Clear Creek, Horse back riding a stone throw away

Overview

Property Details

Updated: Jul 20, 2016
House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, 8 Sleeps

Tucked away in the Clear Creek Valley not far from the Blue Ridge Parkway, this hide-away is freshly remodeled, with very pleasant views looking toward Mt Mitchell. Forest Service property surrounds the valley, and this is adjacent the Clear Creek Guest Ranch. Within a couple miles you can fish in the South Toe River, golf at Mt Mitchell Golf Course, or hike to Mt Mitchell, highest peak in the eastern US.

Features brand new appliances and fixtures, granite counters, and hardwood floors.

Sit before the wood-burning fireplace and watch the sun go down over the Black Mountain Range. Or sit out in the yard at the picnic table and enjoy the cool breezes that move up and down the valley as it shifts from night to day, and day to night.

Take a walk down the lane in the evening and meet the outgoing locals as they tend their livestock and fields. Dip your feet into Clear Creek about half mile away. Or a short drive of about 3 miles takes you to the trail head to Roaring Fork Waterfall, or just a half mile drive and you're at Carolina Hemlocks Recreation area with its wonderful summertime swimming hole, or terrific fly-fishing for rainbow trout.

The cabin comes entirely furnished, all you need to do is bring food and drink, maybe your personal bar of soap or your favorite pillow to really make it feel like you've come home -- home to the mountains.

This is truly where "springtime spends the summer".

A wonderful family get-a-away

  • 4 of 5

My family of four along with my sister's family of four had a wonderful stay at Clear Creek. The house was well equipped for cooking and had all of the necessities such as linens, paper products, and daily household supplies. When traveling with eight children 5 and under, the little things matter!

The surrounding area was amazing! The house is in a great location with easy access to some of NC's most beautiful places. We enjoyed daily outdoor adventures and appreciated the peace and quite of Clear Creek in the evenings. We were most certainly were able to relax, which was the primary mission of our get-a-away.

Great place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

My husband, 4-year-old, and I went to the Clear Creek rental property in July to get away for a long weekend and celebrate the 4-year-old's birthday. We have stayed in this area several times and are planning to transfer there within the next year (my husband is a glassblower), but we usually rent another home very close by. Our regular place was already booked, so we chose Clear Creek after seeing it on line.

I would HIGHLY recommend this for families or just a couple that want to get away from it all. The silence was actually deafening and the peace and quiet was just what we needed. The house was perfect and actually is much nicer than the pictures depict. The house was furnished with everything we could possibly need, even when we cooked a big dinner one night when my in-laws came over for a birthday party.

The yard is spacious so our son could run around with the dog all he wanted. We were concerned when we got there because we realized it did not have a.c. and this was July, but leaving the windows open made it perfectly cool with the mountain breezes.

We got to see 9 deer one morning walking up the driveway. We heard a few animals during the night, but never saw what they were. We did hear coyotes one night. The hike off the service road down by the Inn that leads to the water fall (I can't remember the name now) was perfect and the falls were beautiful. We never made it to the Hemlocks to the swimming hole, but we did do some swimming at Granny's Beach (on the road leading to the Arthur Morgan School). We browsed around the lavender farm which is also on the same road as Arthur Morgan School which was beautiful.

For food, I highly recommend the Hilltop Diner in Burnsville for breakfast or ribs for dinner. We got food to go one night in Spruce Pine from Knife and Fork Restaurant, which is delicious. We try to get there at least once every time we are in that area.

Overall, a great stay, but too short! We will definitely rent the Clear Creek home again in the future. David Chandler was very prompt in replying to our inquiries about the vacation rental and the house was in great condition. He also left a book with details about the house and area attractions.

Enjoy!"
