Connie & Neil live in adjacent home on the property, and are usually around to assist you or answer questions.

Charming 3 bedroom/2 bath year round house. Originally built in 1900 as home to the family that farmed the adjacent land. The house is completely updated, and sits on 2 acres, with 150 feet of wooded shoreline on the south side of Lake Minnewaska. This is much more than a cabin, inside and out. Washer and dryer are now available.

With prior written permission, friendly pets are welcome. There will be an additional cleaning fee. Smoking outside only please.

Great for fall pheasant and waterfowl hunting, country getaway retreats, winter ice fishing and snowmobiling. Rates vary by season, but we believe they are always affordable, even for a family on a budget.

Private boat dock with boat bumpers. Weekly slip rental available at the marina next to Hobo Park in Starbuck.

Call for address, directions or any other questions.

Lake Minnewaska, at 7,110 acres is the 13th largest lake in Minnesota. Excellent for fishing, boating, swimming, etc. We are located on the south side of the lake, approximately 2 1/2 hours northwest of the Twin Cities, 25 miles south of Alexandria. You will have use of the dock, swim raft and paddle boat. There is a large deck, two fire pits and a charcoal grill. Games and movies are available for kids and adults alike. We have a fishing boat and bicycles available for rent. Something fun for all ages.

We have at great time again

  • 4 of 5

We just got home and had a good time at Twin Spruce, We met the great neighbor Bruce next door and had fun With both his Coco Lab. and Neil's Ziggy. It was really windy every day but one, but we still had fun. The only problem I can see in real hot weather the upstairs bedrooms could get warm.

Great place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week here and it was great. Neal and Connie were very accommodating. We had three boats and had plenty of room to park and convenient access to electric outlets for charging. I would recommend for anyone.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the review. We like to hear that what we have to offer here works well for groups like yours. Connie and I enjoyed meeting and hosting you. I think Ziggy (our family dog and greeter) is missing you.

Nice location, accommodating owners, needs maintenance

  • 2 of 5

We rented this home for 2 weeks, but only stayed 8 days. Neil and Connie are accommodating, but you have to ask for what you need. They are in an attached home on the property, not next door. The space is nice, but needs repair. It sleeps 12, but had only 5 dinner plates. There is one A/C vent for all of upstairs and the overhead fans are very noisy. The best place is the outside deck - however, the A/C unit for the house is right next to the deck and it is noisy. Neil bought a window fan and there is a box fan for upstairs - both noisy and didn't cool all that much. Some of the light fixtures look like they had not been cleaned for a long time and some outlets and lamps did not work. it was only when we asked about the paddleboat that Neil dumped the several inches of rain water out of the boat and it became available. This would be a nice place to spend a week, but needs maintenance and upkeep.

Owner's Response: While we are in a beautiful location and offer a great value for your vacation dollars, we understand that our house is not perfect, and not for everyone. That said, we want everyone who stays here to be happy with their decision. The maintenance issues have all been addressed. This guest told me the motor was bad on a ceiling fan, so I bought a new one. It turned out to be nothing more than a loose set screw on the light fixture. The A/C compressor was noisy, so we had it inspected. There was an issue with the compressor, and a new unit will be installed this week which will be much quieter

Week-long vacation

  • 4 of 5

Hi all. Just returned home from 9 days in Minnesota, 7 of which were spent at Twin Spruce Vacation. Some helpful info: Kitchen is very well-equipped (best of all vacation rentals I've been to). Air condition works well downstairs, there isn't a/c in the room that has the best lake view so it was very uncomfortable sleeping when it was hot. The owners home is an add-on to this house (located in front of house nearest to the lake) which is not what we were expecting, as the description makes it sound like a stand-alone home. We had family visiting one of the weekends and were grateful that owners were gone that weekend or we wouldn't have felt as free to take over the yard for grilling or lawn games. Lake is huge! Few weeds was a bonus but had to get water shoes to navigate the large rocks in the shallow water.

Comfy cabin on beautiful lake

  • 5 of 5

Really comfortable cabin

3 bedrooms upstairs - nice beds, great linens, ceiling fans in 2 of the rooms

Central air - we stayed when it was 90-95 outside & the AC was a blessed thing!

Nice kitchen - well-stocked, spacious, handy

Good tv for late night watching - welcome surprise!

Nice deck for late afternoon cards, etc.

Good firepit

Convenient location - 5 minutes from Starbuck for gas, groceries, bait

Great lake! In my opinion, one of the best in the state.

Owner's Response: We are happy to hear that the house, location, and lake lived up to your expectations. We have created a place and space that we really like, in the hopes that our guests will enjoy it as much as we do. The place seems to be an especially good fit for families. The nicer sheets and new kitchen utensils can be credited to Connie. I work to keep up the house, yard, fire pit, etc. because the outdoor experience is important to me. We enjoyed meeting you all, and the occasional chats were fun for us. Thank you for taking the time to write such a kind review.

Restaurants on the lake include the Water's Edge, Captains Bar & Grill (fka Torgy's), and the Lakeside, all accessible by boat or car. Several golf courses less than a half hour away. The public beach in Starbuck has lifeguards and gently sloping sand bottom. The Pope County Historical Museum has free admission all summer, and a number of our guests have commented on how much their family enjoyed a visit there.

Community events include Heritage Days and Waterama in July, and Dragon Boat Festival in August. Those are the big events, but there are many events throughout the year, like Lefse Dagen in May, and the Terrace Fiddlers Festival in September.

Taxes and fees are additional

Additional information about rental rates

Pet Fee $75 + Tax
Refundable damage deposit $100

Our weeks run Sunday to Sunday. $400-1200 per week, depending on season and number of guests. Most summer weeks are $1100 per week (plus tax) for up to 6 guests, and run Sunday to Sunday. We can make exceptions to check in days during the off season, or any time when adjacent weeks don't fill up. Additional nights, when available, will be quoted at a nightly rate.

Current Minnesota law prohibits vacation rental owners from advertising or offering to the public, stays of less than a week. Additionally, it does not make business sense for us to rent by the night. Many other rentals charge a cleaning fee of $100 or more, but we just include that in the rate.

  • Service Fee fully refunded on cancellations that qualify for 100% refund.
