Great experience

  • 4 of 5

Five friends and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Take 5 for 5 nights. :)

The location was excellent for anyone that wanted to be on the beach in a small group without the crowded feeling of the public access sight just a quarter mile down. We could walk to everything we wanted, included a weekend music charity event at Harry A's and several other guest houses of those we knew staying in the area. Location was tops.

There was nothing about the house itself that was unacceptable. The vibe of the area was very relaxed, sleepy beach getaway and the house reflected that - not top of the line and newest accommodations, but more than adequate and comfortable. Sure, some things could use updating, but we were not expecting brand new everything. The kitchen was more than adequately stocked with cooking ware, dishes and utensils. The provided towels were perfectly adequate for the number of guests. The AC worked as expected, the linens were clean, and the whole place just felt "comfortable." The kitchen color and tile is also waaaaay better than some of the other Flamingo-esque places we saw. IMHO.

Additionally, the booking process was simple and without hassle or surprises. We found Take 5 after the owner of another property we had secured a month earlier changed his mind with the management company and suddenly wanted 7 days rental with a Sunday turn; not at all what we had booked and put a deposit on. I contacted the owner of Take 5 after that other fiasco, got a prompt reply, and very detailed and consistent information through the management company.

Bottom line - loved our time on the island. If you are very high maintenance, maybe this isn't the rental for you. If you want a chill time on the beach with comfortable, clean accommodations right in the heart of the island, I recommend Take 5 highly!

Great Stay

  • 5 of 5

Had an excellent stay, at Take Five. Very clean, close too everything. Walked to the--

restaurants, the store, every morning on the deck what a view, would be great if there was a tall table and high chairs for having breakfast on the deck, but all the same great stay.....

no, no, and no!

  • 2 of 5

I had read the previous 1 star review on this property and called Fickling (the management company) directly before I signed on the dotted line. They stated all issues had been addressed and subsequent renters had uniformly rated this a 5 star experience since that initial review.

I strongly disagree.

The house was built in 1995 and is in a spectacular location. Having said that, the rental experience was unnecessarily unpleasant. The home (one of 20 or so stand alone units that are close enough to pass a Grey Poupon) has been neglected.... regular nails instead of zinc nails, railings that are suspect, interior paint job that is marginal, dings and cracks that a home like this does not deserve etc.

The 4 page rental agreement does outline limitations on the property's hospitality.... one roll of toilet paper per bathroom, one set of towels for each guest, no kleenex, etc and renters are advised to "bring your own". Motel 6 does a better job at making their guest feel welcome. I fault the management company since this is their rental contract. A couple of well invested dollars can make all the difference in a rental experience.

The interior is worn out. Most of the furniture is threadbare and mattresses and pull-out couch are beyond ridiculous.

I spoke to Fickling the first morning of our arrival about these issues and their receptionist sheepishly said that they had tried to get the owners to fix things up a bit. The conversation stopped there.

It really is a shame. A couple of thousand dollars investment into new furniture and a couple of bucks into towels and toilet tissue would have made this a very different review.

ps

dear Fickling

please don't blame these deficiencies on being a pet friendly home.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear that you feel that you had such a negative experience. While we cannot speak on the actions of Fickling Management, we can say that anything that is requested by Fickling in regards to property updates is done to ensure the property is up to standard for renting purposes. While we don’t agree with blaming any fault on being a pet friendly property there is additional wear and tear on pet friendly homes. With that being said, being pet owners ourselves that is not an amenity that we intend to take away from our renters. Furniture, mattresses are replaced on a regular basis. As regards the linens and toilet paper (which are supplied by Fickling) your experience is standard for the rental companies on St. George Island. We hope you enjoy your summer.

Take Five vacation

  • 1 of 5

Loved St George Island however, I would not recommend this property. I would guess the pictures were taken several years ago and do not reflect the current state. This property has gone without regular maintenance. The furniture, rugs are beyond cleaning. Bathrooms are moldy and the floor grout has probably never been cleaned. There is mold on the ceiling in a bedroom. The AC units barely function. Based on feedback from a local merchant as well as the property manager, this is not news to the owner. This property should not be rented as a vacation unit until the basic maintenance is done.

Owner's Response: We appreciate your feedback and are sorry to hear how you feel. As with every guest stay at our property and other properties managed by Fickling Management the entire house is thoroughly cleaned and prepped by professionals for the next guests stay. Additionally, as you can imagine, because we welcome pets, it is challenging to keep the furniture and rugs in pristine condition. While it may not look like new, it is clean as it is done on a regular basis for that reason alone. After consulting with Fickling it was documented that your dissatisfaction was not made known until check out. Had it been brought to our attention or even Fickling's prior to then, alternative accommodations may have been arranged. After an inspection, it was found that the seal on the toilet above was broken causing a small leak affecting the bedroom ceiling. It has since been addressed. Further, the AC units were also inspected and all are functioning as normal. We were disheartened to read your review we wish we would have had the opportunity to address your concerns during your stay.

Great house in perfect location

  • 5 of 5

This beach house is in a great location (unless you want to be secluded!). We were able to walk to the grocery store, restaurants, park, bike rental place, kayak rental place, etc. We didn't drive anywhere the whole week we were there. The house itself is great! Very clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. We had everything we needed in the kitchen to cook and grill outside. The beds were comfortable, too! It all made for a great family vacation!

Location

Activity and Interests

In addition to all beach attractions, it is just 13 miles to the shops and restaurants of Apalachicola. Fresh Shrimp and Oysters are always on the menu. Rentals for bikes for touring the Island or Jet Skis for riding with the Dolphins are available. Or maybe you want no activity at all, enjoy the rockers on the deck looking out at the Gulf.
