray, if one wishes...

Beautiful and family friendly
We loved this property. The house was actually bigger than expected and was in great condition. There was plenty of room for the 9 of us. It was beautiful and there was plenty to do. The kids loved the playground and the giant chess outside and the board games inside.
The owner was great. She always responded quickly and was very helpful. I asked about locations where we could rent something and she went out of her way to find an answer for me.
The ad said there was A/C in the bedrooms and not only did every bedroom have an A/C unit but so did the kitchen and living room. I'm normally always hit but the house was a very comfortable temperature even without the A/C units on.
We really enjoyed our stay and would absolutely stay there again.
We traveled to upstate New York for a graduation and my adult children stayed with us at the Collins homestead we had a great time everything you needed was there beautiful walk on the property we had privacy and had room to have family spend the evening with us enjoying family time we had so much space it was like being at home.
Having other families enjoy The COLLINS Homestead as we do thrills us to no end - thank you!
Relaxing property, with a great playground for kids and wide open spaces
Great place when traveling with the family and the kids loved it.
The house was great. The kitchen was well stocked with everything you need to cook. Plenty of linens and towels. The house is very large and plenty of spaces to hang out to read or watch TV. The kids loved exploring the property and watching the frogs.
The only negative was the shower on the main floor did not drain properly. Otherwise everything else was great!
Lovely Family Thanksgiving
This is a lovely property, with a great variety of social spaces and rooms. It's very well-equipped and made for a great family event. The kitchen is great and the outdoor space (and both grill and pizza oven help a lot with cooking for a large group). It's relatively wheelchair accessible, although there's no bedroom downstairs and the downstairs bathroom might be a bit tricky depending on mobility levels. We had a great time--thanks!
Thanks, Josh! The Homestead has hosted lots of family get togethers & we love people enjoying it! Harry’s Barn is also available now for even larger get togethers including wedding receptions!
Family fun location
We had 2 families stay together at this house for 3 nights in the month of July. There were lots of activities for the kids- board games, outdoor play structure, giant outdoor chess board to name a few. It was very kid friendly.
The location is beautiful and we were able to take some great family photos while we were there. The house is easy to find. It is an older house, but that is what gives it unique charm. It seems like they thought of everything to keep us comfortable. We were all pleased with the house and property.
We went to the Herkimer Diamond Mines for a day. It was approximately a 45 minute drive from there. There is a nice grocery store within 15 minutes, gas close by and we had pizza delivered one night.
If I ever come back to that part of the country again, I would definitely stay there again.
Thanks for the great place to stay!
Very happy that we can share our Homestead with other families! Thank you for taking the time to write this appreciated review! We had a rough year with the fireplace fire but the house is repaired and improved!
