About the Owner
cabin in the woods
Description of the cabin was accurate, but the photos don't do it justice. It is much cozier than it looks. Very clean and warm. We had the greatest meals on the deck in the trees. Nice wrap around deck and partly covered. We hiked the trails with the happy, happy dog. Owner was great and always helpful. I would recommend this place to anyone seeking some peace and quiet, but plenty to do in the area. Must recommend the Screamin' zip line tour. The guys running it are just great and views are neat. Last line is 2,000 feet long with speeds at around 60 miles per hour. Had dinner at the Canyons. Nothing fancy, but good food, NC Speckled Trout and great views of Linville Gorge.
Cabin in the trees
My sister in law and I stayed here for a girls get away on Memorial Day weekend. It was last minute and Patti was very sweet and accommodating. The driveway was a little steep upon arrival but my Maxima made it up just fine so you should be ok. The cabin is in the trees and it's very quite! The cabin was very clean and smelled nice. One thing that was a surprise was the huge and I mean HUGE jacuzzi tub!! That was incredible after a day of sight seeing. There were a few things that were not so good though. The kitchen was not well appointed. There was no soap anywhere in the house. No hand soap. No dish washing soap. The bed was very uncomfortable. The steps had green slim on them so they were slippery. The fire pit area was overgrown and didn't look like it had been used in a while. You have to take your own trash to the dump. Plus pay a cleaning fee. Thought that would be included. Patti took care of it for us but if you were staying for a week that could become a problem with a new car. The table and chairs had a layer of old leaves on them that were on the deck. All in all we had a great time and the drive into the Yonahlossee was one of the prettiest drives I've see in the Blue Ridge. Thank you again Patti for letting us stay.
Me, my husband and our two huskies spent Thanksgiving at the Gray Escape and could not have been happier. We were worried about the space being too small in case we were homebound because of weather, but no worries- the cabin was very spacious and perfect for the 4 of us! Luckily, the weather worked out great for us.
The cabin was very clean and nicely decorated. It was very secluded and the porch was fantastic for unwinding after a long day of hiking. It's also enclosed, so there were no worries about the dogs (who are wanderers) going off somewhere. The kitchen was well appointed and there was plenty of space for supplies (we cooked all our meals at the cabin). Hot water was plentiful as well. There was a heater in the bedroom and a gas fireplace in the living area. The first couple of nights were a little chilly and it took us a while to figure out hte heater, but it worked very well. The cabin is very open and we made use of the fan (provided) to ciruclate hte heated air, which worked quite well.
The location of the cabin cannot be beat. We've rented cabins in the area for several years and this was the first time where we were able to get in a full day's hiking without ever getting in the car! It was WONDERFUL! The parkway is only a couple of miles away and Boone and Blowing Rock are nearby.
Note that the driveway is very steep, but we were able to get up and down without any issues in our Accord. However, 4WD is probably recommended if there is a hint of snow.
The owner was wonderful to work with- she sent us some hiking tips and was very responsive to any questions we had before we left. We are looking forward to returning here soon!
Relax to the Max
My husband and I just spent 2 wonderful nights at this cute and impeccably clean cabin. After two days in the woods, hiking,it was wonderful to be able to just walk to a beautiful hike. The cabin has more than anyone would need, and,in the 2hours I spent sitting on the deck, reading, only one car was heard. We even had a family of deer in the driveway the morning we were leaving. And it was great to have a washer/dryer available.Boone is a short drive, and I highly suggest Coyote Kitchen and the Come back shack. I'd love to come back in the fall. And our Golden loved the stream across the road!
WAY more than we expected!
If you like quiet, comfortable, clean, convenient and owner friendly then this is the perfect place. My wife and I made a last minute decision to get away for the weekend and the owner was accomodating and incredibly helpful. Beautiful hiking by the cabin. It was much more than we anticipated. Will definitely be back.
Perfect mountain getaway!
This cabin is simply amazing! It was just right for a get away. Super clean, secluded and cozy. If you're fortunate enough to be there while it snows...you'll never want to leave. We will definitely be staying here again!
