Guestbook comments from the owner

My husband and I came here for a baby moon and couldn't have enjoyed it more! Great location. We had a blast walking to great brunch and dinner spots, the La Jolla open air market, shopping, and the cove. It was clean and decorated nicely. They had fresh flowers for us on arrival. Wonderful owners that were very hospitable and helpful. Love La Jolla and this cozy vacation spot!

Loved it despite its quirks

  • 4 of 5

We were very comfortable in the Casita. It is really a great location - we could walk everywhere. Close to grocery store, the beaches, and everything downtown. The noise machine and the fans helped mute traffic noise. Great for a couple.

That being said, the kitchenette isn't even really that. It is a place to make coffee and slice cheese. The refrigerator is dorm-sized - big enough for cream and a few snacks or beverages. The "induction cooktop" is merely a hot plate! While it's not conducive to cooking, there are tons of dishes, pans and enough silverware for a camp. One drawer is filled with butter knives.

There are two beds in the unit - one in a "bedroom," where the kitchenette is, and one in the living room. The bedroom has a door, but also an open doorway. There would be no privacy if other people were there. The living room was comfortable, but again a bit odd because there is a bed in it.

The patio is terrific. It's a great place to hang out, and there is, in fact, a grill out there. There is a heater as well. And a chest freezer in case you need a whole lot of ice.

It would help to have extra sheets in the unit, extra towels, and a designated spot to place dirty linens. We were there for over a week and wanted to change sheets when our daughter came for one night. There are beach towels and even chairs in a closet for guests to use - a nice feature.

We would definitely stay again. Perfect for a couple who don't care about cooking. Seriously, you couldn't even make breakfast in the kitchen unless you cooked it all in one pan.

Owner's Response: Hello Jeff from Buffalo, Great to hear that you were very comfortable in the Casita, loved the location and how central it is to restaurants, beaches, shopping art galleries and nightlife. Just to clear up a few items, the Casita has a kitchenette not a full kitchen, which is clearly explained in the description of the property. The kitchenette has an under counter refrigerator, not a dorm room sized refrigerator, an induction cook top, coffee maker, microwave, blender, toaster and new quartz counters with a new sink. In locations that are desirable, (NYC, Paris, La Jolla) it is important to make the best use of the space. Perhaps the price per square footage is much less expensive in Buffalo. There is a 400 square foot deck with a Viking grill, a table with 4 chairs, for anyone that wishes to cook a full meal. We provide a minimum of 6 bath towels and several beach towels. While we do not provide daily maid service or change your sheets daily we would be happy to supply extra sheets if requested. Usually guest staying for one week or less do not request additional linens. We are always more than happy to provide anything that will make our guests stay as comfortable as possible. Just ask if there is anything you need. Thank you, Eric and Yvonne

Could have been much better

  • 3 of 5

Overall this was an ok place to rent. The location, exterior, patio and living room were nice, and the owners were flexible and responsive which is always appreciated. The traffic noise was definitely a concern, as others have mentioned. But the cramped bedroom + kitchenette and bathroom were by far the most negative aspects. This place could definitely benefit from some updates.

The bathroom - Small, dated and carpeted. The shower head was low, the tub was very slow to drain, and the water was warm at best. Pretty disappointing and a bit gross.

The combined bedroom and kitchenette feel very cramped. If you don't expect to cook or buy many groceries, then this might not be a problem. But if you do, or if you have a child or small group, this would likely be a challenge.

There are many nice places in the area, I'm sure. I would recommend doing some research on all the options and considering spending more elsewhere. I wish I had.

Owner's Response: Hello Melissa L., we are sorry that your stay with your girlfriend was not up to your expectations. It is very important to us to provide a wonderful vacation experience for our guests. Yes, the Casita does have a kitchenette and not a full kitchen, but there is also a Viking Grill on the deck for those that are want to cook a meal at the property. Regarding the hot water, there is a water heater inside the Casita that is used exclusively by the guests at the Casita. Please let us know during your visit if there are any things that will make your stay the most comfortable, we are happy to provide any items or fix anything that will make your visit the most enjoyable. We recently updated the kitchenette with Quartz counters, a new sink and faucet. The bathroom also has been remodeled with Marrakesh floor tiles, new vanity with marble counter top, new sink and faucet and a new shower/ tub. We are committed to providing an exceptional rental experience at a very reasonable rate. Regards, Eric and Yvonne

Love the Casita!~

  • 5 of 5

While this adorable little casita is located on a busy corner, if you are one who enjoys the convenience of walking to the chic downtown of La Jolla, the beach and all that it offers, this is the place for you! You can park your car and not use it again! The traffic noise can be heard, but who cares...you are not in the mountains! Eric & Yvonne are the best...we had a little maintenance request & Eric took care of it immediately! The ambiance of the casita is great. The outdoor patio is a perfect place to enjoy the So Cal Sunshine and a glass of wine after a day of adventure! I highly recommend the Casita...this is our 2nd time there and we will surely return! Thanks Eric & Yvonne!

Special family vacation

  • 2 of 5

Do yourself a favor and rent a hotel room. Rental is very noisy on a busy road with traffic all hours of the night. The heat was unbearable and no AC in the unit made for an extremely uncomfortable stay. Owner completely unreasonable. Location is close to La Jolla Cove, restaurant and shops other than that it is a zero.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to review our property. We are sincerely interested in providing a wonderful vacation experience for our guests and make sure our listing information is accurate. We encourage all prospective guests to match your list of desired amenities with the amenities that we provide. Some guests may not be suitable candidates to rent our vacation rental as it requires a degree of self reliance. This vacation rental allows you to feel like you are living in one of the most exclusive, multi-million dollar residential neighborhoods in the nation as if you are a resident. The property is a few blocks from the coast with cool coastal breezes, on the rare occasion when we have record temperatures we have a ceiling fan and portable fans that will keep you comfortable. If you need amenities that you might find in a hotel such as a swimming pool, elevator, daily maid service and airport shuttle, then maybe this is not the right property for you. We genuinely want our guests to be happy and enjoy their vacation and want guests that understand the value of staying in a vacation rental. Please feel free to contact us should you have any questions about the property. -Eric and Yvonne

In the words of my two year old, "YES PLEASE!"

What an absolutely fabulous place to stay, and have only the regret of not planning a longer vacation! Will most certainly stay here again if they'll have us. Clean and cozy, very well decorated, and a fantastic deck! To all future vacationers, do enjoy, we wish we were there!
