Why Steve Danville . chose Mears
I grew up in Oceana County. As soon as we turned 16 and could drive, Silver Lake was the place to go in the Summer. I noted most cottage owners were 40-70+ years old; Not wanting to wait, I bought my cottage asap in 1977 when I was 23. Lots on Silver Lake Water Front were and still are cost prohibitive for me, however on the silver lake channel I could afford water front and have access to Silver Lake via boat.. My kids have fond memories of the summers at this cottage as well and many of their friends. I appreciate my paying guests that pay my property taxes by renting the cottage.
What makes this Cottage unique
The Silver Lake Sand Dunes are one of a kind. More specific to my place, The channel offers the option of taking the boat or canoe to a County park with 2 tables on the channel for a change from the popular Silver Lake. Or keep going West to the dam. Kids or Adults alike will remember the little boat trips for a life time. One family told me the kids spent the whole week in the channel.

Fourth of July Silver Lake
Fourth of July Silver Lake, Steve was very easy to work with the house was in the perfect location, went to the lighthouse every night with the dogs. Went out on the sand dunes several times, hiked on the trail down from the termite bridge. Overall great experience thanks Steve we would come back
Nothing fancy but dry and clean and will definitely come back. It is everything it says it is. Owner responded to questions asked immediately. Great location!

we had a great time wished more shops was open .was told it wasn't peek season
Dune stay at the cottage
Perfect for a few day stay while playing on the dunes.
Great location minutes from town as well as lighthouse. While weather and amount of time on this stay did not allow for us to utilize the boat or canoe, having the option was nice.
Very easy and all you need
Comfortable cottage, nice view, beautiful location, and great price. We enjoyed having the use of the boats. Steve was great to deal with. It was a peaceful getaway spot.
Cottage Suggestions. Take them or Leave them, It's Your Vacation.
Canoe - Included is a Coleman Canoe life jackets, seat cushions and paddles. The canoe works well in the Silver Lake channel and getting to the sand dunes if the pilots of the canoe have some skills.
Go left ( West) from the cottage in the canoe and one can go about 1/2 mile to a small dam.
Row Boat - WAY more stable then the Canoe. This Sea Worthy 14 foot Aluminum Sea Nymph 14R. Unsinkable. . Rowing out the channel may be a challenge when you get close to Silver lake the channel narrows. It depends on the current of that day. Some will walk the boat a few feet into Silver lake then the current stops. The row back is a breeze. Ive been rowing it since the 1970's. Due to some shallow areas, it is best to row the channel and use the motor in Silver Lake.
WATER- One of the facts of the walking area of the Silver Lake beeches at the sand dunes is you cannot drive there and park on the dunes.. It keeps the Dunes more exclusive to boaters.
The Sand dunes are in 3 sections. South is Mac Wood Dune rides. Middle is the public area. Most people get there via boat. The North is for Motor vehicles with off road registration, State Park registration, flags etc to drive there.
If you want to go to Lake Michigan.. there are 2 parking areas at Lake Michigan near the cottage. Just turn Right (West) out of the cottage and follow the asphalt. One is a parking area for the public where the channel meets Lake Michigan the other is at the Light House.
FISHING - Many people fish right in front of the cottage. Most of the fishermen I see on Silver lake are near where this Channel enters Silver Lake. One man recommends between the State Park and the boat rental docks. Also, there is an upper channel to check out.
Silver Lake. Silver Lake is about 2 miles long and 1 mile wide. The deepest part is actually near the dunes about 25 feet deep. There is a severe drop off as the Dunes encroach on the Lake. On the road side of Silver Lake it is relatively shallow for hundreds of feet.
Boat Launches - there are 5. only one at the State Park works for Fiberglass boats. 17' or smaller Aluminum boats or jet ski's may use the others. One is across the street from Mac Wood Dune Rides, One Between the State park and Flordale resort, one near the Boat rental place at the end of the lake and one on the upper channel.
State Land is across the channel from the cottage- You are welcome to hike on the land across the channel from the cottage. If you run into a sandy road you have reached where Mac Wood Dune rides run and pedestrians make the drivers nervous. Please keep a distance from their trails. Hiking is one way to the Dunes.
HIDE AWAY CAMP GROUNDS - Across the street has a coin laundry room, a little store , and PIZZA. Whippy Dip next to Mac Woods has Pizza.
