Cabin, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Baths, 6 Sleeps
Wake to the sound of water lapping against the docks. Watch the ducks parade by your deck every morning and evening. Hear the loons call and see the herons float by. The fish jump as you enjoy the sunset. Rent a boathouse right on the water on the East Shore of Bonaparte, a crystal clear lake on the western edge of the Adirondacks. (Named after Joseph Bonaparte, brother of Napoleon and once King of Spain who fled to America and had a refuge right on the lake.)
Two boathouses, side by side, offer comfortable living quarters over the water. (Look for "Blue Heron Boathouse Cabins - Waterloo" on this site to see the other one.) With fully equipped kitchens and modern baths, you can enjoy the comforts of home while you have easy access to a sandy swimming area, to a canoe for exploring the lake, and a family recreation area lighted at night. With picnic tables, swings, a sand box, playhouse, horseshoe pit and fire ring, there is something for all ages.
These are seasonal cottages. We rent them from May 15 - October 31.
Our family loves the boathouses. We go every year.

Our family loves the boathouses. We go every year.
I love how there is something for everyone to do. My daughter loves reading & sleeping in the loft and playing with the neighbor's cat. My husband loves sunning on the deck, fishing and biking, and I love swimming out to the little island for exercise. We love eating out on the deck too. It's all so relaxing! And they have cell reception too, even out in the woods like that. We go back every year in August and certainly would recommend it to others.
The description of the rental property was accurate. There was plenty of room for family of four. In addition, there was a loft with 2 beds. The house was clean and well kept. The view from the back deck was awesome. A very relaxing place.

Lake Bonaparte is rich with deep water Brown Lake Trout, Large Mouth Bass, Great Northern Pike, Perch, Blue Gills, and Bull Heads. The lake is great for sail boats, canoes and kayaks, power boats & jet skis, water skiing, tubing, etc. Many inlets and shoals. It has a 25 mile shoreline with all the inlets. See otters, ducks, blue herons, loons, deer (I saw one swimming in the lake once!) Lake Bonaparte is a wildlife paradise, a vibrant living lake on a limestone bed, untouched by acid rain or pollution. Come check it out!

If the reservation is cancelled at any time after May 1, we will make every effort to rent the boathouse for the formerly reserved period to another guest. If we are successful in renting the boathouse to another guest, the deposit or full rate paid will be refunded in full within 14 days of that successful re-booking of the boathouse, by check or internet payment via PayPal (no fee to the cancelling guest). If we are not successful in finding another guest for that time slot, the deposit or paid reservation fee is retained.
If the boathouse which has been reserved by a prospective guest for a specific time period is unavailable to that guest by reason of storm, fire, wind or any other kind of damage; or failure of the local electrical service, well water supply, plumbing or a major appliance (range, refrigerator, water heater), such that comfortable enjoyment of the premises is not possible for that period, the pro-rated rate for the part of the period the boathouse was reserved and is unavailable for the guest’s use will be refunded. The rate for rainy days is not refundable.

- Each boathouse has an over-the-water deck or porch; sleeps six; has an eat-in kitchen equipped with blender, coffee maker, microwave, and all dishes & pots & pans; a bath with shower; and is stocked with books, puzzles and games, a TV and DVD/CD/VCR player. The nearby village of Harrisville has a grocery, farm market, restaurants, and a library. Carthage to the west has a laundromat. Each boathouse has its own boat slip and we have caught bass right off the decks, along with perch, blue gills and bullheads. Camping has never been easier, more comfortable or more fun.
