Our upscale Highlands NC vacation rental cabin/home is loaded with mountain warmth and comfort on three beautiful levels of living. Each room is decorated with a collection of art from regional artists, antiques from across the mid-Atlantic and comfortable top market furnishings. We are right on a small lake with a 40 foot dock, four kayaks and perfect seating for conversation, reading or watching the sunset. There is the two story stone wood burning fireplace. Enjoy the gourmet kitchen with all the trimmings, adjoining the main level family room, dining room and screened porch. The first level also includes a one car garage, laundry room and mudroom with an outside "primitive" h/c shower. No bedroom on the first level. On the second level there is one king with master bath and one full bedroom with its own private shower and connecting half bath. The third, and top level, has one king and one queen bedrooms, also each with private baths. Sleeps 8 in the four bedrooms plus can accomodate 2 more in second level great room - daybed with twin trundle. This is a FAMILY FRIENDLY NC CABIN. We will even discuss the possibility of one dog! PET FRIENDLY. Our home is filled with treasures of art and antiques found within the mid-Atlantic region. The yard is a sanctuary of North Carolina plant species as well as landscaping that takes well to this temperate rainforest environment. Kayaking off our dock is such a pleasure in the afternoon and coffee in the morning on the dock is a peace filled experience with the birds singing and ducks passing by. There is even a long alley with a game space for Italian lawn bowling and Bocce. A croquet set was just added as well. Our only cautions are there is no swimming in the lake and there are one or two flights of stairs to the bedrooms which some seniors find difficult.
Large home on the lake in Cold Springs with 4 bedrooms, 4 baths plus 1/2.

Loved the property , would stay again
We loved this property, we had 8 people and it was large enough for everyone.kitchen was equipped very well, property is beautiful. Owner is lovely to work with.
A Great Weekend with Life Long Friends
Excellent property. A beautiful and welcoming home. Roomy and filled with comfortable furnishings and a beautiful lakeside view.
The only things we regretted were that all bedrooms were on upper floors and the upper deck/porch fireplace didn’t work.
It is a beautiful and welcoming property in a great location between Cashiers and Highlands.
What a great place to escape to the Mountains! Our second stay was as perfect as the first. Well appointed and comfortable, wonderful porches on two floors, comfortable beds. We enjoyed hikes out past the stables and up the adjoining mountain as well as Chinquapin Mt., Whiteside Mt. and Panthertown Valley. Very good meals at Canyon Kitchen and Verandah as well as takeout pizza from the place next to Mountain Fresh. And cooking at the house was a breeze with the well equipped kitchen.
Great location. Comfortable home.
Pros - large, comfortable home - Owner's home that is rented so feels like that. Kayaking, and quick drive to Highlands or Cashiers. High quality beds and furniture.
Cons - outdoor fireplace does not work, indoor fireplace is a bit dangerous with volume of gas, low screen. Check out list is extensive - remove bed linens, take trash to recycling center, clean/put away dishes, wash towels/blankets, take off shoes, out by 10 AM so no opportunity to eat breakfast and clean up all that is required.
We're glad that this guest enjoyed our home and we anticipate that you will too!
I agree that it's quite annoying when the outdoor gas fireplace doesn't work, but we do tell our guests that once the weather turns chilly, it may not work at all. I confess to being surprised about the dangerous volume of gas in the indoor fireplace jet. Years ago, we removed the starter key from the fireplace exactly for that reason! We actually arrived this week for our own vacation here and sure enough, there was a starter key in place. Yikes. An enterprising guest paid a visit to the hardware store! That key is now gone and I will advise the cleaning service to remove one in the future if it occurs again. An old fashioned fire is the way to go. We've been renting our home here in Highlands for about ten years with many repeat renters to this day. We've always believed that giving full and careful instructions and tips on how to use our home is the helpful approach and until this week, no one has complained. I feel that our renter must not understand that a 10:00 am checkout is the normal check out time in most areas, especially in a resort town. We want our cleaning crews to make our homes beautiful for our guests! Speaking from much experience, I agree that check out morning is difficult and taxing and if you hold everything on the check list to the last hour then you are in big trouble! Carefully explaining to guests how to find the trash transit stations and the fastest routes out off town ought to be a bonus. And, as we always do when we check out of our own home, go straight into town and have the fab coffee at Buck's or just down the street Mountain Fresh has amazing breakfasts to get you going for your journey home.
Wonderful summer getaway
We stayed at this lovely home for 6 weeks. The house was equipped with everything you could want and then some. We had a very relaxing and peaceful time with family. We would definitely rent this house again if our travels brings us back to The Highlands.
We enjoyed our stay very much. House is very comfortable. Kitchen is very well equipped. Kids loved the horses and we all enjoyed the kayaks. Thank you for sharing your home with us.
Highlands/Cashiers area abounds with beauty and activities.
Outdoor Recreation like hiking, whitewater rafting and tubing, fishing, gem mining, viewing of major waterfalls in area.
Indoor activities are upscale shopping, casual and gourmet dining, art galleries and antiquing. Music and Performance Arts!
Beautifully maintained tennis courts available in our development and kayaking in our lovely lake right off our private dock! Many golf courses nearby.
NO SWIMMING IN LAKE. NO SWIMMING IN LAKE. In nearby Cashers, the large Lake Glenville has boating, fishing, skiing, swimming, tubing capability. Beautiful waterfalls and a half day on the lake with family and friends is one of our favorite activities.
